The Crawmerax fight was extremely unbalanced, imo. It’s hard enough that Craw can only be damaged in his crit spots, AND that the minions can only be damaged by one element. But, making 2 out of 3 of the minions strong enough to 1HKO you was too much. Fortunately, I play Lilith, and phasewalking while crouching on the ledge keeps me undetected until my next shot.
Eh, it’s supposed to be hard! But, with practice, it is reliably doable with any character (with no ledge glitching), but is not ever a guaranteed win. Perfect way to have a raid boss IMO.
I hope this comes across as pseudo-inspirational, and not bragging. It took me some time, and many different builds to solo craw, but I managed to do it with all 4 classes, and semi consistently.
If the old forums were up, I would link to my Mordy solo craw guide. These were the main things I did to make it doable.
First and foremost, especially if using a masher to take out Craw’s purple spots, I highly recommend using a ranger COM. Best option is a purple with +4 to predator and the extra crit damage 5th line. This lets Bloodwing be on a 1 second cool down so OFB (w/ explosive element) is always ready to heal. Keep throwing Blood out, and have Bird of Prey maxed out, so you can always have health return by recalling him.
Since I preferred ranger to gunslinger (the extra fire rate made it harder to land shots on Craw with a revolver/masher. I preferred ranger so each shot hit harder), and I didn’t have ammo regen, I tried to mix my 4 guns between revolvers and machine pistols/repeaters. My masher main (2-shot preferred for extra damage) and corrosive option I usually kept as revolvers, and fire and shock as pistols.
For shields, I used a tediore quick health regen with the shortest recharge delay I could find. I eventually got an anshin rose, and it made life easier.
When coming off the lift, I would toss out Bloodwing, run for the right set of pillars, and take down maggots first, then greens, and keep circling the right pillars. I would take shots at Craw when I could, and keep taking down minions until only purples remained. I wasn’t perfect, but I could fairly consistently solo craw with this set up. I know some of this info has been mentioned already, but I hope you find it helpful. Good hunting!
Shock also works very well on Craw. Half a dozen shots with an Orion will take out any of his Crit spots.
me too - tbh who’s to say it’s a ‘glitch’ at all and not a deliberate place where you can actually beat the thing? after all it’s not that easy even then - you still have to hit his critical point on the back - and that means a richochet weapon and also having him stand in the right place…
Or a Nidhogg
Just use a stock combat shotgun and he dies in about 15 seconds or less lol.
If that’s not your thing though, back before I used my current arsenal, there was a ledge you could hide behind off to the far left in which Crawmerax would just sit there and rear up at you constantly and never hit you. Then you could just snipe out his claws and to get rid of his back side, I found it easiest to use Lilith always as you could phasewalk behind him while invisible and then unload on him.
Don’t know if that strategy works anymore though as I used that five years ago now lol.
Again, for all you people reading the title and not the thread: I have managed to kill Crawmerax by now. It’s still really difficult, but a combination of luck and ledge strats can see me through.
Congrats… What’s been your strategy for taking his back crit location if I may ask?
The best method is to get him to run circle around the stone archway.
He’s big and pretty clumsy, so when he turns you can get some shots off onto his back. A masher or barrel5 Shottie works best since it’s a lot of damage and you can afford to miss a few pellets.
As Lilith it easy, just phase across to a hiding spot and use a powerful Sniper or Revolver while he’s facing the wrong way, you can edge put from behind the rock for an easy hit, then as he comes towards you Phasewalk to the other side and repeat.
If you’re being a dirty cheater and using the ledge, you’ll need a ricochette gun (Twister barrel SMG or preferably an Orion) or a Nidhogg.
Both are incredibly finnicky though, getting the air burst rockets to hit him is hard and ricochetting is a pain.
Yeah I use to use the archway myself cause I use to primarily farm craw with my gunslinger before my specter siren I have now. He said he used the ledge and was just wondering how he was taking the back. I know if your in the far corner to the right you can bounce Orion shots off the tall pillar to the left to take it out but he has to be positioned correctly. Legit my success rate was prob around 60 percent solo and the glitch spot is more frustrating IMO with mord than the legit fight.
Usually I kill any maggots or green worms that show up, let craw get my scent, then juke him and pop his back. After that I freakin’ GUN for the ledge spot, hugging the edge , and hope nothing kills me. If I survive to get to the ledge and craw doesn’t spit at me, I can generally get it.
Nice… My friend use to run straight to the glitch spot. Take off everything but his back. Then he would move out of the spot a little to the right and for some reason craw would turn around the other way. He would always just March towards me! Lol
