first… 1000 hours in a few months? who ever has that much time on their hands should probably go work at GBX seeing they know the game better then them by that time…
second…
i played:
TF2 -> 3700 hours… on main account… never got bored with it…
spiral knights -> 1200 hours… had absolutely nothing more to do in the game… (had ALL endgame gear and could solo the hardest dungeon) so i stopped playing because the game died…
BL2 -> 500 hours and not bored with it…
SAO: fatal bullet -> 235 hours… maxed out my gear…
if the game is good, motivitions comes naturaly… all these games i stopped playing but never felt like i had to dig for motivation… that’s still there… (hell, i still play TF2 from time to time but playing more Overwatch atm. spiral knights i could give an other shot as i realy liked the game but lack of new content and original dev team quiting i chose to quit too)
I put my game away and went back to some old favorites and haven’t looked back. Borderlands has been a sh#tshow for a while now. I completely agree that they have been too obsessed with putting out these stupid “limited time events”, when they should’ve made the obvious problems they’re TOP PRIORITY. Instead they keep digging a deeper hole and creating more frustrations with us. Dial it back and lose some of the gimmicks, Get rid of pointless anointments, make sure you polish up the content before releasing it.
I don’t know. By time they have this game tolerable again it might be too late. I’m holding out for other games coming out this year (eg Outriders / Elden Ring) that’ll force this one into the trade-in pile. But as a long time Borderlands fan, I’d rather keep playing this one until those games come out and even keep in my collection for years to come. All depends on how soon Gearbox can pull their heads out of their @$$3$ and give the community / testers what they want.
I felt as you did about a month or so ago. I went back to BL2 and started leveling a Kreig (someone I hadn’t played much of) and started enjoying gaming again. As a solo player, I despise all the fussing and nerfing the GB is forcing on us in BL3 gameplay and NOT FIXING THE BUGS. Last night, I fired up BL3 to see what Mayhem 2.0 is and, IMHO, a mess and it’s not what I want to play. I either turn mayhem off or play on M1. (the legendaries still fall like rain in M1.)
lower levels are to easy but you don’t have to play with the ■■■■■■■■ (modifiers) mayhem 10 is somewhat decent but you’re forced to use modifiers (that for me add little to no enjoyment) and on top of that because they want to scale everything into oblivion botched weapons…
and now we’re allready 2 weeks in and still left with a broken game…
GBX acted like mayhem 2.0 would be the best thing to ever happen to the borderlands franchise… instead it broke the game and devided the community (though most are in the “hate” camp)
A wise man once said: “If you give a developer a leash that’s long enough, it will hang itself.”
The last thing Gearbox would stand for is people calling the game easy. That would be the ultimate insult. Like Marty McFly being called chicken. They were willing to sacrifice the entire game and actually did it too.
As FL4K would put it, it’s all about “the hunt” (for new loot).
If you’re unhappy with having to chase this ever changing goal of equipment and anointments, then maybe this game is not for you… at least for now. Once they stop releasing new content, that might be a good time to come back and give it another go.
No doubt the Guardian Takedown coming this month will introduce new items for people to chase, as will the next DLC, which is probably less than 2 months away (guessing end of June).

I’ll probably take a break as well until things are fixed.
I tried a few things out this weekend to see if it would make a difference in my loot.
First, I farmed for a Sand Hawk and got a pretty good one at M6 level. It’s an ok gun, just as you kill 1 or 2 enemies you’re completely out of ammo so, I’m not exactly sure what its purpose is. You can’t mob with it and bosses are bullet sponges so this gun is a head-scratcher. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Dahl Pitchfork in TPS, this is similar, but it just eats too much ammo at it’s own Mayhem level to be any kind of big help.
2nd, I farmed gigamind on M10 and was able to crush him with a M2 YellowCake. It took the whole 33 rounds or so, but it wasn’t bad at all. GM dropped mostly M10 trash but I did get a sweet hellshock that you can count on at all Mayhem levels.
The disappointment from me comes from this morning’s gameplay. I tried an Eden 6 run on the Anvil and just lol is all you can say. On M6 with mostly M7 gear, I was constantly in FFYL trying to kill BadAsses and Annointed A-holes. They were dropping legendaries including several night hawks and ZX-1s so I picked them up to give them a try and yep, you guessed it…they were useless. I died like 4 or 5 times just trying to get through the first part of the map. Again, this was on M6 with mostly M7 gear.
It’s almost like you need to farm above the level you want to mob in. Most M7 weapons barely work on M6 and are too strong for M5 and that’s no fun.
So as I’ve said before on here it just seems that outside the OP QSystem, the YellowCake, Kaoson, the Lob, Hellshock and the Monarch(there may be a couple more options I just don’t have them) there just aren’t enough weapons you can get through the game with.
I won’t come back to the game until they:
Scale all weapons, shields, grenades, relics and chest rewards to each Mayhem level. Right now, there’s what, only 5-10 weapons that can do anything? That’s way too low. I understand some weapons are better than others, but to only have this many that really work makes the game boring.
Fix dedicated drops pools and their rates. Bosses drop to many commons that you can get as world drops. I don’t mind a challenge, but it shouldn’t take 15 kills to get 1 lousy drop.
Get rid of or change the modifiers. They’re trash. It’s hard enough to run into 2 Badasses and an annointed let alone do that and have to worry about the floor turning to lava or a 100 cryo orbs blowing up on you. That’s not a true challenge, it’s cheap tricks to down you and kill you. If I wanted that I would go play Super Marios Brothers or something like that lol.
The real answer to all this is to just go back to what it was pre-Mayhem 2.0. It would probably be too much of a challenge for them to re-code everything in 2.0 vs just taking it all out.

I have been playing Borderlands games since 2012 almost nonstop. At least 25% of all days since then have somehow been filled with playing Borderlands, even if I just did a quick farm, like killing some loot source 5 times. And still I am taking a break right now. It sounds kinda rude, but just don’t attach yourself emotionally to games. They are vehicles of fun and if they cannot give us said fun, then we should just switch vehicles until Gearbox fixes their game. There is no shame in taking a break and enjoying one of the thousands of other great games. I’m playing Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age right now and it’s refreshing.
I totally understand the OP sentiment. I’m close to there myself. I love the gameplay but the loot and mayhem 2.0 issues are really sapping any fun or enjoyment from the game for me.
Debilitating all pre-2.0 guns. Not scaling items or action skills. Mayhem modifiers that are designed to annoy and disable guns/builds and leans heavily on stat bloat instead of creating more difficulty that is challenging or fun. Literally obliterating all the Iron Bear patches that were just released to make it viable. Utterly nonsensical patch.
I had just gotten an IB build that was fun and viable on M4 and that’s a joke now. I try to come up with a new build and have ideas but when I try to farm for gear to complete the build I can’t get the items I want at all or with the correct element/anointments in a reasonable time farming.
I get the farming and I don’t mind doing it within reason but It’s become a chore to try and make progress in the game. With the addition of anointments there are just too many permutations for farming to be sane. Number of anointments need to be paired down and/or they need to add some sort of item crafting or this will just get worse and worse over time.
It’s especially bad for Moze because many of the anointments that aren’t even class specific don’t even work for Moze because of how IB works. Combine that with how infeasible IB is as an action skill and Moze is more or less broken unless you completely play around her action skill which makes no logical sense and means a huge number of action skills are pointless.
Bleh. Can’t believe GB thought all these changes would be a good idea.
same for tf2 even with no updates that game is just timeless
on a related note, ive been watching this GDC talk on path of exile. From their experience, holding back on content that’s already been made lowered their playerbase. “if you have content thats done, just put it out!”
im just a gamedev novice, but as a player i think id like that same philosophy for bl3. like follow obey skins. level caps! if those are ready why not just give them out. theres always something scummy about holding something back just for players to chase in the future.
i like the weekly updates, but i want them to be new stuff. not stuff they’ve had in storage for a few months. im a fan of scheduled content, but when it comes to level caps so miniscule when its been done in bigger amounts at larger intervals before, it feels cheaty
Doing a small level cap increment allows them to make all the stuff they HAD done obsolete. So if the 5 to 10 new weapons are overpowered, once the event ends put a 3 level cap increase and suddenly the old world drops are scaled up to match and suddenly the players cant depend on an OPQ or yellowcake because you cant get them at the new level.
Tis kind of a cheese strategy but understandable way to keep things “fresh” and get rid of mistakes. I mean, who uses terror anoints anymore? Cant get new ones and level 50 non mayhem weapons aint going cut it except as a bad way to refill some ammo or something.
Not condoning their behavior, just, I understand it.

The number of levels required to increase the cap by to make Yellowcake not OP is probably an unrealistic number.
I have played since launch. Have 9 max level vault hunters, and enjoyed this game very much. But I’m done, for now.
I do not enjoy it anymore. I cannot play with the guns I like at max level. Also too many crashes, dedicated loot drops are too low, and there are too many crap anointments, which adds to the lack of the (dedicated) drop you are looking for; plus modifiers that dont add to the fun, but instead add to frustration.
Please don’t think I’m having a pop but if you can’t enjoy your weapons at max level why don’t you drop to a level where you do enjoy them again? I’m only at M6 because that’s the earliest I can enjoy the new guns, but otherwise I’d have stayed at a lower level which I feel is better balanced, too. Just curious as to why other people torture themselves!
I get your other reasons. Constant crashes etc aren’t a lot of fun
Thats a legitimate question. With M2.0 I started at M6 and decided I would play at that level. After a couple of days I bumped up the Mayhem level, I guess because I wanted to ‘compete’ / participate at the highest available level. The best guns with the best damage, and the best drop rates (…) with guarenteed anointments. Maybe that was a mistake.
I stopped playing a few days after Mayhem 2.0 dropped but I’m just waiting for more hotfixes and a patch to come which will hopefully fix most of the issues. In the meantime I keep up with the forums to see how things are going. I really still love the gameplay, but the performance on my Xbox is worse than ever and I was crashing about once every hour. And that’s on top of the other annoying issues like not being able to see what Mayhem level your gear is and all the scaling problems.
Kinda funny because before M2.0 I expected the update to reignite my interest in the game, especially with the Cartel event. But I went from playing almost every day to letting the game collect dust.
I know what you mean. I wanted to get all my characters to OP8 in BL2 but in the end the only one that was fun there was Maya and I felt a better sweet spot for Axton was OP2. Taught me that highest level isn’t always the most fun one!
