Hmm… perhaps this may work on little girls, whose place in a vat of acid who have seen only nerfed hastily cut conditional version of Mordecai – some alien “Mordy guy” in BL2.
But it won’t work on those, who see Mordecai as more unique and complex phenomenon of Art, and something more interesting than just a drunk clown with dreadlocks. And it technically won’t work without actor through whose energy he got unique personality.
Like Indiana Jones/Solo/Deckard won’t work without Harrison Ford, or John McClane won’t work without Bruce Willis, or Mr. 47 won’t work without David Bateson. Or Trevor Philips works even in other settings without Steven Ogg! Kek
In top of my grandfather’s DVD collection even was a film which’s whole story could be described as “One does not simply forget Mordecai’s voice”… In this film was also stoned Roland with a crossbow!
(By the way, I think Matthew Tompkins with his rectangular head would also look pretty badass as one of Crimson Lance or Dahl Legion military dudes.)
Ahem!
So
I just feel weird that nobody even mentioned the only person who can perform Mordecai CORRECTLY.
Especially if his visual appearance no less expressive and unforgettable than his voice.
Okay, I say. Only Mordecai himself (I mean Julio Cedillo) as the hunter, OR DON’T EVEN MENTION THIS CHARACTER IN THE SCRIPT!
The same applies to future Borderlands games! NO Mordecai without Julio!
I don’t mind if GBX will keep adapting Borderlands series to be more inviting for infantile obscurantists, but without Mordecai.
However, I really don’t see any sense in wasting Borderlands series after the second saga was finalized so harmonious, and GBX made separate fpsmoba game expressly for causing epileptic seizures developing everyone’s favorite hilarity trends of BL2 as far as possible from this desperate wasteland!
So if they will decide to make Pandora groovy again, the returning of this BADASS charisma generator would be very helpful.
Appeared even in a small role in film, he can show everything you always wanted to know about Mordecai, but were afraid to ask.
As far as I saw he specializes on supporting roles, but his characters having even a pretty tiny time frames look not like characters, but like living people who have lived their own lives in completely different circumstances before appear in films (that’s definitely a sign of actor’s big talent and mastery).
And Mordecai from Borderlands is not some kind of superhero in a symbolic costume, allowing different interpretations, like Batman or Spider-man.
Mordecai is just a crazy ultimate incarnation of… marvelous Mexican multiverse-man with his own unique face which cannot be hidden with any mask!
And his absence in game-numbered-2 only shows how this disgusting “comedy” episode was evanescent, so Mad Melquiades was just busy with something more interesting(e.g. shooting and looting aliens with Walton Goggins in Jon Favreau’s sandbox)… or was just too drunk to play himself in Marcus’ theatricals… I can write a dozen retcons to live down this failure… But for Gearbox his absence is inexcusable.
I have to admit, substitute-actor actually did the work well as possible… except he’s not Julio. So in BL2 I was trying to pay attention only on subtitles imagining Mordecai’s lines with the voice for which they were written, instead of listening alien “Mordy guy”.
It was quite… uncomfortable. Yeah, shut the hell up Mordy!
Actually I have the sneaking suspicion that absence of true Mordecai in BL2 was one of deliberate dirty tricks meant to highlight the feeling that “bad guys took away your happiness”. Nice effort, I GUESS.
Bad Gearbox.
Rockstar would never lose such amazing actor! By the way… I think Julio would be awesome as the protagonist for GTA series, i can imagine something like marvelous adventures of Cholo Manelli in Vice City, besides GTA series did not have truxican protagonists after Bubba from Grand Theft Auto 1. I would like to get one in HD universe…
Oh… and what if Denis Villeneuve would give him a cameo in Blade Runner Sequel? E.g. he could be a nice replicant with his specific manner to gaze through space seems like he actually stares at stereogram (or is it just a slight strabismus? stunning animation anyway!)
Oh, wait, i know… Julio should get into MCU!
And of course i always happy to see him in my favorite realistic cozy dramatic type of films with calm narration and brilliant direction…
Oh, and yeah, almost forgot… I’ve already mentioned that Julio is the very man who can perform Mordecai in superbadass Borderlands film!! and his mastery of showing stunning animation(or how correctly to name when alive creatures do facial expressions and motion?) could be used to show, for example, reaction of the human being at the first contact with emanations from Heaven dimension and its “Eridian” Guardians, or to show all sci-fi horrors of using New-U stations, or to make us believe that on a place of a blue toy covered with CGI is actually alive Bloodwing, or when just… DAMN! OUTOFAMMO!! and other cracking situations which automatically become imagined cinematically when we just play the videogame…

but in case if Borderlands film really happen and will affect Mordecai anyhow, it should be worthy for his presence, I mean it should be really superbadass , qualitative film with a good story.
Otherwise these filmmakers better don’t touch such important character, and shoot their promotional COMEDY for stupid kids about Hyperion boyband with Faceless Clarkodemon, Justin Bieber and… something else popular, so it could be forgotten as soon as possible.
I really believe that there is a very tiny hopeful chance that BL film won’t be complete trash as it usually happened with “films” exploiting video game brands.
After WARCRAFT film came out absolutely PERFECT and AWESOME, can happen the emergence of a new trend of good films directly related to video games series.
So I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Assassin’s Creed film with Michael Fassbender, not really interested in Assasin’s creed series (played a little bit because of Jesper Kyd’s amazing soundtrack) but if everything will be okay with this film it will help to raise the bar of quality standards. So making trash for money laundering will become simply unacceptable for developers’ reputation.
As TK? Honestly, weird.
I can suggest Christopher Heyerdahl as TK… or maybe Woody Harrelson would fit.
But I also thought about Bruce Campbell, when I was trying to imagine healthy version of Game-numbered-2. How about Bruce Campbell as Handsome Jack? He can play nasty stupid narcissistic cowardly vile psychopath… but he can’t be 100% evil and not funny, 'cause Bruce has no empty evil eyes or absolute lack of charisma, so he would look like funny interesting antagonist - which is completely contrary to the whole concept of this character.
Hard to imagine such a dark dimension from which GBX took out this evil dead nothingness
Not kosher. This rotten Clarkodemon was stinking for too long.
Demons are very perishable product, so they should be ripped in short order.
