Going to be honest this game is 90% of how I like it. I only have a few gripes honestly with the game. I just want more content added tbh.
Guns feel great. Action skills feel great. There is definitely a lot of variety.
I enjoyed playing each character again with their 4th skill trees but I still would have rather had new characters. Somebody else said this but it is a bit funny how previous DLC characters shined in this game (Aurelia, Gaige, Krieg, Timothy) yet DLC characters not being popular (or something) was the cause for no new characters in this game. Seemed a bit silly.
I don’t know what can be different but melee in this game didn’t feel right to me. Other people have said it but it’s a weird thing when the best melee experience in the game is through the use of a gun (Facepuncher). And I was melee only Brick/Zero/Krieg/Athena in previous games so unsure why I never got into the melee spirit in this game.
I enjoy 90% of everything in this game. The only thing that leaves a sour taste in my mouth is the story and what I think the direction of the story is taking. I said this in another thread but I think maybe they should wrap up BL3 as a “This is the best it’s going to get” and just move onwards to BL4. The gameplay elements and mechanics are far superior than previous games that I want them to continue with this trend but just refine their story to give us a banger complete package for BL4.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. What they need to do…
FIX…THE…GAME
The game crashing bugs
The awful matchmaking
The disaster that is Mayhem 2.0. Mayhem scaling for gear and skills is a disaster
The useless/pointless/broken skills in the skill trees
The useless/pointless/broken class mods
The awful distribution of gear drops and drop rates
New content for a broken game is still a broken game.
I don’t see anything in the patch notes that comes close to this…

The biggest complaint about the game, honestly.
If they gave us a mayhem 3.0, where we could pick difficulty level and then select how many modifiers and which ones, most people would be happy. I’d prefer that, 100%. I still don’t get why the current Gearbox team seems to dislike giving players choices and wants to force them to play certain ways, even if that’s not fun for them.
This always felt wrong to me. Action skills in previous games have always been something that happened around you or something you activated for a short time/ You might be able to build around long uptimes (like Zer0 doing a melee combo or Sal killing fast enough to keep gunzerking), but that took work. Moze can use iron bear for ages from the moment you unlock it. It’s fun, but it might have been better as a short action skill that you had to put points into skills to prolong.
This could work, but given how badly this gearbox team is handling what’s already in the game, I don’t see it happening. They can’t even figure out snipers or heavy weapons, let alone a sword or whatever.
Seems like the obvious solution is to tie that damage directly to whatever weapon you’re using when you start your action skill. So, entering iron bear gives you a super-badass version of whatever gun you had, with unlimited ammo, or buzzaxe rampage deals melee damage equal to your gun damage and swings as fast as your fire rate.
I could see that being abused, but at least your gear would matter. Then again, look at BL1’s action skills and they ALL seemed to be about doing damage that was independent of your weapons, so maybe the point is that the skills need to be shorter?
Or add a new slot, plus one for Oz kits? 6 equipment slots is a lot, but why not go crazy with the looting?

yea so just linking your melee or mech damage to your pistol is that kind of band aid fix i dont really want to see
but yea, i would be all for character specific items that support these playstyles and make it more exciting to farm
like imagine being a 100% mech moze and you are dropping some crazy ass COV buzzfists or maliwan laser beams for iron bear
it could be so cool

i meant theoretically if Borderlands was a gun game exclusively he wouldnt be the same character. his entire gimmick is being a ninja assassin which is his advertised appeal. strip that out and hes just a sniper which is fun but strips 1/2 of what makes him unique
cant speak for endgame zer0 as i havent played him but leveling zer0’s melee is some of the most exciting gameplay ive had in the series

that would be cool, ive always wanted BL to have melee weapons but gearbox has said its not what they wanted to do so i dont think it’ll happen. i wonder how it would be implemented though, BL would have to change its movement system to complement it i think
to get back on topic though, i dont think any patch will do it for me. ive long accepted the core of this game does not have what i wanted in a BL sequel and you can’t really fix core issues without making a new game instead

I don’t expect the game to be properly balanced by the time the raids are implemented.
I’d like to see the scaling bugs in all characters fixed as soon as possible and the game returned to normal.
Especially some scaling bugs in Moze and Amara.
Even if it’s a legitimate fix, the longer it takes, the more the bug users will freak out.
This is evident in the example of Zane’s commitment.
This is the result of neglecting a problem that was pointed out at the time of the live unveiling of the new tree.

Hot take: people put a lot more emphasis on M2.0 as a sum of its individual parts, when in fact what people object to is (often different specific) parts of the system and not the whole system itself.

Old mayhem, people didn’t like they modifiers (they where weird and often just restrictive. Most players would just reroll the zone to get favorable mods)
Mayhem 2.0, people complain about pretty much everything… Difficulty scaling isn’t doing much, half the mods are stupid/anoying/broken/restrictive and rerolling is just dumb… Weapon scaling is unnecessary, skill scaling is hard to balance it seems and so on…
There’s nothing M2.0 did better then old mayhem IMHO they should have continued with M4 instead they tried to reinvent the wheel

People, generally, complain about everything, generally.
People, individually, will often complain about specific things.
(also people complained about a lot more about M1.0 and were even asking for OP levels back then, but I guess we just forget

but that is only because he is melee built in character, you talk about the established fact while i was talking theory. if he was not partly halfass melee and advertised as such but instead designed as either sniper or close quarters killer you would never have thought… “hey i wish this character was melee based”
all i was emphasizing is that bl2 has two “melee” character but only 4 5 pieces of gear for it while gun and nade gear is abundant and flashed out. bl is not warhammer i rather not have this halfass melee and have better gun play oriented action skills

There are still things that need to be done.
Remove dlc anointments from base game. I dont want this stupid battle royale dlc and neither the anointments on my stuff.
Loading times on console… I mean they can’t fix this but what they can do is remove save and quit mechanic and replace it by respawnable bosses.
I had 3 points in my list and one (reroll anointments) is checked from it. But until the other two are such a pain I won’t install the game again.

if all future characters would just be using guns but better i dont think it’d be as exciting. They’re there in part break up the monotony of shooting over and over again. Activate Decepti0n and suddenly you change your gameplay from shootings things to dashing into enemies or fixing your placement to get behind them.
Melee/pets are only half-assed because the games don’t have enough tools to make it good. Not that it’s innately bad no matter what. These things don’t need to be removed from future classes, just gives us more ways to build on them without limiting us to 4-5 pieces of gear.

Amara they could just make an action skill augment around melee…
The whole fist theme would be perfect. Have phase cast do melee damage or something?
So much they could have done if they really wanted…
Iron bear could get its guns/weapons get augmented with looted guns instead of being a stand allone (biggest reason i never played moze)
Zane’s clone could just as well be given a gun instead of using the one you have on you when activated.
Drone could get a grenade mod…
Did GBX really never thought of these things?

There is one thing that M2.0 did better and that is Action skill/pet damage/melee scaling, which wasn’t in the game at launch and could’ve prevented how overbuffed Iron Bear is for the main campaign, amongst other things. M4 got rid of the modifiers, true, but the insane scaling in comparison to M3 made so that a lot of guns were basically not very good and it started the insane overbuff tactic with weapons like Krakatoa or The Lob (and because of that, over time it became really, really easy)
I also believe that, now that M11 is here, the complain about rerolling is also greatly exagerated, because M10 was probably the most rerolled mayhem level and the others really don’t matter that much. Most easy modifiers give you a benefit, so whatever you get is good and the normal/hard ones besides the infusion inmunities (which can be easily canceled if you have guns of every element) are for the most part not a big deal. Would the system have been better if you could pick the modifiers? I mean, 100% yes, absolutely, I would actually play on M10 if I could pick them up. However, I’ve leveled up two characters to max level since M11, climbing up a mayhem level at a time, and the most I’ve been rerolling on the screen is, maybe, 3-4 minutes tops.
I feel the biggest issue with current mayhem system, besides not being able to choose the modifiers, it’s the fact you can just climb to M10 and pick M10 guns right from the start, which effectively makes your weapon 10 levels higher than what you’re sitting at and so makes a ton of lower difficulties irrelevant if you choose to and further simplifies or cuts down the length of the endgame grind. Maybe they could block higher mayhems by completing slaughter shaft or proving grounds once, and every time you completed a new one you could unlock another, or make it so after you finish the game, you unlock a new EXP bar and once you fill that bar you unlock a new mayhem level (similar to the World tier system from outriders) and so on.
I don’t know what they could do, because I’ve been enjoying myself finishing the campaign once, then starting at M1 and going up in levels as soon as it becomes too easy or find a strong weapon until M11, and I believe that’s the intended method of playing the developers had in mind.

been saying this for ages. M4 was not perfect, it started a ton of the issues that were expanded on with mayhem 2.0, and if I had to choose one to be stuck with one mode forever I’d much rather have the game in its current state.

Hm
The modifiers are bad, the scaling is bad, the drop rates are overtuned, the free upgrades are bad, give me a single part of the system that improved anything?
True that was needed
skills where pretty useless in M4 haha
