I meant to post this bit of nonsense a couple of days ago. However, I originally recorded it back in 2010 when PCs were slower, disks were smaller and bandwidth was limited. The quality was terrible. So I did it again. The “Enhanced” version
Lilith, Playthrough 2.5, all the Old Haven missions (simulated), no weapons!
I appreciate all the opinions up to this point. I made this forum expecting a yes or no answer to my question. But I actually got a third option while going through the replies: Put the money towards BL3. And after thinking about it, I’ve decided to pre-order Borderlands 3.
I realize I’m way late here but - I got BL1 Goty for my xbox one X last christmas (2019) for $15, and just decided to jump into it this month (like a year later). I’ve never really played BL before except for a few hours in BL 2 a while back. On my Xbox One X with pretty good tv (samsung Q70) the game looks great, and i was really happy to find out it runs mostly 60 fps. I am addicted, i have two characters going, roland (28ish) and Brick (15ish). The lack of story does kind of suck but the gameplay itself and the loot makes me want to keep playing it. its also really fun to re-spec my skill points to try stuff since it doesnt cost much money to do it. I got the Handsome Collection this christmas for $15 also, and i’m looking forward to jumping into BL2 but i want to at least finish a P1 or a P2 in BL 1 before i do, but everyone has said that BL2 is really where its at. but I’m really glad i played BL 1 first, so that way, I’ll appreciate more everything they improved in BL2. Also, I was HIGHLY tempted to pick up BL3 base game for xbox one for $10 at bestbuy but, i’m going to just wait for the complete game since these have so many DLCs and i havent even finished BL1 yet let alone the Handsome Collection.
Play the game, try all of the characters, check out different loot, find your favorite weapons, there is so much to do in BL1 you’ll be surprised. Read about how to play DLC’s. Then play TPS and only then BL2. Don’t even think about playing BL3 yet, you’ll spoil everything!
Do you recommend the Pre-Sequel before borderlands 2? I researched this on YouTube and Google and basically only one guy said play tps first; EVERYONE else said to play BL2 before tps because tps spoils the BL2 story .
I don’t still play bl2 at all. The things I dislike about it…it just falls flat for me now. And I do have many hours in it…op8 characters…etc…I actually like tps better than 2 for the same basic engine. I still play bl1 almost every day. It’s flawed and bugged and dated now I guess but there’s very little I would actually change about it. There is still gear , almost 5 years later here, I have yet to find. The story yeah…who cares lol. It’s the game within the game that’s gonna keep you there, if you can get into it enough to appreciate it. It doesn’t hand it to you. It tells you "yeah…orange is rare… look out for pearls …etc .but it’s so much more than that. When you find that perfect gun you’ve been wanting it’s literally a drug. There’s enough farms available you aren’t ever gonna find everything there is to find.

No. Do BL2 first. (I’m not sure it matters so much as far as spoilers during the story go, but a lot of the background banter will make more sense this way).
BTW most of the story in BL1 is actually in the mission descriptions (often quite lengthy) and the various sets of lost echoes (side quests). Fortunately you can go back and re-listen to these in your inventory - something that got dropped for BL2 that was sorely needed, and I’m glad they brought it back in BL3.
Okay, maybe I played those games too much, and got a little confused after playing TPS,
and after finishing it I thought “Damn I wish I knew those things before I played BL2” - no spoilers.
Just play the games as they where released, and decide for yourself.
Oh yeah, I’ve been reading every quest description and listening to all the recordings. for example, those 5 recordings you get of Tannis in arid badlands were pretty interesting.
Very worth it. What you have to remember about the ending of BL1 is that while the boss doesn’t drop much, you get the good loot during the build up to him. Crimson lance drop tons of good stuff, and there’s tons of good chests along the way. That’s just how the game was designed. Also be sure to check the gun vendors often, and play the claptrap DLC.
BL1 is a pretty ok game that is incredibly amusing to play with friends. A single playthrough won’t take you a huge amount of time if your any good ar fps games. It hasn’t aged gracefully. The control is rather lose like many games pushing there limits back in that day. Difficulty can be all over the place especially for a solo player but generally not so much that you will be frustrated more so that you will gather determination to see what rewards you reep from the challange. Boss battles are far behind what you see in later games but being the first game in th franchise I feel it deserves a break in that regard.
Dispite it not being the ‘holy grail’ of gaming it is a fun time doublely so if you have a friend to play it with. Don’t go in with high expectations the game is over 10 years old. Playing the games in chronological orders as I did earlier this year truly gives you an appreciation for how far Gearbox has come in 12 years.
