I wouldn’t be playing very much Battleborn in that case. I think that I played only one game out of six or seven last night in which there was no Ernest.
Well, every game like this occasionally has characters that are strong but with obvious weaknesses. For example, pre fix Kleese. High damage and zoning, easy to kill
Ernest is overpowered, he can hold down an area from across the map. He reminds me of the noobtubers from Modern Warfare. He can kill large characters, like attikus, in mere seconds; its ridiculous.
I really don’t think Ernest is game breakingly strong. He just needs his nade timers nerfed and that will fix a lot of the problems people have been having facing him. He can effectively snipe across the map and net kills he really doesn’t deserve. And that pesky sentry cheesing. I haven’t seen an Ernest ever do it personally, but people have been complaining about it and I definitely understand the frustration
The only thing they need to fix with Ernest imo is the fact that direct hit procs on the person hit and the people near the person who got hit will also take the bonus damage of direct hit. That’s why he obliterates waves so hard
We go through this with every new character. With the exception of Alani, who was a legitimate badass killing machine when first released, the community is having to go through some growing pains to figure out how to deal with the new guys. The only reason why people are feeling like Pendles and Ernest are overpowered is because they can’t adapt to the change. This perception couldn’t be further from the truth, and unlike Alani, these new characters are in a great spot right out of the gate.
Pick a couple reveal helixes, and Pendles is trash. He isn’t taking ANYONE out in 3 hits, that’s just delusional thinking. I fear a decent Rath or good Phoebe player over a good Pendles player as long as you take care of yourself.
Ernest might be a minion eating machine, but guess what? He’s nowhere near alone in that category! I routinely play as 10 different Battleborns who are capable of high minion kills. I haven’t been able to, nor have I seen Ernest get top kills in any match, but his assists are on point. He is a support character, and as such, he needs to be disturbed and pushed back as often as possible to really get a handle on any map.
Im sending out a challenge to you. Next time you come against a Pendles, make a couple changes in your helix choices to combat his sneakiness. Every character is capable of either countering, or negating his presence on the field. And when you see an Ernest, push him WHILE being mobile! Don’t be a turret, don’t be a gladiator, be like the wind! His projectiles are slower than you think, his shots need to be led, and for crying out loud don’t sacrifice yourself for taking out his egg! Chase and scare the fat bastard out of his safe zone, and then be opportunistic.
I love how people keep telling me that Pendles can’t do what he does. Here is just the latest example, although it took him 5 hits to kill me this time. Last night, I was playing Oscar Mike. I was third level, and at full health and shields. I was standing in Ernest’s attack speed egg, shooting at Shane, when Pendles hit me. I immediately turned around and fired my napalm grenade right at my feet and backpedaled while unloading my rifle into Pendles. Remember, I am in Ernest’s attack speed egg and a pool of burning napalm. Pendles advances through the napalm and barrage of bullets, hitting me five times, and kills me. And Pendles survives. So much for him being squishy.
He then did exactly the same thing again later in the game, when I had to fight him again because my cloak was on cooldown.
Really? If I’m playing Oscar Mike or Whiskey Foxtrot, what?
How do I do that when, as I peek around the corner to see where he and his egg are, I take a three or four grenades to the face before I can even spot him? I am like the wind, running back to the healing station before I die! And no, his grenades are too fast to dodge, unlike Benedict’s rockets, and they are ridiculously accurate.
I’ve mastered pendles and I’m sitting at 80 matches played with him. The only person in the game I can kill within 6-7 hits is miko since his crit is huge so it’s easy to crit him. He’s an assassin he’s supposed to take you out quick but he doesn’t take you out in 3-5 hits.
Have you played pendles yourself?
He may have been, I really can’t tell. I was backing up in a line, through my napalm. I was not jumping, because I wanted to make sure that I landed every shot on him. Anyways, the point was that he killed me from full heath, in five hits, while standing in a pool of napalm and Ernest’s egg and a stream of bullets and a grenade hit. Twice in one game, but the second time there was no egg. The only reason that I fought him the first time was that I thought I could take him because I was in the egg. The second time, my escape was on cooldown.
