Is It Too Easy To Master Characters Now?

Is it too easy to master characters now? Superficially, yes. The mastery title used to be an indicator of having gone through anywhere between 20-100 hours learning the ins and outs of one character. Spending all that time on any character would make the enemy team writhe with fear upon seeing that you have chosen that character for a multiplayer match.

These days, it just shows that you completed the lore and got to level 15. Leveling up and completing the lore is faster than it ever was before, which can lead to false hope when someone on your team uses a “mastered” character. Can’t rely on them anymore.

Load up a private game and have your friends play Deande. Clones count.

Ta Dah! Finished.

ill help you finish if deande clones work. i only need 9 more for mine :mask:

I was skeptical, as I heard it from someone who mastered Alani within the first week, doing waves in the launch room and jumping in herself as the fifth player.

It works. Two Deande plus two clones plus any other player.

I actually did it with two Deande and two Alani.

Load up your favorite story with a cliff at the beginning, Hardcore on.

Put the Alani characters about 3/4ths of a wave length apart with the two Deande’s in the middle.

Deande’s clone. Alani 1 throws down a riptide. Wait until the wave clears, then Alani 2 tosses hers out.

Rise repeat, until you both have it unlocked. Jump off a cliff to end the mission.

i find it hard to find other people so I’ve been trying to find a kink in this lore to work. i tried using deande and melika npcs+ my 2 brothers it worked once, but not anymore, i move around a bunch too maybe you cant do it when there kicking the computer idk :expressionless:
i just need to find one other person then, since i think yourself counts, clone trick seems better. my older brother doesn’t have deande :mask:

I’ve had all the lore done for a while now, so the change in experience was the biggest factor for me.

It WAS too grindy before to level once you passed 10, now it seems more reasonable.

I’m up to 15-16 mastered but almost all are over level 12 now.

Only a matter of time…

I don’t think you count.

But, if you’re on Xbox, hit me up. I’ve usually got a few level 100 friends online. We’ll group up and hook you up. It won’t take too many minutes. Especially if you equip a cost free cool down item.

I don’t think it’s too easy to master characters. Many of them still take a frustrating amount of time/grinding to accomplish. Now, this is coming from a mainly PvE’ers point of view and someone who doesn’t have a lot of free time to play. From that standpoint, I’m glad for all of the lore changes. I only have two characters mastered and I’m CR 92. It still takes awhile, especially if you’re not always 100% focused on getting lore done because you just want to play for fun/only have the option of playing with randoms.

To answer the title, no, it isn’t. It was a silly chore before and for the most part had nothing to do with being able to play the character.

I have a very strong feeling now, that mastering a character, challenges and lore shouldn’t be considered a single entity.

  1. Lore is just a lore, it doesn’t necessary have to be difficult to get. Same with character specific legendaries - they are like 6th helix mutation, some are useful, some - not that much.
  2. Challenges - there are plenty of them in the game, they can be of any sort and difficulty, more of them can be added in future. Just let them be what they are - a reputation thing, not barriers everyone has to pass to get to some essential parts of the game.
  3. Mastering a character - a title and an achievement - whatever devs want it to be; I’m not sure about the core idea behind it. Should it be another hard challenge to show off you are strong with that hero? Or should it be just a sign you got everything for this character, as it is now?

I agree.

Some of the lore was just super grindy and had no challenge. If it wasn’t that they are tied to the XB1 achievements, I probably wouldn’t have done them all.

Despite some of the complaints, I loved the fact that Ernest’s lore was so easy - I was working on Alani’s riptide for weeks so this was a nice change PLUS I’m not good at PVP so I hate the PVP ones as I know they will take me forever to get at the detriment of my team.

As for Master the characters, I’m going to say no. Not everyone has hours every day to work on leveling up the characters to Level 15 - if anything its a very time consuming process. I’ve only got 13/28 of them there. Will be doing all of them, but don’t foresee that being anytime soon.

i see  im on ps4 but thanks for the offer.

I can say at least for me that a good thing that came of this is not having a random playing a character they have no idea about and crippling the team. I think it did what it was supposed to do and encourage players to branch out to other characters and not just play OM all day. I think they were a little over the top bring down ones like Boldur but fair on a few others.

Yeah, the Plasma one is better cuz at first I didn’t even use that. Now I feel like I’m better with her because it forced me to try

Not really stealth. They said that they bumped it up, at the same time when they made the surrender exp changes

Oh okay. I think I was taking a break during that time, so I missed it :stuck_out_tongue: thanks.

Yeah, apparently I didn’t read everything carefully.

Do you get less if you surrender than if you don’t stick it out to the end?

Thanks.

Yep. Surrenderers get significantly lower, while winners of surrendered matches get compensated fairly. Since then, I must admit, I’ve noticed less surrenders. And why not? I only try to surrender if it’s early on and I can tell it’ll be a long battle I’ll slowly lose. Otherwise, lose fast and get exp, or win fast and get more exp or they surrender to give you more exp. It’s a smart mechanism

I whine like a mule when people call for surrender. Finish the game! and work on lore!
