Yes, some players are basically running after you all the time and completely ignoring objectives. I had a galilea basically crossing the whole map (and in diagonal to boot) running after me to finally kill me. The reason that Galilea killed me was because I would have never ever imagined that she wouldn’t give up after all that running and CCing her to keep my distance and the like, so I just stopped walking and started a recall… to see Galilea appearing behind me. The guy crossed two lanes, the path of several allies that would have required his help, but no, he ignored everything just to kill me O_o".
That may have been due to inexperience as well as selfishness. I myself was guilty of this in the beginning, chasing way too far, I learned that if they run you don’t chase unless you can stun or outspeed and secure the kill. With Galilea, when an opponent runs I only give chase if I have Shield Throw ready and if they are close enough for me to close the gap after a stun and secure the kill before they run again. Lotta ifs and buts lol. Galilea fights best on her ground and on her terms, chasing that far with her sounds like sheer cockiness and/or inexperience to me.
K/D used to be my prime metric of achievement in my 20ties. According to some new research I am now past my prime gaming time and my K/D started to reflect that.
This is what initially sparked my interest for Battleborn. See I like it a lot when things die around me in numbers.
So I figured killing all the enemy minions for my team would be the perfect role for an aging FPS player like me
in todays competitive world.
That being said, I don’t mind taking a pause from killing to complete objectives and go out of my way to save teammates when it makes sense.
Ultimately achieving the objective is the only goal that matters.
I focus more on healing assist to death ratio… My record so far is around 40:0 with 100+K healing. If anyone is looking for a dedicated healer on their team, add me on psn: rymo-
I saw a guy go 0-18 with Caldarius and then proceed to tell me how easy Cal was to play the next day
K/D matters to an extent
Killing players means that you and your team are leveling up faster. You can kill minions and set up towers. Buy gear and if one member is down it will just make that next team fight that much easier.
Personally I had 3.0K/D but I guess that really doesn’t matter much. I mained orendi and galelia (who is broken imo) who are known to be very aggressive. I played with every chracter I could in the beta (20~) and went positive with every single one expect for one game with Miko I went 4/4 which is okay/good for a support.
To be fair I probably ignored minions too much in meltdown but still never enough to throw the game.
On the other hand, kills mean everything in incursion. More offense less defense.
TL:DR: K/D matters
I would actually disagree in Incursion. Just having all Battleborn push as hard as possible can be an easy way to get killed, not to mention this can easily create tunnel vision to where your base’s defenses get raided and 3/4 thralls are summoned by one ambitious Oscar Mike. A complete overrun works great against inexperienced players, but any team that has someone focusing on building and getting thralls/fatmen is gonna really hinder an all out attack.
It’s a matter of progressing as a unified front (Even if it’s just a tank and a ton of minions and thralls) versus kill happy bros, and I think an entire team of the former beats the latter. But that’s all things being equal. Again, against inexperienced players, steam roll away (I always find this to be boring myself tho), not to mention most teams will be a mix of both.
All that said, no matter your approach, I think not dying is far more important than killing, cause dead Battleborn born don’t, well, battle.
Well if almost all enemy battleborn are dead and you’re pushing lane with or without (likely with) the mercenaries the chances of you dying are slim. As soon as the enemy respawn or your minions start to die off you can just back off a little and reset.
I’ve out played Galileas real badly putting them in negative K/D area and they’d still out level me
hate how they passively clear lanes and level so fast
That’s true, her damage over time aoe makes it easy for her to get credit for every minion
Looks like we played together in the beta.
That’s me in the first screenshot at the top, with only 3 kills.
Haha, you can add me and play support any day
Me and my buddy I play with most of the time have to switch off and on support all the time, but I prefer front-lining big old tanks personally.
As far as K/D, it’s a very moba-based game, with a long TTK, watch any good moba at a competitive level, and there will be games that end with only one or two kills.
In a MOBA, killing isn’t the only way to beat someone, you push them out: you steal their farm… you make them back: you advance the wave… you deny them objectives and kills: you frustrate them into making mistakes.
Even an assassin doesn’t have to have kills, if they’re constantly putting out huge damage, and forcing the enemy to retreat and disengage, then they’re doing their job and your team is profiting.
W/L is always more important to me than K/D.
i agree with u completely , in my exp in the beta the matches where I was paired with players that were looking for kills we ended up almost always losing at times it seemed I was the only one building escorting minions etc some players I guess do not know how to play this type of game properly or maybe the just want to have a god K:D to brag about i usually always got an even sometimes positive K:D but when i got a negative I was still satisfied because I knew I did my part at least.
Lol I played 200+ games so probably played with everyone here haha, feel free to add me nonetheless
That was a brutal game, one of tbe best I was a part of, can’t fault you for getting 3 kills with WF in such a fast-paced and high kill game.
Spot on mate.
Played a few rounds in PVP today and figured this out for myself pretty quickly.
You basically win by attrition. Rescource management and teamplay are key to success. I don’t care if my enemy lives or dies as long as I get what he has.
As Miko, you could look at how many assists you have. That is a good gauge of how much you were supporting the people who were killing the enemy team.
Hehe, I’ve done 34-0 in the Beta
With Marquis.
And I held a KDA of 66.00 with him throughout 40 matches, in Live game i hold a KDA of 18+ (60% of deaths are in co-op mode not PVP) , but i’m just a veteran player that has played FPS’s for almost all my life and therefore i have a huge advantage over anyone else with characters such as Marquis.
Sorry for bragging, I’d say i’m one of the best Marquis’s around right now, keep in mind I also did 34-0 while using aim assist, that is no longer possible on PC, which I love that devs disabled it for PC users, still contining on with my Marquis brag, my sniper rifle accuracy says to be 84% out of 50+ matches I’ve played with him in live.
I have been playing FPS for twenty years now but I have never seen someone with a K/D higher than 5.
Then again somebody who is ace in UT or Tribes might have a feast here. Tribes people are scary as fvck.
In UT at least I got to shoot back.
Kills are relevant, as to reply to everyone here.
You kill, you get fed, you get exp, you outlevel your enemies, you start pushing faster, your team get’s more freedom, you win games unless you’re shutdown, lucky kills can help but if you’re killing consistently then you’re going to get fed and start killing even more giving your team freedom to deal massive amounts of disruption and damage.
Since this is a MOBA, getting “Fed” is a term to be used here when talking about kills.
Shutdowns are also important mid to late game.
The term “fed” means you’re fat, on XP, it does not mean you got a lot of kills. You can get TONS of kills, and die moments afterwards, and wind up behind someone who farms better than you.
You don’t have to get kills to get fed, you can outlevel the other team quite easily by shard/buildable farming in this game
