Yeah, Slam is buggy too. I tried to use it one day farming Gigamind, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn’t… in the meantime while trying to get onto something and then jump and slam, I would be taking a lot of damage from incoming fire and sometimes downed. It’s a very very poorly thought out mechanic. If you could simply jump and slam that would make it a lot better but probably still something that I would never ever use…

Well, I mean the issue is obviously that one: it’s completely environmental. No Vault Hunter other than Amara can do a slam without something to climb on and jump down from.
Two: It’s not that good. Like, it’s kind of difficult to hit and the damage really is nothing to write home about, even with relics boosting it.

On low gravity maps it works pretty good with a Spark Plug.

If fracture worked properly it would be awesome!! Fracture doesn’t proc the slam anointed I’ve heard, or any ase anointed for that matter! Oh you didn’t mean phase slam lol

I actually liked the spark plug relic, was using one during the Halloween dlc and it would clear most weak mobs and take out the skulls. Was too awkward to use without a double jump like TPS though

Slam would be viable if you could do it by jumping. Not having to get higher than a normal jump. Finding stuff to jump off to slam is more work than just shooting at enemies

They should add a feature to all slam relics that allows the vault hunter to use enemies as a step for a tiny double jump that stuns enemies for like 0.2 seconds and gives a little bit of height, just enough for a slam.

For a Zane player, you’d be crazy to even try Slam, why waste all the time trying to set up a slam, when you could just swap places with your clone to do massive amounts of damage. You don’t even need a swap with clone weapon to get the swap bonus, you can get it to 40% o think in the skill tree. But the weapons with 130% on swap added to that will far out do a slam. At least on Zane. It almost feels like Slam was create just for Amara

I keep hoping we’ll eventually get something akin to the jet packs that were vented out of the sanctuary cargo hold at the beginning of the game. Would make slam and airborne effects actually usable. (/tin-foil hat)
Edit: Those left-handed guns sounded snazzy too.

But, but, but, a bunch of artifacts make cool lights and splashy things when I slam even though it does no damage. AND you can slam through all the trap doors in the game. And let me tell you, there are tons of trap doors!!

Think it is more of brainstorming suggestions to a game mechanic rather than figuring out best of best.

The Spark Plug relic can do real damage. I’m trying to get through the Trial of Instinct on mayhem 1 with a Spiritual Driver Amara with only a Backfire Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and an assortment of grenades to do damage, no guns no melee.
It’s a load of fun but the time limit is getting me and the fact that I can only find really good grenades in electric.

I guess they could tie in a jump boost to the slam artifacts that ads enough jump height to make using it more feasible… I use it very rarely it’s usually after a battle and I’m jumping off a higher platform or entering a boss area. I once tried to use it to break the eridium off of one of the grey chests but sadly it didn’t work.

I think the slam feature got several different problems.
- Difficult to execute. You need to be on some kind of hight ground.
- Low damage. Keep shooting is normaly the bether idear.
- It takes to long till you can move again after a slam. You are an easy target.
I think @Tramonto got an great idear!
I would make it a permanent feature without the need for a relic thou.
I still don’t think thats enough to make the slam usefull.
Ramping up the damage would help of course.
Problem is if the slam does more damage that just shooting, you would start spamming it.
I would prefer the slam to be a powerfull stun. You jump on the enemys head and stun him for a second, you slam next to him and he starts flying throug the air. Could be usefull sometimes.
An enemy who got stunned cant get stunned immidiately again so you can’t abuse this feature.
Additionally give it a little bit more damage and reduce the time you can’t move after the slam.

For me, anything that boosts slam or slide (either a relic or an anointment ) gets vendor’ed immediately.
It’s the setup that I don’t like. Both require more setup than running and gunning, and I don’t want to distract myself in the middle of battle.

needs immunity while in animation as a standard, and it should be able to be done without having to be in an elevated position. these changes would make it viable, kinda.

here’s I an idea for a slam relic, huge aoe upon landing and everything caught in that aoe are debuffed by 20%. slam into a bunch of mobs and use brainstormer to melt, sounds fun to me. or, same idea, anything caught inside aoe is stunned for 5 - 10 seconds.

I use it constantly, both in and out of arenas. I personally love it (all characters, and not just tesla coils).
There’s no way I’m alone in this.

One of my biggest problems with slam is not its lack of damage but lack of utility. Borderlands 3 doubled down on the number of things physics applied to. Barrel tossing is personally one of my favorite things to do. Go up melee the barrel towards and enemy and then shoot the barrel.
Then talking about melee even with Mayhem enemies with a ton of HP it’s still great for stunning an enemy for a few seconds in close range. Slam I my mind should have a good amount of knockback and a slightly larger radius. Also the fact that your environment needs to support he usage of a slam and your vulnerable while recovering for about 2 seconds.
One thing I think would fix alot of my issue with the recovery would be to have us go 3rd person when slamming.
Anyone who played Battleborn at launch may remember Attikus has a Pounce ability. At launch it was a first person view while you where in he air making it hard to orient and control your character upon landing. The change to a 3rd person view made controlling of much easier you see what and where you where going.
This kind of angle is actually used for Amara’s Phaseslam.
I think giving slam some more knockback, and or a short stun to anything caught in its radius would be great. Also having a camera shift, more damage and then giving slam a short cooldown could also be another way to add some more utility.

Thanks you everyone for your insight into this. It seems to be a popular opinion that slam could use an overhaul and i would hope that Gearbox would hear our feed back on the matter and make more use of the mechanic.
