That’s why I suggested to farm for a Thumper or an Order: it may take several hundreds hours, but at least you get one at every attempt. You can also learn shield parts
Yep, let’s be honest: I don’t think any of us actually farmed our sets of OP8 elemental Hides, Bees, perfect parts Sandhawks, Pimps, etc.
They were “gifted” to me by someone which I’m sure they farmed legitimately.
Having jumped through these kinds of hoops quite enough back in my PS3 days:
Suddenly these days I don’t mind at all if the parts of some of my quest reward guns had somehow changed between my gaming sessions. “Start game, run 10 meters, check gun, exit game, repeat for ages instead of shooting things”. I still do that but if I don’t see something resembling good parts in about an hour or two I just give up. That’s not fun farming at all.
I actually did farm for my Bees, Sandhawks and Pimps, WAY back in the PS3 days… I also farmed Badabooms, then I got “gifted” Norfleets, but by then I’d stopped using launchers altogether >.<
Obviously not my Hides though, I’ve seen video proof of perfect Cobra and Twister drops but never a perfect Hide.
Six COMS, four Terra items, Pitchfork, I count 11 what did I miss? Then there’s the heads and skins ugh, but I don’t know if they bite into his unique pool drop, I’d assume so.
Edit: Unless you counted the quick change items (heads and skins) as the 12th drop?
This is an absurd number! Even today I play with OP8 players who have never seen or even heard of a Teeth or Breath of Terramorphous, of course there are a lot of “gifted” Hides and Bloods out there but perfect parts or not they’re among the least known and seen items in the entire game. You’d think he’d just have a 100% drop chance considering the hell you go through just to kill him, and how bloated his loot pool is… Remember when the odds of a drop were 1/30?
He had skins too? Oh god. Yes, they should count. I’m not sure if the 6 COM’s count though since he automatically drops one and I’m not sure if you roll into a loot pool drop can you get another? But if he had skins too and the coms are in the loot pool then it gets almost halved again: 0,000000325. Did Terra really have skins though?
Hmm good point, I guess I wouldn’t count them then as they’re guaranteed drops, never heard of Terra dropping two Slayers. So let’s assume they’re not in his actual loot pool consisting of his uniques, the heads and skins, and Pitchfork?
Yes, the pale pink set of skins, not the unicorn (Pink Pandoracorn) ones they’re paler, Maya’s is called “Lilac Combatant”
Oh cool. They weren’t listed on the wiki when I checked what all he had. So the final number with skins and no COMs would be 0.00000044 (still assuming I didn’t make any mistakes earlier as I just dug the old number up from my calc).
About 4,5 in ten mil odds of a perfect Hide from a Terra kill.
What absurdity that is lol. I’m all for rare loot and varying parts, but in a crowded loot pool that’s just ridiculous
Stuff like this is why I’m extremely interested in any possible solution that BL3 might have for being able to tinker with parts in game if we should still have a similar part system then.
I’d like that too, like a reforge option. Farming for gear is one thing, but at endgame perfect parts are everything and RNG takes its toll during the grinding process.
I totally agree with the idea that a parts shop of some kind should exist in BL 3. It just would add an additional element to the game so that a player could customize a drop to their particular needs/play style.
One of the fabulous things about BL two is the way your biuilds with skill points can be tinkered with. Adding a part shop would take the tinkering and customizing to a whole new level of interest and fun.
Oh and GB…PLEASE do away with underleveled drops in BL 3.
Nothing frustrates and break your heart more than farming for two hours to finally get that drop only to find that the weapon is two levels under your current level.
I don’t know what developer thought that that would be fun and challenging and a good idea. But it’s NOT…it’s that simple.
Sometimes, I scratch my head. I would think the idea is to make a game fun to play and interesting not frustrating and disheartening. LOL
I absolutely agree: having played Diablo 3 for years, I can say that the Mystic was a more than welcome new NPC.
Farming so rare items for perfect parts must be a nightmare: I myself haven’t ever seen a Hide drop, let alone a perfect one. More on that, I am convinced that not all parts have the same weight when the roll for selection happens: when I farmed any shield from quest rewards, most of the time it’d have Pangolin, Torgue, Bandit, Dahl or Tediore parts; less often Vladof, Anshin then Hyperion; Maliwan, expecially body and battery? you wish…
Definitely. There’s I think 11 possible capasitors a shield can have. 4 of these are elemental resistances. Yet seeing a shield with elemental resistance is extremely rare. That earlier number for getting a perfect hide doesn’t account for this, that’s just raw odds if everything was as likely. Throw that in and it might actually be as rare as winning a lottery to get this one particular shield to drop. Hard to say since it’s not clear how the parts are weighted.
Almost all my gear is farmed legitimately (although I did use a second player and dashboard to farm some quest rewards) EXCEPT for my perfect parts bees and hides of terra.
I tried for a long time on the hide until I saw the numbers and for my sanity chose to use gibbed. I also brought across some bees when I did so.
As for all the rest it’s all been obtained legit, although much of it is not quite perfect. However my suite of maliwan grip banbury pimps are all legit, all my sandhawks, lyudas (which could be way better) etc etc
All that being said I am a pretty big advocate for gibbed nowadays, even though I still don’t use it. After pouring that many hours into BL2 I don’t feel compelled to farm, I just want to have the item and play the game.
Everyone has to find a balance they are comfortable with.
And besides…your game…you paid for it…enjoy it how you want.
As long as you are not infringing on others…who cares.
I use “the software” for:
-
checking stats…to see how this particular piece matches up to max stats
-
Testing Purposes…the what if’s or does it do this or that
-
The Time Trials where you are competing against EVERYONE with PERFECT gear! But I don’t use that gear in normal play and it’s tossed as soon as I post my entry.
-
To check what gear is on my various mules as i never bothered to make a decent spreadsheet
-
Move gear between mules and characters easily. I mean Claptraps storage is just such a slow and awful way to share stuff.
-
Reset the arenas for additional play…Finks, Robot Slaughter, Creature Slaughter. I have NO IDEA why GB did not allow this from the get go…
The gear I play and coop with is all totally legit and acquired from drops or traded from folks who I trust.
Do I have some shady gear here and there? I’m sure I do, but at least not knowingly.
I had a Cobra at Level 50 long before GB fixed that drop. The guy who traded it to me SWORE it was legit…yeah, right…LOL But that didn’t stop me from playing with it so I’m no saint.
Let’s be honest, there are that many items and possibilities with parts, why wouldn’t you advocate it? Most people will never even see a Hide or a Twister, and what about farming pearlescents? UGH! You need perfect or near perfect gear to play the endgame, and you need excellent gear just to farm for that! If you ever want to play the game, sometimes you have to… Improvise. It happened in Borderlands 1 as well, and Diablo is well known for it.
Very true.
My favourite is 90% of ‘how to kill Hyperius’ videos use a norfleet - the item 90% of people are there to try and farm XD
I’m guilty of that lol
But that’s my second favourite, my #1 is Voracidous… Most people use Sal to fight him (obviously) and probably the best gun Sal can bring to that fight is the Interfacer… But where does that drop from? Hmm
I suppose OOO can drop it…
There are still so many ideas Borderlands can “steal” from Diablo 3…oh wow. I am biting my tongue as this thread isn’t the right place and would derail the topic.
I would LOVE to see seasonal characters and what not on BL3 for one. (And no, this has nothing to do with Season Pass).
