Okay, I get that you want it to mean what you want it to mean, but that doesn’t mean that it means what you want it to mean. I’d be very cautious about planning on feeling betrayed by my own expectations, that’s not going to bring much happiness.
I’m just trying to work out when GBx announced the purchase of the HW ip, and where that fits in the timeline of the wishlish. I imagine that many people would have been keen on a rerelease of the original game for a long time prior to that announcement- I know I was- and GoG would be a reasonable place to expect it crop up, being an old game. But how many people who signed it have now bought the remaster on steam? I have no idea how many, but that 36k has to be reduced to account for that, yes? Not everyone who signed is opposed to steam.
[/quote] If you wanna figure this out,you can use this link to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, it does feature GOGs wishlist entries! Just pick the date you are interested in and head over to the wishlist, everything wishlist-related seems to work fine! https://web.archive.org/web/20130315000000*/http://www.gog.com
Anyways, I can tell you that most of these votes are from the time before Gearbox acquired the rights!
But does this really matter? As they were one of the things that showed that there was a market for a Homeworld rerelease I´d even consider them worthier than votes that have been cast after the announcement: Before that announcement there was little to no hope and these fans were STILL voting -> they are the diehard fanbase!
To your second point: The wishlist isn´t that popular for folks who buy stuff on GOG for other reasons then the DRM-freeness! The wishlist isn´t that popular anyways, as many users didn´t believe in it till the System Shock II-rerelease and even after that point the contribution on it isn´t that high in general; as you can see if you take a look at how many/few votes System Shock II had!
Your post sounds cool in the beginning, talking about harmony and so on, but end up pretty ignorant: Basically you are just telling folks who do prefer “organic meats” over “industrial meat” or “Fair Traded Stuff” over “Traditional Traded Stuff” or “faux leather” over “leather from animals” to stop there campaigns! Trying to secure as many games from being DRM-exclusive is just the same as fighting for biological alternative of every type of food, trying to get companies to join fair trade organisations or getting fashion producers to search for alternative materials that don´t require animals to die for.
Personally, I don´t care for the last stuff, I find it rather irrelevant in comparision to the BioMovement, the FairTradeCampaigns or the DRMFreeMovement. But does this result in, accusing them beeing blinded/ fanboys/ whatsoever? No! I cannot really appreciate the advantage of the products they are promoting, but that´s no reason to dislike them/ telling them to stop, as it doesn´t hurt others!
That´s tolerance. And of course, as always tolerance does include intolerance against intolerance…
Have you already been editing/ deleting the rest of the posts? I do only see the two posts of emericablind and sond.
Although their opinions don´t match my opinions, I don´t find them too aggressive in comparison to the things going on on other forums! Maybe sonds one is not that nice, as it adds nothing to the discussion, but constructs a little bit of conflict potential in return, but well, it´s not that harsh…
Anyways, if you´ve been closing down threads all day I could of course understand your mood! But even if you interpret their posts as misbehavior, or if there were a few others you already deleted were misbehaving pretty badly it would be rather unfair and illogical to close this thread in return, as this would result in…
…a low chance that a Gearbox official will respond! (as locked threads doesn´t cause that much attention…)
…a punishment for those who DIDN´T show any kind of misbehavior!!
…encouragement for some trolls that just do want to take down thread, as they´d then know what to post to take a thread down without loosing their face!
You see, closing down the thread would be total counterproductive!
