@SirPrimalform: I am in no way suggesting that. The attitude I’ve seen on other posts on this forum, and slightly from this one is just that. I feel we should all be happy that we got a release AT ALL for this game, even if it is for one platform. It’s the same as people complaining about System Exclusives. I have plenty of games from GOG, and I wouldn’t have a care in the world otherwise if it were released on there. But the fact of the matter is, it was obviously a decision made at some point not to include GOG for one reason or another that I can’t be certain of.
Sounds very cynical to me,don´t you think so? It´s on the same level as telling an activist for fair trade to be glad that there is that sort of chocolate, that Jeans-Model, that electronic component at all!
You CAN say this, but it´s not very likely that the FairTrader would believe you are taking him serious…
Anyways, we should remember this post:
It´s not very likely that Psychichazard is very happy if we do continue this discussion…
@drmopponent I will not register my opinions on his choice of threats. As far as I, and the others are concerned, our comments are discussing the topic at hand, and are no way straying from it.
I’ve just noticed that there’s a wishlist entry specifically for Homeworld Remastered which now has over a thousand votes. Since it was known that the remasters were coming to Steam, it’s safe to assume those votes count for people who prefer GOG over Steam. 1000 doesn’t sound like much, but it’s quite a lot for a GOG wishlist entry to get in such a short space of time.
Groovy. That can’t be a bad thing.
Indeed. I really hope Gearbox work something out. Perhaps when Galaxy has launched properly?
Good to see this discussion can be had again.
I’ll just reaffirm my support for releasing on multiple platforms. GoG would be great when Galaxy is up and running fully.
edit. Maybe I should add specifically that I’m not opposed to Steam in and of itself. I just don’t think it should be the only place HW:R is made available.
I am aware of a few games that the developers have plainly been unable to accommodate for a gog release because of the multilayer. Even with Galaxy (Wasn’t available then) there would be extra time needed to be dedicated to implementing that kind of cross platform compatibility. Some games will just not have the developer time to do it (again for various unfortunate but very valid reasons)
If it is possible and it’s feasible I do hope GBX is able to do a gog release, more HW players is never a bad thing after all! But they are at the end of the day under 0 obligation to do a gog release as this thread insinuates at the start. I’ve seen some interesting arguments to try and force developers to make games available on gog that make this thread look like child’s play.
One thing that IS closely tied to steam though as far as I understand is the mod tools. It sounds like modding, especially MP friendly mods, are going to be very closely tied to the steam workshop. I do not know how that will work with a gog release and is something that might make a gog release (or at least a MP compatible release) unfeasible. Mods are going to be this game’s lifeblood, much like the originals so that will most likely be GBXs primary concern when it comes to releasing HWR on gog (though I obviously don’t speak for GBX
)
Only available from two places? That’s lame as hell.
Nice to see some participation going on. But not so sweet that there is still no sign of any comment by some Gearbox-Staff…
It’s been my experience when it comes to things as open ended like this a company would rather err on the side of no comment than make promises that would hurt future possibilities.
Again, just in my experience.
Edit: Like if they say yes they want to do a GOG release but it turns out to not be possible then they are going to get a horrendous amount of flak over it. If they say no but they find it possible later, same thing. It sucks but welcome to developer-customer relationships 101.
I agree. “No answer” includes still the possibility for a positive future answer.
Yeah, from a PR perspective, no comment is the way to go all the way until things are set in stone.
Very true if Gearbox wanna do traditional PR, which is usually nothing than “bad PR” today…
You mean PR that’s not going to get the sued? Yea very ‘bad PR’ that.
Would you rather they say they’re doing a GOG release now and then later say they can’t do it or say nothing now and later do a GOG release?
Nobody can get sued for “we are looking into it”, can they?
Jup, of course the later one would be the better one, but having a “We are looking into it”-post right now and a “Yes, we will do it!” later on would be cooler then both options, wouldn´t it?
Can we all agree that GOG is relevant now?

And with Galaxy up and running and supporting multiplayer with Steam versions, a GOG release would be a great way to increase the playerbase for multiplayer (and keep it unified).
Please?
Nice stuff:
I can only congratulate and say: Welcome on board.
