The only difference between Moze and Zane is that Moze has Lootsplosion and Cryo embued modifiers, while Zane’s are Lootsplosion and Corrosion embued - I wonder if it’s the Cryo mahyem modifier?
Edit: scratch that. If it was the mayhem modifier, turning cartels off would have made no difference.
The only thing I can think of that was truly different between the first run and the other two was that I purposely did NOT damage JMW until he was in the water, and then the first hit was cryo damage. I actually let him melee me a few times to encourage him to follow me into the water, after which craziness occurred. Also, some of the JMW copies seemed pretty immune to damage - had to break out the Yellowcake to clear up the infestation.
Wait are you saying the Nighthawkin didn’t get clones but a cryo Kaoson did? That might suggest certain weapons don’t work for getting the clones? Or did you mean something else?
So I think this is actually bugged. If my memory serves just letting it in the water allows it ti multiply. That doesn’t seem to happen now. Also, it appears certain cryo weapons work and others don’t. I previously tried with a cryo tran-fusion (I think) and also with the snowdrift otto idol snowball effect. Neither of those worked.
I just tried again with a cryo cloning hex and that does appear to be working. I also tried with a cryo kaoson like the above poster and that works as well. However, they aren’t spawning as rapidly as I remember them. I recall the last time I did this they got out of hand fast and this time it was really slow and I ended up killing them all on accident before more spawned. Also, no cartel mobs spawned.
This was the extent of my mogwai mayhem before they all died:
After looking at my haul I feel like the Oprah of ■■■■■■ snipers. You get a Malak’s Bane! You get a Malak’s Bane! You get a Monocle! You get a Monocle!

Night Hawkin could indeed be one issue:
But ‘day’ and ‘night’ have different times in different locations:
The other thought about this: My Moze did not use a Night Hawkin - I had an OPQ equipped when I got JMW to attack. But she has the chance to add incendiary damage. I think this is why it might have been not working the very first time I tried - I shot and added fire DoT before JMW entered the water, so that must have ‘turned off’ the effect. Second time I went up and didn’t shoot at all, then threw cryo grenades which it seems do not get the incendiary effect from Moze. Then Zane had pure cryo and I deliberately turned off the radiation beams from SNTL.
Tl;dr there are a lot of ways you can prevent this from happening (check your gear and skills!) but when it does work, oh boy!
Rates were adjusted in the March update that added the Steam-Epic matchmaking. That was the only mention of JMW I could find in any patch notes btw.
Yes I farmed for a little bit today. First time worked exactly as it should but 2nd time my Night Hawkin didn’t cause any new ones to spawn. Then I remembered about the night/day thing and switched to my cryo Soulrender and I got the spawns again.

I should try again with my Cryo Insider - that should be fun!
Sry for the late reply Sid but ya… Same with the achievment Popsicles. Nighthawkin would not work but the Kaoson did. Maybe something with Amara on my end… not sure. Damage possibly? I think @sure might have the answer.

Cryo Insider - easiest way to complete that challenge. Day and night at the villa are weird, so if that’s where you’re trying to get the challenge mostly done the Night Hawkin is not necessarily the best choice. Plenty of other decent cryo weapons though.
Yeah, I could see the Nighthawkin not working for the reason mentioned but I didn’t use that gun initially. Why wouldn’t it work with Snowdrift or a cryo grenade? That I still don’t understand.

Did you damage JMW before he went in the water in any way? As I mentioned above, that’s the only thing I could think of which was clearly different between my first Moze run and the others.
