yes, BitVenom seems does a great job of keeping us in the loop while being responsive to modder requests.
I honestly think your overselling this a bit.
As you and I discussed at length in the another thread, whilst ridiculously dedicated at what they do. The modders are in fact an incredibly small group of people in comparison to the overall player base.
So no one denies the stellar level of interaction thatâs occurring in that section of the forum. Just⌠wouldnât it would be as stellar for other 99% of us to feel as included in the conversation ?
It feels like people expect to be personally acknowledged every time they post a bug not just in the mega bug thread where theyâre supposed to post (and where the devs DO in fact post saying post more) but in their own personal threads too(regardless if itâs been posted before).
Seems a little entitled and egotistical to me but what do I know.
I know theres plenty of dev interaction in the technical issues forum thoughâŚ
Also the matter that the mod section is likely an authorized venue for the Devs to get very open about things, whereas things like bugs and features the PR machine would want to have a lot of say and control over that to protect Gearbox from potential conflict.
Something more like a âwhat were up to this weekâ type post would go a long way to keeping people in the loop for a game thatâs clearly not quite in its finished state yet.
Asking for a bit more communication doesnât make you an entitled egocentric. It just makes you human âŚThatâs what I know.
I can give a small bit of feedback/input here:
-
We talk in the Mod forum mostly because weâve committed to helping with tools and getting people up to speed. Itâs not about responding to complaints/backhanded praise/odd questions we canât answer, etc. Itâs just where we help. And we are allowed to help.
-
Some things (tech support, status of work) are either not for us to deal with (generally) - or things we donât talk about (making promises for things not done is not okay here). So we often have to say âwe hear youâŚâ and leave it until we get to say âhey thatâs fixed in this patch we just released!!!â. Itâs not negotiable - itâs how weâre allowed to be here (talking on a forum instead of a PR person) at all.
-
I am really happy with the degree of interaction weâre able to have in terms of Mod stuff - I was on a Skype call with Sastrei for 2+ hours, Iâve offered to help others and have a ton more to get out there (not to mention things to create to help these people).
-
I think this is an evolving process. We have more to talk about - indeed much more soon. And the dialog is 2 way, and will only get more active (and some would say transparent) as things go along. The gameâs 3 weeks (or so) old.
-
Every negative or sideways comment about Gearbox in general is really missing the point - spoken from a perspective thatâs often just wrong/misinformed or distorted. The point - is that those of âusâ on the forums talking are doing it because we want to, we like it. I pushed for the ability to talk as much as I do. Not because I have to. Iâm a very, very thick-skinned person (I sorta have to be given how loud and aggressive I can be) - so some scattered bad manners/attitude wonât sway me. But it certainly doesnât encourage interaction - which seems odd given thatâs often the complaint.
-
Plenty of questions will probably not be answered by anyone here:
â How much did you make? (hell if I know!)
â How big is the team? (more than the 4 posting here, changes every now and then)
â When is HW3 coming? (try again)
â When is patch X coming? (when QA says it is readyâŚ?)
Cheers!
This Devâs a legend.
I stopped reading that thing after I read:
I would prefer to see a dev/community manager/forum moderator thread, stickied, where the first post is reserved for a single list of bugs each with a link to itâs own thread for discussion. Status may be too much to ask if policy prevents transparency of that type. But expecting the devs or the community to comb through one of the ridiculous âMEGA THREADSâ to find if a bug is reported by full reading, search feature, or otherwise is inefficient.
This way there is a single thread that acts as an index to reported bugs where one can both see if one is already being reported and read the discussion around it.
For the sake of organization separate threads could be constructed for Multiplayer bugs, single player bugs, Balance discussion, technical issues, etc.
Each of the issues maintained in the first post could be updated with small informational items such as [Dev Responded/acknowledged] or [Fixed in version 1.01]. Resolved issues could be maintained in the thread with an N-1 visibility then moved to a Tracking Archive thread for version N-2 and back.
submissions to the tracking threads could be done by creating an initial post, preferably using a format such as [BUG] issue [Balance] issue [Feedback] feedback then linking the thread in a reply in the tracking thread.
This would not be hard at all to maintain. bi-weekly updates. would be plenty, but the more updated information the better.
I like where your headâs at, @ratamaq. Not to promise anything here, but this is something Iâll be mulling over. In the mean time, I would reiterate @Jeffybugâs request to submit bugs to support. Thatâs a much more robust infrastructure when it comes to keeping up with that sort of thing and it really does make the process easier. Good ideas for sure!
For all your bug reporting needs (in case you didnât see it above): support.gearboxsoftware.com
Thanks @joekgbx. Let me know if I can help
BTW, The first time, and just now when trying the link above I landed on the zendesk page which had a link to support.gearboxsoftware.com in the instructions for submitting feedback. Unfortunately that link is a redirect back to gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com and zendesk doesnât have an SSL cert from gearbox on their front end, or have it but didnât install it properly. This means users are presented with a cert mismatch error. To fix this either correct the link on the landing page with the instructions to gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com (instead of support.gearboxsoftware.com) or have your web/infrastructures guys work with the zendesk guys to get one of your certs installed on their servers.
This way good users who donât continue on to untrusted sites donât stop before submitting feedback, and security guys like me donât get our panties in a bunch
I like wat BitVenom says and I find it good that you guys talk on the mod section of homeworld and help the modding community to get started and thats great! I just want to say that you guys dont give a lot of answers on the multiplayer beta forum.
The beta is almost a month out so I myself as a customer and a lot more people like me that bought this game for the multiplayer would like to hear your thoughts on where you guys think its going to go to and what issues you are going to tackle in the coming weeks. If you are more open in whats coming it gives us something to look forward to, instead of waiting in the darkness until finally a patch arrives and then its just stability fixesâŚ
I know these things take time but the longer u keep us in the darkness, I fear that the multiplayer community will not have reached its potential that was there.
Check it out!
Thanks @ratamaq
To the devs:
Can we get those threads pinned perhaps? It makes it a lot clearer imoâŚ
Copy that, @ratamaq. Edited my above post to direct to the main support page. Thanks!
@apalliser: pinned @Burlyâs patch update thread for you. That should also address your question(s) regarding the MP beta, hopefully.
@joekgbx Yikes! you understood my post backwards. Itâs not gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com that is the problem. Linking directly to that is fine. Its the URL support.gearboxsoftware.com that is the problem. It redirects to gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com.
So see, when someone enters in or clicks on the url support.gearboxsoftware.com, their browser is expecting the server that responds to carrier a certificate (like and I.D.) that says âyes I am support.gearboxsoftware.com, and here are my credentialsâ The problem is the server that actually responds, is a zendesk.com server and does not have a certificate for gearboxsoftware.com.
so your original link was fine, itâs the link one that page that instructs users to go to support.gearboxsoftware.com that is the problem. Changing it to gearboxsoftware.zendesk.com is the easy fix, getting a gearboxsoftware.com cert on the zendesk.com server is the hard (but technically better if you want to use the url support.gearboxsoftware.com) fix.
Make since? the link sends you a page that has the following text:
Submitting Feedback for Homeworld Remastered

If you would like to submit feedback, comments, or suggestions to the Homeworld Remastered team, weâd love to hear it! Please submit a ticket at https://support.gearboxsoftware.com and in the âGame Issueâ drop-down box choose âSuggestionâ and your feedback will be shared with the team.
and the quick fix without going through all the hassle of having your web/infra team request a new cert from your cert provider, export it, send it to zendesk and have them install (if they even support this) would be to just change the text on the linked page to:

No, I gotcha!
Iâts a good thing the folks at Gearbox are responsive to there community. âButâ responsive to those they deem important enough to respond to. I could keep going, but I wonât.
Thankâs for your time âBITâ
Feel free to PM me about this, @NOSOCOM4. Seriously. I want to hear your thoughts!
