This is going to be a hot take after I played the main campaign of the DLC all in one sitting last night. Disclaimer: Ive done no side missions yet!

  1. I LOVED Gaige. She was my main in BL2 and they really made her so pretty and less squeaky and a little more mature. She is the perfect side NPC in the DLC. Also she had the most touching part in the whole thing when she thought Deathtrap had died; I wasn’t expecting to get emotional but I did (still doesn’t hold a candle to Tiny Tina DLC feels though)

I kinda feel like they made Deathtrap smaller than in BL2 though, and I was waiting to hear his signature sound he made or for him to do an explosive clap but it seems like they made a new smaller model and gave him new sounds (could be that I missed some though)

  1. The locations were mostly cool. I love the lovecraftian vibe + ice planet. It wasn’t utilized as much as I was hoping though. I loved the sacrifice ritual at the beginning; I was hoping to see more of that kinda thing, but that was the only case I saw

The new fighter NPC who befriends those who fight him is very likeable, that whole section reminded me of the forsworn in Skyrim. I enjoyed running around with Hammerlock too, felt like Big Game Hunt 2.0 mini

  1. Bosses were actually aggrivating. Gearbox can you please cool it with invincibility phases? It felt like every single boss, once I did 25% of its health, would become immune and I’d have to wait or do some silly task to enter next phase. I miss the days where I could come in with strong enough gear and mow down a boss in 8 seconds as he was spouting his first taunting voiceline

  2. Speaking of bosses: The final boss was a pretty big letdown. Ever since I heard the DLC and saw the trailer, I was hoping for a lovecraftian cthulhu tentacle monster. But we got a stationary puzzle heart…Even some kind of big beast would have been enough for me…something eldritch…

  3. Squidward Snape bartender was one of the few things that made me laugh out loud, very well done writing

  4. The wedding ceremony taking place in the quiet bloody heart chamber…I would’ve chosen differently. I was looking forward to a big packed reception building where all the NPCs or a lot of them from the game like Ellie, Tannis, Marcus, Tina, etc were all there partying.

But the only character that came along was Claptrap…I would’ve been a lot happier if some more NPCs we loved were there
Final notes:

  • I loved hearing about Claptrap’s little side adventure he went on to get the pearl of ineffable knowledge. Let us play through THAT. I wanna go to the “lair of unending agony and fight through the dimension of unknown colors and undefinable shapes” or whatever

  • I finally realized, researching online, that Hammerlock is black which is a little bit of a surprise. Ever since Borderlands 2 I thought he was an aboriginal Australian, or just one with a really dark tan like some of them have.

This was further supported in my mind by looking at his sister Aurelia in The Pre Sequel who doesn’t look black in the slightest. This is all meaningless though anyway and I just thought it was funny Ive seen him a certain way for all these years and suddenly I find out I was wrong.

That’s it, thanks for reading! I look forward to Dinosaurs and Cowboys  PS - GB please give us a clue when Mayhem 2.0 is dropping, I feel zero urge to grind for gear now since it will be obsolete in probably a week
