He’s a strong anti tank. In normal gameplay he’ll see more use once drafting is implemented. Also, the death of Toby and Pendles

Uh… content mods… serious question… how dirty can I get on these forums? I’ve got real, REAL dirty details on this, but… uh… it’s not exactly… well… back to my question… how dirty can I get on these forums?

I love whiskey, but the only setup where I think he’s the perfect pick is against a miko/Montana combo. Pretty much every other situation there’s a character I’d rather have instead.
I find a lot of extremely effective Toby players only use the shield to play mind games or by putting it in a safe place to accelerate their team who pass through it. Pretty much anyone with any range whatsoever can shut down a sniping Toby.

Really? Even against a Kleese?
I’d disagree. He has similar helices but rather level 10 is a game changer. And OM is the true king IMO
Ooh Kleese too, good call.

He’s the ONLY guy with a ranged wound (able to wound either 3 people or destealh+boost weapon damage) and the best dps a non melee can have and a pretty reliable ranged slow.
That’s something at least.

Damn.
Alright @legendoflink2288, you heard the man. No more details.
And it’s a shame too.
I had visual aids for this one…

The only truly effective uses of the force field are a) to accelerate shots and b) protect yourself while running.
Toby is a incredible lane suppression hero. He’s gonna need his force field to do his job best, which means that he isn’t giving it to others who are in bad positions for his force field to last.

His job… Is that killing players or minions? Because for killing minions, he def doesn’t need his force field and the force field won’t even make killing minions easier by that much.

Except it does, lol. By far. Before 7, Toby’s sluggish, unaccelerated shots are terrible for wave clear.
And for killing players, it is INVALUABLE.

But that’s why you have 2 mines and focus your shots on Sherpard. The slow shots are easy to hit on minions, and the charge time is the same. Which means you just shoot as fast. The damage is lower if ya took the Lvl one right helix, but it doesn’t really change his wave clear ability by that much.
Before level 7, I NEVER 100% rely on shooting for wave clear. I rely on those mines. After 2 minutes having two mines in 1 use of the skill. And reaching level 4 to get the slowing mines is so easy, level 4 will be reached extremely fast.
Killing players is possible if you shoot at the right moment and the right place when the enemy is not looking at you. When the enemy is paying attention to you, yeah the player will avoid the shot.
IMO, you are really understimating the slow shots. It kinda sucks to not have a shield, but you don’t become useless all of a sudden.
Ppl gotta be derpin pretty hard to leave the unmissable shield up for more then a fraction of a second. Even if it’s “well hidden,” the colour is easily spotted when people are specifically looking for it. The size of his attacks also makes it so you can’t cheese shots through a tiny gap in a wall such that there’s really no terribly effective way to place the shield offensively where it’ll survive and allow you more than one or two shots through it if you’re lucky. Fine as a finisher but unreliable as a permanent strategy without playing waaaaaaaay back, which isn’t an option on some maps. Playing perma-sniper on Toby also self-negates the effectiveness of his toolkit unless some melee decides to be ballzy enough to let you Double Hug their face. At long-range, unable to mine minions for xp, Toby’s xp scaling can fall behind as well.
He still hits like a truck even with unaccelerated shots and their AoE is sufficient to make them a pain to deal with. I see too many Toby peeps using the shield as a crutch and pretty much not doing anything without a shield up to shoot through.

Before 4, Toby’s waveclear without forcefield is lackluster. Double hug is also inadvisable period, so that’s out of the equation.
Believe me, I know how to lead without forcefield. And I’m not saying forcefield is necessary at all. But without having it up, Toby’s kill potential is hurt to a noticeable degree.
