Toby makes another EXTREMELY provocative moaning sound, then jumps back with a yelp as Whiskey takes a half-hearted swipe at him with his knife.

My main thing about Benedict being nerfed like this is just the fact that his evil twin Ernest is continuing to just cheese things. Again the main problem really isn’t the damage he can do himself, it’s the gear you strap onto him that make things bad. Gauntlet+“Air Mail” the latter of is a constant cooldown reduction btw.
And I was thinking in the back of my head, “■■■■, he doesn’t even need Culling anymore.”
Galilea’s nerfs weren’t even nerfs, that pull needs to be changed to something other than lvl 1. That range increase needs to be tweaked. But nope, Benedict can fly and hawkeye can 1v5 teams, nerf to the ground. “Knee Jerk” would be a quick, often unwarranted response to something being hit (like at the doctors when you are getting a check up, the doc taps your knee with the rubber to make sure your reflexes work properly).Gearbox skimmed an inch above and “El Dragoon” nerf for Benedict this time.

They nerfed the range, but with the health buff he got, you still see Kleese (support characters) bold enough to chase down the characters that are supposed to be doing the chasing/attacking.
Benedict the best character in the game? I suppose El Dragoon pre-nerf, Boulder pre-nerf (who was nearly impossible to kill btw and regened himself for like 81% with his 35 secondish ult recharge rate AND damage reduction from Rage), Current Galilea and Ernest were garbage and aren’t meta whatsoever.
These are scaled back buffs, not so much nerfs. Benny is still buffed compared to release.
I’m just going to be blunt: you main one of the characters that Gearbox handles with kid gloves. This hotfix only proves that point. It toned down buffs Benedict never needed to begin with, but it didn’t take him below his day one baseline.
I never said it changed his current role. You stated the devs left him the way he was, which was an erroneous exaggeration
Meta doesn’t mean best, it means the general comp used by the top teams that are all strong and work well together for good reason. But they don’t have to be particularly strong. As long as the top teams think so they are meta.

The word “Meta” has a variety of definitions in gaming. It’s used primarily in the competitive portion of the game. Meta does include strong characters, composition and/or strategies that is well used by a great amount
of the gaming community.
Ernest does need a well deserved nerf. The meta composition in Incursion is normally “Benedict, Galilea, Ernest and Orendi” add any healer or any other character as the fifth member (It doesn’t really matter)
I hope Benedict gets nerfed again when the update comes. He owns monuments and most meltdown maps.
I’m no Benny main but I would say I’ve had my fair amount of games with him to say that, IMO, these nerfs are both reasonable. The damage nerf was obvious but I can understand why the HP reduction
Benny can still do lots of things that give him an advantage over some of the other characters. He has great mobility with his double jump and can gain serious height advantages (I’m looking at you, Paradise and Monuments) where most pure melee characters can’t even touch him. He also has an easy escape provided he doesn’t get CC’d, but a good player will know how to position themselves safely. As soon as Benny is in the air, any pure melee character is going to struggle. Ranged characters can deal with his liftoff a little bit better but once again, a good Benny player will know how to mix up his flight pattern, making him sometimes very frustrating to hit. The health loss, I assume, is just to make it easier for close range characters to deal with him instead of him flying out of reach.
I feel like Benny needs to be played a little more tactically now, as of running the risk of getting CC’d and killed, to compensate for his health loss. Max health gear will also help counter Benny’s nerf a little.
If one were to play him like that, as I and many other good Benedict’s do, then that is how he is supposed to feel AND play. You’re not supposed to be near the melee characters, Benedict, despite what he looked like with his health bar before, was already squishy. Melee characters eat bad Benedicts up in about a second. Deande and Galiliea Especially. There are a few Rath’s that can do it, but honestly that is how how he, and a lot of Pushers are meant to be played. You stay out of the melee characters range because you’re waiting for those opportunities to capitilize on those Mikos who pocket on Galileas to die, then leap in when she’s mortal with your team to help finish her and then chase after squishies who just realize they’re in trouble.
If one of my main group could probably attest to this, and I say it outloud while seeing who the other team has picked, I will say “Whelp, staying away from Galiliea” All the birds (Tobi, Benedict and Ernest) are glass cannons capable of pushing out major damage, but are relatively squishy and easy to kill given the right knowledge how to kill them. As someone who has like 200 hours under my belt with Benedict alone, unless I do something really bad or just can’t get away from them, melee characters are my rare deaths.
And as far as liftoff is concerned, it is meant as your escape, coupled with level 5’s mutation of divebomb, once masteredon how to double-jump to cancel the landing animation, I’ve had runs of 25+ and 0 deaths because you can get across the map with a press of the offhand melee button. There’s a lot of complication to this character and while the nerfs WILL get rid of some of the people playing him just barely, the good Benedict players will still be able to play around him.
The major point of this post is trying raise Ernest awareness since he and that blasted egg are busted sideways.
I played Benedict for five matches after the nerf and went a total of 45-3.
An effective nerf, presumably, would reduce the ability of Benedict to do this sort of thing on a regular basis.
Granted, I want to say you are the second best Benedict player I’ve ever met. This nerf should only slow you down slightly but deter the idiots out there that think they are the best battleborn players ever because they can get some lucky hawkeye kills.
