Launcher runs, click on MPBeta or HW2RM and nothing happens

No error messages are displayed. None.

Launcher runs fine, all the buttons seem to work, but when I click on any there’s the usual “beep” and then nothing.

I have verified the files, and am now in the process of re-installing completely.

My hardware btw

3770K
GTX 980Ti
16GB RAM
Plenty of disk space…

Ran fine previously with an AMD GPU, but with horrid graphical glitches - all the units were partially transparent - now I’ve upgraded… nothing works

The transparent ships glitch your mentioned was just the catalyst screen overlay running. Turning the overlay off would’ve sufficed to fix the issue.

That was with the previous GPU… now I can’t run the game at all…

Try just running the HWRM exe directly.

Ah ha!

Now I get an error message… “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b), click OK to close the application”

OK, so searching says Virus checker or msvcp110.dll

I’ve tried replacing the msvcp110.dll and the virus checker didn’t stop it working three weeks ago

So, I tried un-installing the C++ libraries and re-installing them from the links on one of the Gearbox troubleshooting pages…

Tried re-installing the physX driver…

Tried re-installing the game with no mods…

Tried -nolauncher, -onethread…

Tried running the HomeworldRM.exe directly, as admin, in compatibility mode, in compatibility mode as admin…

The only thing left that people have suggested is reinstalling windows… which seems insane

This is more of a general windows error that can happen with many applications. Check out this link:

The ‘dependency checker’ solution sounds like a great idea.

Maybe disable virus checker for a minute. Could also Reinstall graphic drivers and directX.

Thought I’d said that I’d tried disabling the virus checker… I have.

This is a new GPU so I updated the graphics drivers on install.

I’ve tried the dependency walker and it’s decided that there are millions of missing files

There are an awful lot of API-MS-WIN-CORE-* dll entries listed as missing according to dependency walker.

I can’t re-install directX as far as I know I’m on windows 10 and it’s integrated… so can’t un-install and MS don’t do downloads for it now…

I’ve re-installed every .NET thing by re-installing Visual Studio 2015…
I’ve tried re-installing all the C++ redestributables…

Nothing. No change.

I’m not sure that Win10 includes the ddl from older versions of directX (I could be wrong though)

You should try installing this : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
It will install all directX9/10/11 related files.

I’ll give that a go…

tried manually registering the dll files that are listed as having problems but regsvr32 /u winmmbase.dll generates an error saying that the entry point DllUnregisterServer was not found… I’m starting to think that a re-install might be needed :frowning:

DirectX done… no change (though Saints Row IV works now)

Since you switched from an AMD to Nvidia GPU, its possible the AMD drivers didnt uninstall correctly. Id first uninstall the Nvidia drivers, then try using tools that completely rip out both AMD and Nvidia drivers (the regular AMD uninstal process has been known to leave things behind). Heres the AMD tool:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx

Then reinstall the Nvidia drivers clean. This has caused me trouble in the past.

If thats not it, its prolly faster to just reinstal windows at this point as this issue could appear on other applications too.

This may well be what it was… possibly - I couldn’t see any AMD processes in the taskmgr but… who knows. In the end I did a full Windows reset - which took half a day on its own because it decided that I wasn’t going to be allowed to do that for a while… when reset it all worked.

Incidentally going from an AMD 7950 to a Nvidia GTX 980 Ti, and from a 1080p monitor to a 4K monitor makes this game look all of the glorious…

–Problem solved-- Summary: Fixed by windows reset, root cause not totally tracked down, likely GPU driver issue.
