I haven’t had a lot of time to play yet, but I certainly like the system and the game. I haven’t tested it out in handheld mode yet, but the graphics are clean and the controller feels solid. Motion sense is extremely precise, and the buttons have a pretty satisfying click. The traditional controller set up, with the little remotes snapped into the grip, feels a little small, but not cramped. The control sticks have very little dead zone in them, typical of handheld systems, and it makes them very snappy directionally but hard to be precise when aiming. Luckily the motion sense allows you to fine tune your aim pretty easily. Set up was a breeze, super simple. It didn’t seem to struggle with the gorgeous and detailed graphics in BotW, but I haven’t given it a lot of particle effects to deal with simultaneously yet either.
Initial impression is very positive.

My god, the desert area… sah good
Trials are the best thing they could have added to Zelda.
I’m also really loving the Trials. And the game in general. It is just an endless adventure.
One of the most impressive things to me so far is breaking and taming horses. I haven’t gone out to find a horse with top stats yet, but I have one with good speed and stamina. Fighting from horseback is difficult, but gives you a huge advantage.
Played the Switch in handheld mode last night. It was nice, the size and weight were good. It was a little warm from being in TV mode for admittedly hours, but it cooled down pretty quickly. The screen is beautiful, looks crisp. I didn’t play it very long, so I didn’t get a good test of the battery. Still giving the system a big thumbs up.

The first and only horse I had I left somewhere in the middle of some trees and a rock… Idk if he’s still there but I’m not coming back for it.
I’m just running around and shield surfing everywhere. Every teen feet in the game there’s something to do… like… geezus.
Just finished my second dungeon now.
I think battery life when playing Zeldo in handheld is 2.5 - 3 hours. Which is more than my ps4 controller can say.

I have to say, at least with Zelda it is best to play with the traditional controller setup. Either in TV mode or with the system on its kickstand. I tried it with the free Switchblade style, and it was hard to do. And there are so many Trials that require motion control, playing handheld doesn’t pan out either. Which is fine by me, I’m a traditionalist.
I still haven’t even found the first true dungeon yet. lol I got to Kakariko and talked to Impa, and she marked four points on my map which may or may not be them. But I haven’t gone and looked; I’ve just been cruising around, making my way to the towers that fill in the map and hitting up whatever shrines/camps I find along the way. I’ve maybe been to 1/3-1/2 of the areas one time.
It’s hard to describe just how ridiculous this game is. (in a good way, of course)
Those 4 marks are the true dungeons. I’ve been meandering toward one of them. But mostly I’ve been exploring and hunting Shrines. Side quests are super addictive too.
This is just one of those games that you can just play for hours, not accomplish anything significant, and yet have so much fun doing it.
For anyone who has made it to Zora’s Domain, do you know where I can find the Zora pants? I have the other 2 pieces and want the set.
I figured those would be them. I forgot though, she told me to go recall four of my memories? or something like that. I found one cruising around by the Lanayru Promenade but that’s it.. Also ran into a Lynel near that same spot, got completely destroyed by him. lol
That is the truth though. I feel like I’ve hardly done anything story related, yet I’ve done so much and been to so many places.
I did make it to Zora’s Domain on Saturday, didn’t go back though so I have no idea on that.
I’m at that same Lynel! I failed once at beating it last night before I went to bed but I’m determined to beat it tonight. I held out pretty well, got it down to about 1/3 health while learning how to fight it. I found at the very end that you can mount it while it is stunned, I suppose to do additional damage. Maybe we can break and tame it like a horse LMAO
As for that other thing, I found that same memory last night. I found another near a lake in Central Hyrule. Impa only required me to find one of them, but you have to find all 12 to finish that main quest.
There is a clue written on an old block in Zora’s Domain that will lead you to another piece of the Zora Armor set.

Did you guys catch all the chicken for that guy? best sidequest.
I’m up to the last of the four dungeons. Just doing shrines and farming atm.
Anyone know how to make an elixir/food that gives you high level heat reduction?
Everything I’ve made is low level. I’m at a loss.
Finished my first dungeon, the Zora one, since it was the only one in an area I had been to and could access easily. Funny enough, while I was there I found a side quest for a female Zora asking me to take a picture of a Lynel.
So I climbed the mountain where he was and whooped his a**. Of course, I got destroyed a couple times while learning his attack patterns, but I came out victorious. Got a nice stockpile of shock arrows from him and all the ones stuck in the trees around there.
Finished the night up in the Lost Woods; I was too tired to make my way through the second part.
I haven’t found a recipe for heat reduction food; I need to figure that out as well so I can climb up in the volcanic regions.

I just ran up there and ate an assload of food to heal myself, plus there’s a shop there that sells fire resistant armor to make life easier.
Fire resistant armor you say? Where?!. Also, while we’re at it, is there one for cold? I have a top piece that provides some resistance, but I still need to eat food along with it to get full immunity.

clothes store in death mountain, just follow the quest icon there to get to the town, it’s at the back just before the quest icon. I think around 3000 rupees all up for the set
For cold, no idea. I just use a sword that’s on a fire, raises body temp or light a torch… but that’s hard to do if you’re constantly climbing with it.
Ha, of course you gotta get cooked running up the fiery mountain to get to the fire-resistant clothes.. XD Thanks for the tip though!
Ahhhh, I didn’t even think of that but I remember seeing someone mention that you could do that. I got a top piece that resists cold, I think I bought it at one of the shops. But it only provides mild resistance; hopefully I can complete the set and be immune.. I wanna explore without having to worry.

Having 13 hearts plus 5? temp hearts for some it and a assload of food helped, plus ignoring every enemy on the way haha
My horse has been missing for 3 days now, I probably should have registered it. I don’t know where I left him.
Nice, I’m only at like 8 or 9 hearts. That would probably help though.
I registered one or two horses, but they were in some of the earlier locations so I don’t think I can use them where I’m currently at. I’ll look into all that eventually. lol
You can go to any stable to teleport a registered horse to you. For cold areas, simply equip a fire rod if you have one, Wizrobes are bastard enemies though lol.
I beat the Zora Divine Beast last night, it was actually pretty tricky but I figured it out. I was feeling a little under powered going in, but coming out I have much better gear now lol. I’m going to head to the southeast of Hyrule tonight just to explore, as that is the majority of what I have been doing.
Side note, it takes 13 heart containers to pull the Master Sword from its pedestal. I’m still working my way to it, I can exchange some of my extra Stamina to get 11 atm.

Did not know that about the horses, thanks! Though I must say, even when I am riding one, it’s usually not for very long since he can’t climb like I can. lol
I got stuck once or twice in the dungeon, but it wasn’t too bad overall. I’m just about to get to my second one (Gerudo); pretty sure I’m right outside of it. Btw, something I learned and thought was very cool: when you’re going through the desert, you take heat damage during the hot parts of the day and cold damage during the night! I was impressed.
I did see something about that. I got to the Korok Forest and tried to get it, but I’m only at 10 hearts. No biggie though, I have a ton of awesome weapons and they just keep coming.
