For me the ergonomics of the PS4 controller are important and what brought me to the PS4. Playing on other controllers starts to hurt due to an old hand injury, but on the PS4 controller I can play much more comfortable for much longer.
My opinion: Always buff. Never nerf. (number crunches are alright since they’re not really nerfs, they’re stopping excessive numbers and keeping things equal across the board.)

This! So much this! It is always better to buff something instead of nerfing, especially in a PvE game. There are instances where nerfs are needed, like the Bee, which in my opinion just should have been removed from BL2 like a month after the game released, but those “no other way” scenarios are rare in a game like Borderlands.

I decided to just make a new topic since I’ve been theory crafting and wanted to go in-depth with the breakdown.
This is what I’m planning on building toward at this stage - Master of Maya's Amara build

For this Amara build you should be seeing elemental effects everywhere, seriously. With the use of the augments I circled, Deliverance and Stillness of mind, Kill 20 enemies and you have 20 stacks of rush which is 60%~ (not including Awakening) buff to element chance
and a 24%~ buff action skill damage. And Conflux is not where I’d like it to be, so I’m hoping on boosting it up by 5 via a Class Mod.
I’m pretty sure using phasecast right off the bat will get you stacks and not consume any. So start off the fight with phasecast and let Deliverance put in the work along with a chance to electrocute or melt that enemy with every enemy you apply an elemental effect to because of Conflux, and Wildfire has a chance to spread any elemental effect. Then Stillness of Mind applies, use a Maliwan sniper, which From Rest will boost charge time by 78%, to charge snipe an enemy out the air, guaranteeing an effect, which has an increased chance to ricochet off the enemy due to Indiscriminate, and Catharsis should be hitting nearby enemies (which probably means more elemental effect chance :D). Remnant should be popping out of every-kill you get and which I assume can also apply the effect of your action skill. When you use your action skill again the effect chance should be 60%~ higher so, like I said, elemental effects everywhere. Oh, and don’t forget Avatar
The reason for me not using Ascendant is because I don’t think it helps Stillness of Mind that much by keeping enemies in the air for 0.75 seconds after hitting one.
I’m hoping on boosting, at least Conflux by a Class Mod to get it to 6/5.

…I don’t think you understood Stillness x Ascendant.
Stillness stuns enemies who have been hit for 6 seconds OR til they take damage.
With Ascendant, they stay stunned even for 3/4 of a second after being hit. So it’ll stay in place even after hitting it. That’s the difference between one crit and 5 sometimes

I know everything you just said, i just don’t think 75 milliseconds is useful.

A new build from me: The Phasetank
It is basically a build that tries to juggle the different effects related to the Action Skill by having as little downtime as possible and gets most survivability out of those effects. This build only works if “Avatar” starts the Action Skill Cooldown after the first activation and let’s us use the second Action Skill while the Cooldown is running without it stopping.
Although not invested into the “Fist of the Elements” tree at all, this build profits from elemental weaponry as applying a DoT grants “Rush”-stacks. Mathematically the amount of “Rush” stacks is much more important than the 30% effectivity I loose out on, so “Awakening” is indeed not needed.
Beware: The way I spent points in the “Brawl” tree might seem strange, but I am accounting for the changes seen at GuardianCon, which makes “One with Nature” a tier 4 skill and “Samsara” a Tier 2 skill. As I got differing results on the amount of skill points to spent (I saw a Moze with a skill point from level 3 and Zane and Amara without it), I will go with the lower amount for now. The single point wouldn’t change much anyways. I would spend that point on “Guardian Angel” to get the most tankieness out of it.
Samsara is a key skill for survival: I try to go with either “Reverberation”, “Deliverance” or “Tandava” although the latter might have too long of a cooldown time. Thanks to “Restless” it should be possible to have all the “post-Action-Skill” bonuses running almost permanently. After “Restless” there should be only 20 seconds of cooldown left for “Deliverance” and “Reverberation”, making it a downtime of only 2 seconds per round if timed correctly. If I use my Action Skill efficiently I should basically always have at least 6% health regen on top of permanent health regen from other skills and damage reduction, I should be the tank among tanks.
This build can also use “Soul Sap” as primary augment to further tank incoming damage or use “Stillness of Mind” to control the battlefield, but the latter can screw with the timing of your bonuses, so be cautious of that.
As elemental augment there isn’t much choice, but Shock and Corrosive should be enough to be efficient against normal mobs. And if fire damage is needed, there is always gear that does the job.

Nice build but you say you would regenerate 6% of you health but I when I look at the build, it actually looks like you would regen 5% at the most when both skills are activated, unless I’m not understanding.

“Samsara” as a skill stacks so to keep up 6% health Regen, I just need to hit 2 people with an Action Skill consistently enough, which shouldn’t be too hard to do.

Joke build here – I wanted to see if I could get to lvl 50 without increasing my elemental, gun or melee damage, and avoiding kill skills wherever possible. The result?
Who’s Moxxi? Amara Build
With this kind of a build, the obvious choice of action skill & augment is… drum roll please: Phasegrasp and Soul Sap. Obviously we must choose Corrosive (Blight Tiger) for shielded, flesh enemies, and Fire (Soulfire) for shielded, armored enemies, avoiding the use of shock at all costs (except against enemies that resist it). If you’ll allow me some gear speculation, I would go for a Grounded Pangolin shield, the default grenade, a lvl 0 starter pistol, and a common health regen COM. I’m far too timid to punch anything, either!
The funny thing? With this spec, I think it would be really, really hard to die even as it is nearly impossible to actually kill anything. I always wondered what it would feel like to be an absolute bullet sponge!

Well, that’s one way to ruin a boss’s day. Hard to kill the enemy when they regen as much as 5% of their HP per second and can resist their choice of Fire, Corrosive or Shock damage.

I love the idea, like…
Boss: “O ■■■■, die already, your bullets barely tickle”
Amara: “Well, I’m not even trying, but you don’t seem to do much on me either”
An hour later:
Boss (thinking): “It slowly begins to burn. All those tickles start to burn and that ■■■■■■ siren still doesn’t even seem to feel my attacks. Guess, I’ll die a slow and painful death”.

Is Amara action skill default element is shock (Shockra)? When I try to change it to Blight Tiger (Corrosive) or Soul Fire (Incendiary). I can’t seem to get it back to Shockra.
This is in the interactive skill tree in the borderlands site.
