no they are not man, they are full 3d models, borderlands 2 did the same thing.
it would be impossible to photo shop 1 billion 3d models into 1 billion 2d pictures, as every weapon with a different part would need a different picture.

OKAY! We’ve gone far enough off topic. We’re not discussing the 3d vs 2d rendering of items. You have said your piece and we’ve said ours on that subject. We’re talking about bank space. Let’s get back on topic!

copy and paste the link above, for some reason, it wont link it properly.

but yeah, rendering 3d models will kill performance after it reaches a certain threshold, and that is why every borderlands game has had a strict inventory limit.
and that’s why i doubt they will go through all the work required to fix this and add more inventory space, they would most likely create a workaround. as fixing it at it’s core would require modifying and editing some of the core systems, which is a very daunting thing to do as a single misstep could break the entire game.
the only thing i could see them doing in the short term is adding multiple vault pages, where it only renders one page at a time, but i’m not even sure if that’s within the technical limits of the inventory system.

I’m assuming you are playing b2 on PC right? Not a console where you had an amazing 256MB of ram available?

Ok, couple of things:

  1. D2 only lets you carry a maximum of 10 items per slot (so a total of 80 if you are completely full, which never happens).
  2. These items have set models (meaning you can’t get 2 of the same piece with a completely different look) and do not vary at all.
  3. The items have very small 2d images and are called into memory when you inspect them, and there is a delay in loading.
  4. Many of the things (boots, gloves, shoulders, etc…) Are not very complex

In short, they are very different inventory systems and the Borderlands 3 one is way more complex.

On console they are 2d images. I don’t game on PC anymore but I just looked at I them to check something someone else said regarding the legendary drop rates on the older games.

on any platform they are 3d models, have you not read any of the links i have posted? have you not done any research about this conversation? THEY ARE! 3d models. i’m not debating with anybody whether they are or aren’t, because it is a fact that they are 3d rendered in real time.

I just read your post, I didn’t see a link. I did look at it today, this morning and yesterday and they look like static images.

There were not that many gun parts built into unique models (like in 3) so I don’t see how it wouldn’t be a pic.

an dude do you even play destiny? it allows you to carry 9 items per slot, plus what ever you have equipped, and you get completely full all of the time. borderlands 3’s inventory isn’t more complex because it’s more deep, it’s more complex because it has been made unnecessarily complicated, they over complicated it.
and he was talking about vault size in D2, not inventory size, where you can indeed, hoard 100’s of weapons and gear.

what? you lost me. did you just say borderlands doesn’t have very many gun parts that change the look of the gun? are you serious? LMFAO! every single part changes the look of the gun! go watch videos talking about how to identify what parts a gun has by looking at them.
in BL3, you can literally view the guns and it will show you what parts are what.

I’ve just had the same happen. Console version and all my legendary items (level 50) including the amazing Siren mod I managed to get while farming with FL4K… gone!! I hope they come back too :cold_sweat:

So, 9 plus what you’re equiped with… What does that equal mate. 9+1 is…?

I’ve not once ever been completely full. Ever. Yes, I play it. I’ve had sections full (like maxed out primary or secondary) but never my whole inventory.

And yes, it is significantly deeper. In b3 you can get 8 different versions of 1 gun, with each having a unique look due to the parts available.

You can get 8 different versions of 1 gun in d2 but they each look identically the same. You can’t look at it and day, oh that has rampage, or x ability while you can in Borderlands.

In comparison mate.

For example, in Borderlands there were 25 revolver parts used for all the manufacturers.

Then in Borderlands 2 you had like 75 parts with each having a unique style dependant 9n which manufacturer made which part (Jacobs gun with bandit handle, maliwan sight, etc…).

Now in 3 here every manufacturer has a ■■■■ ton of parts unique to them. Instead of 9 pistol barrels, you have 9 per manufacturer (honestly don’t know the numbers).

This is a loot game. We need a way to store the loot we farm. I like keeping favorites for my alts instead of having to farm them all again. They’re nerfng the drop rate and will continue to do so. Increasing the number of Legendary items, adding Anointed items, nerfng the drop rates, and LOWERING STORAGE CAPACITY MAKES NO FRIGGING SENSE! I could care less about 2d or 3d. Use text only with a small decal indicating the type! Give us a choice in settings! What the hell were they thinking?! I’m pissed

what you have equipped doesn’t count towards how much you can carry, how much you can carry is how much extra you can carry, and you only have 9 slots to hold extra gear per type in D2. thats where the vault comes in handy.
and where did you find the info that you can only get 8 different types of the same gun? that information is so wrong it couldn’t be any more wrong, almost every different part visually makes the gun look different and each manufacturer has over 100 different parts to choose from, and every combination of those parts will make the weapon look different. i have had over 20 hyperion powerplays, and every single one has looked different.

and as for a answer on one of the previous posts, the reason the weapons look less 3d on console is because anisotropic filtering is set to lower then it can be sat on PC, and because of that the items look more flat.

hopefully they will add a bigger vault space, but they probably won’t, at least not in the way people will think.

i feel you dude, the system was the same in BL2, that’s why vault size was limited to 24 in BL2, i guess they prefer the coolness of being able to view the actual model then a 2d image of it or some text.

How is it cheating to make a mule? And why would you care if someone makes a mule even if it is cheating? “OH, NO!! SOMEONE IS GONNA DO SOMETHING I DON’T LIKE AND DOESNT AFFECT ME!!” That is idiocy

Nah, xbox 360

Good Lord dude…

Stop nitpicking. You know I’m right about the D2 gear. Wether it’s the 9extra plus 1 equiped, your still carrying 10.

You seem to be a master of selective reading also. I did not say there were only 8 versions of a gun. I said you could get 8 versions of the same gun with each having a completely different look while in D2 you could get 8 different versions of the same gun but each one would look the same.

Lastly, look mate. Anistropic Filtering is traditionally used to clean up textures when looking at them from an off angle. What angles are the menus looked at that would require it?

Look, I’m not saying they aren’t 3d, just that it doesn’t look it to me. What makes more sense on a console with very limited memory resources. Fully rendering up to 70 guns in a menu or to make tiny images of the parts with transparencies and lay them over each other and only render when inspecting the weapon?

Now mind you, before you throw a tizzy and start reporting my posts. I’m specifically talking about the 360 versions, both of which I have.

Please have a good night and an even better weekend.

Ease up mate. No need to get harsh. I don’t quite get how making mules is “cheating” either but no need to get nasty.
