Let's Talk about Matchmaking

I’m in both places. I’ve read all of the matchmaking threads I’ve found, and have responded in a few places. When I have more to talk about, I’ll post.

Note, that for big new news, (like this thread) I usually start here. Reddit copies it over, and then discusses. I’ll respond to points in both.

I’ve spent some time with the new system on PC, and as I’m sure others have mentioned, finding a game outside of Casual Mode can be next to impossible. I sat in a Spotlight queue for around 20 minutes today–five to find a team of five players, consisting of two groups of two and an solo player, then another 15 of searching for team, with no result. That little blinking yellow icon is driving me mad.

I’m sure the statistical writing’s on the wall, and changes are in the pipeline, so I won’t belabor the point. Patience shall be exercised.

Thanks for upping the drop rates in Story, because it’s why I’m still playing. Found a group of friends, got Gold on all the Advanced maps, found some sweet perfect-roll legendary gear, and did some Lore farming to boot. Good times.

Maybe I am raging, but I hate the new matchmaking…35 Assault matches and so far no Meltdown! I simply want to complete the lore for Kleese…sorry, but why the hell do I need to play matches of nearly 700 minutes together for nothing?

700 minutes? - Gearbox did you not tell us about the new extended Incursion mode?

Just take a break, bro - Incursion is a grind of a mode at times and it’s best to just take a step back before you reach boiling point. Perhaps grab some friends and head into the queue to increase the chances of Meltdown getting voted.

35 matches of each around 20 minutes…this adds up to 700 minutes

My suggestion: take a break until later tomorrow after the next battleplan is announced and implemented. I imagine it will include some kind of change, good or bad who knows? But hopefully a change

True, I was just making a little ‘goof’ to lighten the mood, ahha.

But for sure, take a little break - it works wonders.

As of late, i noticed couple of problems with matchmaking.
First off, it takes a long time to find a match. In terms of 10-15 minutes of wait time. I know what most will say, ‘‘You are already wasting time by playing games, why do you complain?’’, i would not complain if i actually played instead of waiting in queue.
Second, these changes to matchmaking that was done earlier is not completely without problems.

If someone think that is fair matchmaking, then really i don’t know what fair is (and yes, we lost).
I would not give any thought to it, if this was first time. But since i got the game ( which was on June 28th), this is has been happening regularly. And matchmaking was not always like this, since i have been closely following Battleborn since beta, when my good friend started playing it, and i was/am regularly following his matches.
Being constantly crushed and stumped by high rank players while being teamed with players of my rank is no fun at all, and as time passes i regret more and more money spent on this game.
While i do have fun, from time to time, it does not justify winning one game by being hammered into oblivion in next 10.
Please, fix this, it is becoming more and more frustrating to play like this.

In Casual mode, you will be matched with any player available at the time. Competitive mode offers balance, but less map variety and slightly longer queuing times. Competitive is the only one with actual matchmaking.

And by things happening like this in Casual mode, how is that fair? Getting curb stomped by full team of 100’s is not casual…

Its not fair but I would definitely look over the new Battleplan tomorrow we will probably see fixes to matchmaking.

Casual and competitive are basically horrible names for the queues. Someone else in the forum pointed out that better names would be “Quick” and “Matched” since that’s basically how they work.

Casual currently will only find you a game with no restriction to how that game will look like.

Competitive will try to match you with people who are near you in skill at the expense of time you’ll have to sit in queue. Note that even here you’re not guaranteed a better match-up since ELO seems to be a bit all over the place.

– and great, another merge when I was typing out a reply, this thread is getting a bit ridiculous in size. :stuck_out_tongue:

Can understand you there, but rather one big 600-posts topic with feedback, so a Dev can scroll through, than 8 topics with easily 50 or 150+ posts each.

Its all about keeping the feedback organized and easy to access

No worries, you guys are pretty fast with merging things so it was just me replying at the wrong time ^^

Would it maybe be possible to sticky this and pre/postfix it with “all matchmaking related discussion here”?
I’m sure this thread is mighty disorienting for someone who’s trying to skim through it.
All I want to play is Meltdown on Paradise, it seems to only come up when Incursion on Overgrowth does, and then either loses the vote to it or wins and everybody quits.
Ha, true story. For me it’s incursion on Overgrowth but that basically sums up how this new system has changed everything.

The new matchmaking has made pretty much all worse. Before you needed to wait for a match, but you could play the mode you want even if it was unpopular. Now it is 95% Incursion and the other modes are only accessible if they are the “mode of the day” as all other matches are canceled. I rather wait, than play a mode I don’t want to play for the 40th time and actually I quit now if I am forced to another Incursion match. I know this makes me an ■■■■■■■, but after 40 matches I don’t really care.

What kills my matchmaking is when I got on a team with CR lvl 4-7’s and I was only in my 40’s while the other team gets 100’s and a few 90’s. o.o yes skill based matchmaking at its frigging finest. It happens more often then I would like.

TBH though I think they should have a lobby with premade parties that you can join. At least that promotes some sort of strategy if you go into a party and know what they need and what they want. Grant it it would also promote well people being dickish when they kick you for xx reasons

Just adding my two cents to the whole thing, I honestly think that the ELO(?) match making rank being a “beind the scenes” thing is pretty pointless. Instead, reset everyones rank back to 1 (or whatever the start value is) and then display them publicly. That way, people have a better understanding of where they are skill wise, and get a clearer indication of who long they may have to queue for.

Plenty of MOBAs do this for ranked or competitive game modes, so it makes sense for BB to do it too (and will give people more insentive to use competitive mode in general).

Apologies if this has already been suggested before now, I haven’t read every single post on this thread :confounded:

And why the ■■■■ does everyone pick incursion when it’s the worst mode. I’m so tired of incursion

It’s especially upsetting considering that it theoretically COULD be fun, but as it is now it’s just stupid. A team can just sit near their sentry and shoot down the lane when you try to push. If they take damage they just back up, and if you try to chase them you get mauled by their sentry. After the first one is dead they can even sit outside the door to their spawn and snipe at you, and if you try to shoot them they can just walk back inside and get full health. They’ll probably lose, but that’s not a fun way to play the game. I didn’t buy the game to fight giant AI sentries in PvP, I did it to compete with other players.

The whole one lane thing also makes it impossible to strategise. If the enemy team actually DOES decide to leave their base, you either stay with your team and smash your heads against the heads of the enemy team or hop up behind their sentry and try to chip away at it without it killing you, neither of which are very entertaining.
