Tediore guns fire bullets!?

Just one per clip AFAIK.

I’ve passed one Refill IVF with scav grip (max Mag size) around my characters to max out mag size and here’s the results:

  • Jack - mag size 99 (10/5 just compensation, 1/1 Sponsored by… with a swap from a scav gun)
Could have gone slightly higher with a blue Best Man COM that gives 11/5 Just Compensation, but the celestial offers better damage through the boost through other skills.
  • Athena - mag size 90 (11/5 Gathering Tempest, Deadly Femme Fatale COM)
  • Claptrap - mag size 87 (5/5 Organized guns + Gun Wizard action skill, else 48 without action skill)
  • Wilhelm - mag size 68 (5/5 Welcome to the Gun Show, Terminator COM)

I’ll pass around my Damage prefix IVF tomorrow and then do some calcs to see the damage output of Mag size prefix vs Damage prefix on reload throws.

I’ve seen how IVF chucking can be very effective (particularly on Claptrap & mainly for the Sentinel fight) but I really don’t like the mechanic (find it disorienting) so I don’t use it very much. In situations where IVF chucking might come in handy, the Flakker is a good alternative.

LOL when Claptrap procs Gun Wizard with the IVF + Loose Cannon + Bomber Kit. Some insane DPS at that point. Does Athena match that at max Maelstrom? At 250%, it’s slightly higher than Clappy’s 220% from LnS, but Clappy has a few reload skills (DtH + DM + LNtE) and Grenade Vent. Athena has some skills like OS. Probably missing some other skills from both characters though.

Of course, Gun Wizard boosts everyone in the party, right? Crazy if that proc’d with a group of IVF chuckers.

Okay, numbers incoming. Here goes, assuming that no other damage buffs are running.

##Refill IVF :zap:
Mag size prefix, Scav Grip
Base Mag size: 39
Base Damage: 3719

  • Jack:
    • The Best Man com (or Celestial Doppelganger com), 11/5 (or 10/5) Just compensation, 0 grenades left
    • Boosted Mag size: 104 (99)
      Reload Damage: 3719 x 103/2 = 191529 (3719 x 98/2 = 182231)
  • Athena:
    • Relentless Femme Fatale com, 11/5 Gathering Tempest
    • Boosted Mag size: 90
      Reload Damage: 3719 x 89/2 = 165496
  • Claptrap:
    • 5/5 Organized Guns are happy Guns, (Gun Wizard active)
    • Boosted Mag size: 48 (87)
      Reload Damage: 3719 x 47/2 = 87397 (3719 x 86/2 = 159917)
  • Wilhelm:
    • Terminator com, 5/5 Welcome to the Gun show
    • Boosted Mag size: 62
      Reload Damage: 3719 x 62/2 = 113430
  • Nisha:
    • 1/1 Fistful of Bullets
    • Boosted Mag size: 42
      Reload Damage: 3719 x 41/2 = 76240

##Hefty IVF :zap:
Damage prefix, Tediore Grip (Manufacturer matching bonus)
Base Mag size: 33
Base Damage: 3928

  • Jack:
    • The Best Man com (or Celestial Doppelganger com), 11/5 (or 10/5) Just compensation, 0 grenades left
    • Boosted Mag size: 88 (84)
      Reload Damage: 3928 x 87/2 = 170868 (3928x 83/2 = 163012)
  • Athena:
    • Relentless Femme Fatale com, 11/5 Gathering Tempest
    • Boosted Mag size: 76
      Reload Damage: 3928 x 75/2 = 147300
  • Claptrap:
    • 5/5 Organized Guns are happy Guns, (Gun Wizard active)
    • Boosted Mag size: 41 (74)
      Reload Damage: 3928 x 40/2 = 78560 (3928 x 73/2 = 143372)
  • Wilhelm:
    • Terminator com, 5/5 Welcome to the Gun show
    • Boosted Mag size: 52
      Reload Damage: 3928 x 51/2 = 100164
  • Nisha:
    • 1/1 Fistful of Bullets
    • Boosted Mag size: 36
      Reload Damage: 3928 x 35/2 = 68740

Here is the calc sheet:

As the calcs show, the Mag size prefix and scav grip version does around 10,6% more damage on its reloads, so on every class, the Refill prefix and the scav grip are the non plus ultra for DPS. Not quite so for ammo consumption on missed throws.

I can do the calcs for a Refill prefix Tediore grip variant, too, if there’s some demand.
Edit: nvm, the Tediore grip Refill variant has a smaller Mag size and lower damage than the Refill scav grip one.

I am curious about a howitzer com on Wilhelm, I am thinking that explosive elemental damage might outweigh magazine size increase

don’t think so. Howitzer only gives 44% to non-elemental IVFs with explosive reloads.

A lvl 60 Refill IVF has 4463 base damage and 39 bullets.

Reload dmg for Howitzer mod: 1.44 x 4463 x 38 / 2 = 122107
Reload dmg for Terminator mod: 4463 x 61 / 2 = 136122

But - you’ll be more ammo efficient with the Howitzer mod.

Good info!!

Raid fight I’d go Terminator as I’m only likely to get 20 chucks out anyway

Hollodome probably the Howizer because of the ammo efficiency…

Last wrinkle

Use a Duality Oz Kit with Explosive damage and assume you are in vacuum.

Now you have elemental Explosive Damage approaching 90% when combined with the Howitzer Com

Or…use the same Duality in Vaccuum with the Terminator

Tediore reloads are grenade damage. Use a bomber Oz kit to max that damage.

Really? Interesting. Will have to remember this and possibly get my hands on a few more IVFs.

I think you are right except in instances where you can match element to enemy weakness

Then I think you get even greater damage…like the Hyperious 10 second kills using a fire gunerang and a fire Baby Makers with a Fire Relic and a Veteran Mod

Explosive isn’t an element…but it is…but it isn’t…LOL

It was in Bl1 so I say it is dammit!

I don’t think there were relics in BL2 that boosted grenade damage.

Anyways, the greatest boost to an element from a duality kit is 54% (explosive duality), followed by 48% (corrosive duality), 43% (shock and incendiary duality) and 0% (cryo duality, what the hell?)
Bomber oz kit gives 54% grenade damage.

Now let’s assume we did some element matching with a shock IVF, the reload dmg in UVHM would be

  • boosted dmg = reload dmg * 1.54 * 2.75 with the bomber
  • boosted dmg = reload dmg * 1.48 * 2.75 with the duality.

Same with fire and corrosion IVFs and the corresponding duality kits

  • boosted dmg = reload dmg * 1.54 * 2 with the bomber
  • boosted dmg = reload dmg * 1.43 * 2 with the duality.

Raw damage is always better with the bomberr oz kit. The duality might help with elemental status effects and other non-tediore guns in your loadout, though.

Not trying to beat a dead horse but would that necessarily be true when combining a duality and howitzer mod. 90% explosive damage bonus.

And I honestly don’t know, I am just asking. I do know that when I throw bonus packages at Iwa …that combination seems to be the most overpowering and it is grenades.

Well, then let’s do the numbers (btw, I got the grenade damage formula wrong, mea culpa)

Howitzer + duality on an explosive IVF:

boosted dmg = base dmg * 38 * 1/2 * 1.90 = base dmg * 37.05

Now with a Terminator com + bomber oz kit

boosted dmg = base dmg * 61 * 1.54/2 = base dmg * 46.97

So, the IVF will still get a greater boost with a Terminator + bomber.
Then again, howitzer and duality will give your bonus package grenade more damage.

btw, my Athena teamed up with a clap today and he rolled a gun wizard. My IVF was at 129 mag size! Holy ■■■■■■■ batman.

Btw, does anyone know how to throw the IVF in a way that makes the 2 spawning IVF clones hit as well? Apparently these things do the same damage as the main reload throw, so if all 3 hit, it’s triple damage.

I’m currently trying to throw them downwards towards enemies’ crotches while I’m in the air, or at their feet when I’m on the ground.

I thought the child grenades did half of the main damage (or at least reduced). Should be easy to test though against something large (like Iwa). Sorry, don’t have an answer for multiple hits. Obviously, the large targets are easy to hit multiple times without any special aiming. I thought the child grenades always just popped out about 10 feet from the first explosion (one to each side), and I’ve never noticed a different behavior. Although, I do like the idea that aiming and hitting the crotch of an enemy should be a special bulls-eye that creates one giant explosion. Seems somehow apropo given the weapon’s name.

I shoot it quite a lot. Upon discovering how bad it’s bullets are, i immediately throw it toward my foes with the hope of placating their wrath.

I use one in conjunction with a Min Min and Stormfront, and obviously a bomber OZ on CS Athena. Lightning and chucking everywhere, way too much fun.
