Levelling - TVHM

So it’s pretty bad for me that I just opened up my game to the public and someone took a sidequest?
Clan Wars for example

Clan Wars are actually several missions. 6-7, or so… The third or fourth gives you the Triquetra shotgun. It’s pretty neat, but it’s not until the last part that you have a chance for either Maggie or Slagga dropping. So, if it’s just the first part, you have nothing to worry about.

Always a risk!

THIS kind of crap is why I hate online play.

This isn’t too bad, since once you complete the main story and get level 50 everywhere, whichever clan ends up respawning at the Lynchwood train station will have level 50 drops. You may want to wait before picking up part 2 of the sequence though.

Clan Wars: Wakey, Wakey is the last mission before the final showdown at the train station. Just hold off on doing that one until you reach level 50. This quest as well as Cult Following and Tiny Tina’s Tea Party have several missions before the final one so doing those missions is alright if you stop short of doing the final one that gets you the reward…

  1. Can I do side quests after I’ve downed Warrior on tvhm, without levelling up?
  2. … Perhaps by disabling the xtra lvls dlc?

1- Depends on the side quest- you’ll still get the mission XP but the enemies you face may grant little to no XP depending on how much higher level you are than them. As an example I use a level 52 Maya to farm for eridium against the Ancient Dragons in normal when making a new mule (their level can get up to 39 if Boost does his thing). She gets 17 XP per dragon killed while the mule gets 17,333 per dragon if I remember correctly. When she kills the mimics the mule will get several hundred XP while she gets none…

2- to the best of my knowledge the only way to disable the level increase dlc is to remove them- hardly seems like it’s worth it IMO…

Im 48 and just finished Sawtooth Cauldron - Im getting near the end, if I remember correctly. So I should be around 50 when I do the last misson.
Concerning the sidequests, I’d like to do all those who give orange gear, for example: Redundant Fibber and Firehawk Shield. For easing my start in uvhm.
Btw, you’re solid gold Carlton, by answering all my stupid question!

Fibber is unique (blue).

Firehawk is OK. I prefer Impaler for the next few missions. It is good against loaders, constructors, and Saturn.

What I would do is target specifically those mission rewards you want, and do only those missions. That way you can avoid doing so many missions you level up in TVHM.

But only AFTER I’ve completed the main story, right?

That depends somewhat- if you reach level 50 before finishing TVHM the later quests might be at your level. Earlier quests, however, may still be at a lower level as I believe they are locked to a certain degree in normal and TVHM. If you want to make sure you get them at level 50, finish off Jack and the Warrior first…

Thanks a bunch. Again

Unaccepted missions in Lynchwood, The Dust, and Caustic Caverns will all scale with the player (although you may have to save/quit/resume to see the map level change.) Those are the only ones I know of for sure.

All do.

After completing main story if you haven’t accepted the missions, yes.
Actually during NVHM or TVHM, no. Missions in most maps don’t level up during NVHM/TVHM even if you hit level 50 before getting to the final story mission. The areas I mentioned are exceptions to that rule.

Amongst all the excitement of getting these great guns  , may I interject a word of caution and reiterate a point made by @Ronnie_Rayburn

Referring back to BL1, the transition from PT2 to PT2.5 kept the difficulty increase fairly linear. The move from TVHM to UVHM is an exponential increase in difficulty. It’s a “Very Hard” mode. Legendary L50s might see you through to L55 but other “red text” weapons will soon be outclassed by higher level greens and blues.

To make UVHM viable to mere mortal players, like myself, GBX increased the effectiveness of Slag to compensate. Unless you’re a really good run’n’gunner, you are likely to need Slag to “weaken” your enemies enough to do serious damage.

Gaige doesn’t have the innate Slag skills of some characters. Yes, there’s “Interspersed Outburst” and “Make It Sparkle” but they aren’t as effective as Axton’s Slag turrets or Maya’s “Scorn” and “Ruin”. Consequently, going in to UVHM with a good Slag weapon is as important as having L50 uniques.

If you are going to farm one mission reward weapon, then I would refer you to another recommendation by @Ronnie_Rayburn. Get a Slagga from the final shoot-out in Clan Wars. Although it’s damage output will soon be outclassed in UVHM, its ability to Slag remains very effective.

Sorry if I sound all “doom & gloom” but I know you’re a BL1 player and I don’t see why UVHM should be as big a shock to you as it was to me  Seriously, UVHM is very rewarding, in every sense, but be ready for the hike in difficulty and don’t be surprised if those shiny L50s don’t even get you to Sanctuary.

Finally, if you haven’t found good weapons in UVHM, and the going is getting dishearteningly tough, may I also add my recommendation to @kgk4569 's suggestion of farming the Bar Room Brawl for Torgue Tokens and buying a DPUH. Also, you might care to farm Treants in The Forest for a Bee shield. Both of these become available quite early on in their respective DLCs, Torgue (DLC2) and Tina (DLC4), and so don’t ruin the gameplay when you play them through. The purists say using DPUH/Bee is a crutch. I say if they get you out of a tough spot and make the game fun again, just do it

Have fun

But is the Slagga a quest reward or a drop from one of the bosses there? I’ve found various answers through a search

It boss drops from Tector Hodunk if you side with the Zafords. Just farm him until it drops.
