[Lore] Caldarius' lore makes no sense!

Nope.

Context clues suggest those 18 inch tall beings. It was the strangest and most specific thing when they mentioned the shock trooper suit. Beyond that, we know nothing about Kemessians.

=================================================================

As for the topic, it’s not so hard to figure out why he was sustained and thrown in prison. He was hated by the elites, and at this time, Rendain needed their favour to take over.

It then stands to reason that he’d granted Caldarius sustainment, and then chucked him in prison for the rest of his immortal life for no reason than pure cruelty.

Now the elite’s no longer have any major pressing issues other than the Varelsi, making Rendain’s coup and Varelsi alliance much more appealing than disappearing with the rest of solus.

Of course, this is all just conjecture, but the past can tell the future. Julius Caesar’s story is actually a lot like Caldarius’ if you think about it. Loved by all but the top brass, and punished cruelly for their popularity.

Jythri maybe hinted at more caldy lore/dialogue coming in future ops (i think HoE) so that’s nice.

A hero of the people getting the status of an elite? Showing anyone can do it? Absolutely volatile in a hierarchical society. Self preservation of their order

I’m speaking about why he granted sustainment and then locked him up. They could’ve just executed him or locked him up, but they chose to give him eternal life, and make him spend it in a prison cell.

Think of it like dramatic irony in Greek theatre. Caldarius demanded something that was above his stature, he fought and killed for the right of sustainment, and became arrogant in his quest. His social superiors game him what he wished for, but he traded what little freedom he had to gain it.

There’s a very specific story in Greek mythology that is structured almost exactly like Caldarius’ situation, but it escapes me at the moment.

EDIT: Sorry if I sound pretentious, but I love backstories. Lore and character development are my favourite things about writing and gaming.

O, there might be even fev stories like that
I remember 3

[details=Summary]1. Is about Prometheus, an immortal titan, folk hero that brought fire to ppl, chained to a stone where hungry bird feed on his liver a day, while at night the organ regenerates. Imprisonement by immortals, eternity, torture, fits well.
2. Is about Sisiphus, the famous king-dodger that ended up rolling a huge stone up to the mountain in the pits of Hades, a stone that always slips down near the peak, so S. does this rolling through eternity. Except immortals’ sentence, eternal sentence and torment not much matches.
3. Similar to above, a king-dodger, Tantalus instead, is being sentenced by immortal gods to eternal torment in Hades sinner pits, Tartar - he is constanly hungry and thirsty among food and water that “evade” him every time he tries to drink or eat.[/details]

Anyway, most of unique personas in greek mythology get to be either tortured for eternity or rewarded alike, only very special heroes die of age. Ancients :smirk:

As for Caldy: frankly I don’t remember him asking for Sustainment twice.
The facs are:

[details=Summary]1. There is a lore legendary, gift of consolation after he got denied Sustainment. A gift manny argue he, as a shocktrooper, could not use btw.
2. There is also his petition about “finally” demanding Sustainment -the right that he earned in the Pits and which was being denied to him for a century - now that victorious 999ths match the streets of Jennar. So, I guess he took that “now 100 year old” refusal silently, if there even was any formal refusal.
3. There is also his “diary” about him being “awarded that curse”.
4. Also there is no mention of circumstances of his sustainment and imprisonment. He might be sustained loyalist political prisoner as a result of Rendain’s coup, or Empress’ sustained prisoner of conscience as a result of Rendains deception (he “twisted” even Rath himself), or even captured and then sustained rebel.
All we know that Caldy’s prison cell walls were alloyed by Rath and forged into a blade (thus nickname Blademaster? ;)).[/details]

I can’t remember where I saw it, but I definetly remember Caldy being sustained before he was thrown in prison.

He was supposed to be sustained after he emerged from the fighting pits, but was refused, and I assume that’s where the first request for sustainment would’ve happened, but he didn’t defy them until the petition.

Caldy’s lore is ■■■■■■■ rad, btw.

Rad? I bet I know what part.
Just wondering if you have dsome favorite details: the part about overall slowly descending into madness, or a fragment of it about dating data recorder (clear Tannis copycat ;))?

EDIT Damn, hiding details doesn’t work well today :frowning:

Just the whole thing. No particular favourite part. I just love lore <3 more than any sane person should.

FYI, you have your put the (I’m using parentheses instead of brackets to display without actually doing it)
(details=)
1
2
3(/details) after your points

The problem is…it all actually is placed right in editor (I highlited portion of text and hidedetail-ed it, so there’s no place for errors) and looks OK in preview and even roll in/out correctly, there. It’s just the live action view that it appears screwed.

Ah it took me a lot of time to figure out why that happened. The very first hide details quantity functions differently from the second in a list. The first can be bolded and italicized. The second cannot. There is a random chance to require an enter before and after the heading. There’s many things that can occur.

TL;DR: Space twice to fix lists. If that doesn’t work, then trial and error your way to victory

I did experiment as you advised, and I think I reproduced the error.
It happens when one write something and “hidedetails” a text just beneath that something, and then do an “Enter” space between the upper text and “hidedetails’ed” one. I backspaced said “Enter” and everything seems to be OK now. Thx for help.

Yeah, I also had to do that but wasn’t sure if that was really the problem. Gosh they’re complicated. I’m glad Tokes convinced me to not use them so constantly and use headers
