Marquis destroying the first Sentry

In the open beta this was the exploit that made my team lose our first game of incursion after a 50 win streak

GBX have acknowledged the issue and stated they are going to resolve it in the upcoming patch: https://battleborn.com/en/news/view/en-battleborn-hotfixes-and-dedication-to-self-improvement/

This is how I feel… I am at 128 games with 112 wins, not all my loses are Incursion mode, but a majority of my losses are due to this kind of gameplay.

GTFO dude. This is non competetive gameplay. The guy ended the round with the least damage on his team and not a single assist. He did nothing but attack the Sentry. I was in a premade 5 man, we left the game as soon as he did this since we didn’t want to play a game like that.

Who says this is non competitive gameplay? There’s not exactly a ranked mode to try hard in.

I agree it is a bs strat, but it is pretty easily dealt with.

Please take note of the 27:56 timer on the top of the screen. By the time we noticed that our sentry was half dead… it was half dead dude. What are we suppose to do? We were just enjoying killing eachother and minions in the middle then we discovered this little kid playing his CoD class to win the most lousy way.

Also there is a background rank system right now, every match is ranked in the current build.

I don’t think you understand, the Marquis player isn’t sniping from the raised platforms on either side of the central field. There is a spot deep in your own base where a Marquis can sit and snipe the enemy sentry and be virtually untouchable, the enemy team would have to go past the first sentry to even reach him. This is not a matter of learn to play, it is a fault in the level design.

Actually in this screen, he is on the stairs, but you can’t see him in the image cause I pressed Prt Scr too late or something, but the time I could see him, I fired some arrows at him. There was no head, there was nothing, just a health bar and a gun sticking through the ground.

It’s not necessarily that easy, if he’s well defended by a tank or healer or just a strong defensive team in general you’re not going to be able to just walk up to him and make him dead. There are times when you can sneak or push towards him but when a good team identifies a cheap Marquis tactic like that they tend to converge and protect him. Most of the time when this happens to me we flank and have our Montana hit their sentry with Miko support, they never see that retaliation coming.

I hear you, but also if they have a “protect the MarCheese” team comp, that means Marquee is not doing damage to your team. And he’s one of the top damage dealers in the game.

Please just stop defending this tactic… I know you don’t like it when it happens to you. There is no counter to this. Cause even if you do counter it, you have to go out of your way to do it, and your still disadvantaged cause your shields are lowered for some time, or they already did sentry damage, meaning your even further disadvantaged. It’s a cheap tactic employed by the skilless who are only out to win.

It’s not like Marquis isn’t skilless enough as it is, now they have to further make me hate them with unsportsmanship like gameplay.

I main Marqui. I love him. He is a super fun sniper that can actually do ALOT to support his team. He is great at stalling pushes, killing minions and mercenaries, cleaning up low health enemies and generally rewards skilled play.

This sentry exploit and the “line of sight” exploit where he can be in full cover behind the perch and still shoot across ABSOLUTELY must be fixed.

Marqui, when not using these two exploits, is a high skill class. Hitting your target consistently and quickly is much harder in this game than nearly any other fps.

Exploiting is always stupid.

HAHAHA SKILLED PLAY!

Sorry, different gripe for a different forum, but…

DAT SKILL THO!

On a side note, go play Thorn and tell me how “skilled” your Marquis is. (unbalanced pos class)

Five man teams of Lvl 40+ players are literally just farming wins. It takes 5 minutes. How did this make it out of beta? It’s not like people didn’t call it out as a problem. I am starting to feel like just quitting out as soon as I see a premade enemy team that joins and all votes for overgrowth.

And good job to the kids who are just sitting there exploiting. Should be a report function for those clowns.

Umm? Thorn is extremely powerful and mobile. She is much tankier than Marqui due to her huge mobility.

Both require the same level of aiming skill, with slightly different emphasis. Thorn needs to hit her first charge shot and pays heavily for missing it. Marqui needs to hit every consecutive shot and pays for missing it due to his low fire rate, limited magazine and inability to really get close and pursue targets.

I don’t see how you could say either class require more skill than the other. Thorn emphasizes mobility and engagement accuracy. Marqui emphasizes consistency and situational awareness. If a Marqui is out of position or lets himself get snuck up on, he dies almost every time. A high mobility thorn can escape almost any mistake.

Yea, I actually ran into this personally yesterday and it’s definitely annoying as hell.

Having said that, the team is aware and we’re currently discussing it. Fear not!

Can you discus how you are addressing it?

Please realize that a non exploiting sniper can currently hit fleeing players as they try to reach the healing station (they are vulnerable while going up the stairs and a short space on that platform). It would be a mistake to remove this.

Please do not just add a wall or hard cap Marqui’s range. Please do something more sophisticated like making the sentry immune to any damage delivered from X distance.

Also note that the sentry shield, At the moment can be damaged even if the shot wouldn’t actually hit the sentry due to it being a bubble. By making the shield have the same hit box as the sentry and moving it slightly back it would be completely out of line of sight. As it is now the sentry occasionally paths such that it’s body cannot be seen by Marqui from the perch.

Well let me list a couple of suggestions I have come up with and others around me have made when discussing this for you real quick.

  1. Sentry Bot has a deflection shield like ISIC with his Rotating Wards skill
  2. That backwall on the Sniper Perches covers everything, so you cannot see the sentry at all.
  3. Give Marquis bullet mechanics and shoot from a lower POV (also make his Crit his entire head so I can actually get crit hits… please!!!)

None of them have to be used of course, but community ideas I think would be received better, but at this point I think any change is good… I myself will not be playing until the next patch I think… too many “Win in whatever way is easiest” type of people right now and I just want to have a fun 30 min brawl.

Lol, love how people complain about this. And thanks to people complaining more people are doing this, I’ve already won over 120+ games doing this with a 135 match record. Too easy!!! More exploits~!

Um…guys. Thorn and toby can do this stuff as well. :frowning:

but only Marquis can do it in this way, and he has the highest damage output of the 3. The problem here is that there is no way to attack them without going all the way around the other team. If it was a Thorn, her head would be sticking out, you cannot fire without having your body shown. If it was Toby… well he is big. If it’s Marquis, well he either shows only his hat or nothing at all, and his hat isn’t even a crit point.
