Only time I have a problem with Marquis is when I am not not paying attention. Plenty of areas to hide, then sneak up on him. I main thorn, so when I see him up on that perch in overgrowth, I blight him and keep him on his toes, if he is too busy focusing on me, and not being able to hit me, then he is not helping his team.
Marquis is balanced and will likely only destroy if the other 4 players are doing most of the work objectively speaking. Yes he has high single target damage and an AOE slow which work together well to give him something to use in most scenarios - but kill any of his team and objectives are going to start going in your favour.
If you play a large character that is used to using higher than average health to survive encounters then I can see why Marquis would be the most frustrating matchup.
Itās not a game where every character has an equal footing against each other ~ if I play Montana or Toby I will avoid showing my face to Marquis because it wonāt end well. But if I am Oscar Mike, Orendi or Thorn > uproot him with an AOE. Deande, Caldarius, Phoebe > Bring the fight up close and force his retreat. Melka is very hard to snipeā¦
Overgrowth is the only map where Iād say Marquis shows any signs of being OP - the sentry should not be able to be harmed from āthe ledgeā but other than that; if he is able to sit up there and wreck your team then you donāt have control of the central area.
What Marquis brings to the team is easy to shut down if your teams are closely matched in skill and you understand his weaknesses - The problem comes when Marquisās 4 other team members are able to hold their own against your whole team. This gives Marquis the time and space he shouldnāt be allowed and will make him look OP.
Exactly thank you. I have over 20+ hours as Marquis and heās the main character I use. Those who say auto aim with Marquis are idiots. Marquis is squishy and can mainly shoot open areas once heās down to a different position he can be killed easily. Also Marquis and other ranged champs should be able to remove the shield off the Sentinal but do no damage that needs a fix for more skilled worthy games
This is why I love Ghalt. You can just yank a Thorn or Marquis into the trap with your team in the lane for an instakill.
Or use thorn to counter snipe him
Heās not overpowered. I never said he was overpowered. I said heās ruining games, because unless a marquis is out of position, he canāt be touched. Your options are āhope theyāre bad or out of positionā, āsacrifice a team mate to kill himā, or āHope your marquis is betterā.
There are more options than that and many have been discussed on this thread.
Hmmm ok I thought it was an issue with him being OP, but I can see how playing games against him might be less fun because it limits your movement options + his presence on the field counters a lot of play before it starts (or punishes people that go with it anyway) but I canāt say it bothers me personally too much.
Have you ever played Destiny PvP? There are sniper rifles in that game where it is a one hit kill sometimes even with just a body shot. Couple that with a player who knows how to quick scope and it can be super frustrating to counter unless you are a better sniper or get lucky and sneak up behind them and shoot them in the face with a shotgun (which btw is also often a one shot kill). Marquis can definitely be a pain, but he isnāt a one hit kill, in fact i find it takes at least 3 good shots to actually kill someone with his sniper and often by then most people are clever enough to get out of range before then (or maybe I just suck at sniping). He is also great as a hip-fire character with the right skill unlocks, which Marquis players seem to forget when they stick to only sniping, meaning they really suck at using him at close range. Make them sweat by knocking off a bit of their health and then close in to make them panic and run off. The one thing I think should happen is you should have better visibility that a sniper has you in their sights like in Destiny where you see the glare of their scope since the mini-map will only show you players within a certain range.
Yes, most of which arenāt practical options unless the marquis is out of position. I play a lot of Ghalt, and unless marquis is out of position, heās not in hook range yet can still attack you. Or, in many cases, is in hook range, but above you, in which case hook does nothing as theyāll hit the ground immediately and the hook will break. Also, āsneaking behind their team to ambush himā rarely works without being seen, as the maps are not that big and unless youāre already ahead as a team and have your minions pushed to the 2nd grinder or sentry, turrets or other players will see you. I also play Deande, and she is capable of getting to marquis, but with no CC there is a decent chance heāll get away, as he has a fairly large and reliable slow/self haste, a very fast and spammable knockback, and is already close to the safety of his base or team. Plus, if you do kill him, youāre now stuck with your cooldowns used with his team between you and your team. There is a reason that marquis is an issue and thorn is not. They fulfill similar roles (long range glass cannon/sniper) but thorn canāt be removed from all threat because her shots have a travel time. Marquisās damage is the same or better than thorns, and yet his effective range is also vastly better.
Yes, Iāve put quite a lot of time into Destiny. Lilling a player in destiny took much less time/shots than in battleborn no matter what weapon your using. In the same way you could kill someone with 1/2 a autorifle mag, but oscar mike cannot. Theyāre different genres. Also, Bungie nerfed snipers recently because they were too strong for this very reason.
Iām not going to continue this discussion with you, myself and others have given you multiple solutions to your Marquis problem but if youāre going to deny their effectiveness and not try something different then thatās on you. There are ways around it whether you can accept that or not, only the most skilled Marquis players can survive a full game and deny an entire team on their own but even then there are ways to take him out of the fight. Happy gaming and I wish you luck with your dilemma.
It is funny that people complain about Marquis and Overgrowth, when other characters can do it. I personally find Toby more annoying because he is harder to get out of the perch with counter sniping because of the shield.
Oh Toby can be a right nuisance if play well. Then again thatās true of every character.
As others and I have said heās basically a open target even in perch. His hp and shields stink and proper gear on your part nulls him. Your Galt your hook range is huge. I play against dozens of em and they hook my butt out of thin air yards away. Just takes careful aim.
You have traps. Get behind him, drop a trap and be done. The stun lasts enough to kill em. Iāve seen as much and on rookies without much gear.
In closing, your thinking too much as a deathmatch player, you donāt need to kill him. Drive him back, mess with his aim, disrupt. That alone will makeover simple for your mates to mop his robot butt up.
Also, and Iām not saying or implying anything, but realistically, think maybe your playstyle is hurting you? Cause Iām getting that vibe. Maybe switch it up. As a sniper I love knowing that A Iām in someoneās head, cause then they get irked and make dumb mistakes. And B people who follow a rigid pattern are whipping boys for good snipers. If he can read you he will harass you. Play random, take new routes around the map, strafe and circle. Stay mobile. If your sitting there like a lump any half good sniper will pick you off every time.
I have a lot of fun with Thorn when I get her push back melee unlocked, high jump, +speed item, and +sprint.
It is obnoxious as hell to run in and drop blight beneath the sentinel and be gone.
And there in lies the problem as even another marquise canāt counter snipe him because he is glitch in through the wall.
Itās because marquise is the best at it. Thorn does hardly any damage to the shield and takes her alot longer to take it down. Toby canāt do it without being a target himself.
Marquis is squishy as all hell, making him sprint slower than melee characters basically means GG and will force people to stop playing as Marquis altogether.
Additionally, most melee characters have higher DPS at rank 1 than a majority of ranged characters. A majority of ranged characters have starter DPS at around 150 to 160, while all of the melee characters, except for Boldur and Galilea, have starter DPS around 160 to 190.
To make ranged characters slower than melee characters would basically make the game 100% about melee, as the token ranged character would be eaten alive by the superior DPS of blades and fists.
The only reason Galilea, and Boldur if someone plays them very well, have such insane damage is because their Helix choices augment their ability to destroy people so much. A Galilea that picks the wrong helix choices are even more worthless than an M1 Shepherd.
Bonus: The top 5 highest initial DPS characters in the game, excluding Montana because his initial DPS is insane but depends heavily on the size of his target.
- Ghalt - 197 - Those revolver shotguns are not to be trifled with, but his moderate squishiness and short falloff range means that youāll have to be clever with how you get close⦠or just hook them.
- El Dragon - 194 - Those robot arms are not just for show, they hurt. However, early game his large size and relative squishiness means that going in for a kill is little more than assisted suicide.
- ISIC - 193 - That charge shot is a very lethal tool, if you time your trigger presses to release at the right time, you can reach some insane numbers with ISIC early on.
- Phoebe - 192 - Dancing lessons and fencing lessons can do some work, but her DPS requires precision, if youāre not able to track your target then youāll find yourself doing little more than waving around a pointy stick.
- Kelvin - 168 - Frostbite is a pretty bad condition to have, even worse is this icy monster slapping you with his ice claws. Again, requires precision, as there arenāt any spinning attacks here.
Honorable mentions:
-
Whiskey Foxtrot - 153 to 186 - Whiskeyās passive is a strong buff, it only suffers from the requirement to kill something beforehand⦠though anything with a health bar counts, including large shard clusters!
-
Toby - 100 to 203 - Some of the strongest DPS here, but only if you can land those fully charged railgun shots, with his large size and relative squishiness, he ends up going down very fast if heās not careful.
-
Kleese - 160 to 240 - That upper number is only active while he is attacking shields, once he gets through them, he drops back down to the lower one. Additionally, his large size, utter lack of any combat useful mobility tool, and the lowest health values in the game make him a big round target.
-
Montana - 320 to 480 - Having the lowest damage per bullet in the game doesnāt prevent his mountain of man from dishing out the highest base DPS in the game, as he also has twice the fire rate of even the closest competitor at 20 bullets per second. This is only mitigated by the fact that he has next to no control over where the bullets go. If heās trying to shoot a small target, then his effective DPS drops through the floor.
Actually, Marquisās damage is worse than thornās on a per shot basis. The only time that his relative DPS is higher is when he lands three shots on a target. Even then, Thornās damage per shot jumps over his once you consider her passive. A good Thorn player will beat out an equally skilled Marquis player, a majority of the time.
Agreed, everyone seems to be āOPā if a semi skilled player is using him to terrorize players who donāt know the first thing about strategy, smh. Watch out though the sniper is sniping ha ha
I think his ranged sniping is fine. My problem is that his Pistol still hurts and the knock back on his Melee seems to throw you really far.
