They’re good at making Marquis close to them, which is really bad for Marquis.
Never had a problem with Marquis the entire OB, if anything i liked having him on the opposite team, free kill versus any melee char i was using.
Marquis could just headshot them tho. He deals more damage at every range than those characters do at close range.
If you can easily land a headshot on a Caldarius while he’s dashing at you, you’re seriously talented, don’t think the char you choose is the problem here
His pistol damage is pretty meh, and he can’t realistically use his rifle at close range. Plus, this is assuming perfect Marquis play against a fairly mobile character.
His pistol damage is actually better than caldarius’ TMP. Caldarius basically does no damage, not sure how he is a counter to anyone.
Most of the counters that marquis has are much harder to play than marquis is.
Cald was actually my main during the beta, and let me tell you his TMP deals surprising damage over time, especially due to his super sanic speedy reload. Plus, he’s super mobile and his ult is essentially a dash that deals 500 damage- a pretty decent chunk of Marquis’ health, and afterwards he has a spammable dash that makes sure Marquis won’t hit him. Plus his sword with 80-90 damage per hit.
In regards to difficulty, a higher skillcap typically means more choice and potential. With Marquis, a fairly simple character, your choices are a. snipe from across the map b. stand still and look pretty as you get beat on in close range. Cald has a lot of engagement and disengagement options that let him outplay Marquis even if it’s hard. (As much as I don’t like saying this, a big part of countering simple characters involves characters that force you to git gud.)
Really? the sheet I looked at showed that he has one of the lowest damage outputs in the game. I googled “Battleborn Bible”. Marquis could also just put up a slow field and take shots at him before he is even close enough to deal damage. Sniping from across the map is all you need to do, because no one in the game can easily contest your DPS at range.
That DPS is for his TMP, not including critical hits, which are way easier for him to land at close range than for Marquis to land his pistol crits. His slow field doesn’t slow Gravitic Burst or Cald’s passive dash, so it’s kinda moot. Cald also shouldn’t really be staying in one place for too long, so unless Marquis is actively hunting him, he probably won’t die. The point of Cald is to get close so that he doesn’t have to contest DPS at range.
Well supposedly Ambra also has one of the lowest base and DPS values and yet she usually ends up being the one on top of the dmg dealt stats. It’s a good baseline but doesn’t mean that much in the end.
How is the TMP easier to land crits with than the pistol? it has poor accuracy and damage falloff.
Much higher RoF …? It doesn’t matter if it has poorer accu if can shoot a lot more.
Damage falloff is irrelevant- Cald is mobile and if he’s fighting Marquis in damage falloff range, he’s doing it wrong.
In terms of accuracy…
Plus, it has a much larger magazine and faster reload so it punishes Cald for missing a lot less than Marquis.
If damage falloff is irrelevant, we should take it off of every character. Then marquis will be balanced because he isn’t the only hitscan char without it.
I didn’t say that damage falloff is universally irrelevant, it’s just so in this case. If Caldarius is fighting Marquis and he’s getting damage falloff, he won’t win because he’s not in range to do anything else, but he’s mobile enough to get to Marquis quickly and out of damage falloff range.
I just don’t understand why marquis doesn’t have damage falloff yet the other characters do.
Because he’s a Sniper. He’d be useless otherwise. Close range is a death sentence to him. He’s only got his slow to save him, otherwise, he’s dead.
Marquis has no damage falloff because he’s only useful in ranges where others aren’t. He’s actually bad at fighting. Sure he has dps, but only when he zooms and restricts his FOV and look turn speed incredibly, and only if he lands every shot. He has really low health, pretty poor crowd control, his damage abilities are really slow to cast, he has a 6 round clip with a long reload, and he has no mobility skills. If he had damage falloff and no hitscan he’d be trash tier 0.69/10 because his long range autoattack is pretty much all he has.
why is one player so desperately on the fence to get a character nerfed?
just because in the open beta, on one map, he could do what he was made for? sniping. he has no stun, no dash, no heal, only his position. stuns, blinds, pulls, knockups and slows all pretty much f*ck him up.
You make a good point. Its possible the other characters should just have falloff removed that way they can deal good damage at range too.
@10Tacle you have a good point. Instead of nerfing marquis we could buff the other characters to put them on marquis’ level.
