Many people on here are trying to argue it’s a good challenge increase. But all it is ends up being ridiculously more time consuming, even for general enemies. Even with a good Fl4k crit build or other high damage builds, it takes forever to put many enemies down. It isn’t more challenging, it requires the same skill sets, just way more time. Different modifiers added challenge because you had to think about different weapons or elements, change up tactics a bit. This is just spending way more time to do the same approach as you would anyway. Not a good concept for a challenge increase, it’s just boring and lazy. This just demands players to specifically design every build for the fastest and highest damage build possible and leads to everyone basically have every character using the same builds to be effective. It isn’t creative or fun, just lazy and stagnated. It removes all purpose of having different possible builds and more unique teams. Also considering that it came with augments to character skills already to help characters utilize different options, but creates a mode where to be successful you can’t even delve into many of those new reworks. Gearbox can do much better and I’m hoping this gets patched soon. All it is is a giant time consumption and ammo consumption mode, nothing more. No challenge increase, just time increase. So lazy

I do more damage with the same builds on M4 then I did on M3 since I never re-rolled modifiers. And now I’m not punished for using weapon types or elements that I want. If I want to build around Jakobs normal damage guns, I can. If I want to make a fire build using Fl4k terror consume for 50% fire damage for pet, I can. If I want to make a cryo build for Zane I can.
I don’t get punished for any of this. THIS means more diversity then a random modifier telling me hey your build doesn’t work today!
Most people are used to re-rolling for positive modifiers and now that they can’t they find out their builds have no synergy and can’t do damage.
I’m killing everything plenty fast still and I made videos to prove it in the topic I made. I used something like 6 different builds in those videos not one of them a meta build. Some bosses take a bit longer then they used to and they should it’s the highest difficulty and they are supposed to be beefy bosses.
Hell with a new build I just made for Zane now I’m 1 hitting tons of stuff on M4.
I think it’s the players being boring and lazy rather then the developers.
As with every change that causes an outrage of ‘this sucks I can’t do anything with xxxx VH anymore’, just wait a week until the popular youtubers show everyone how to adapt and it will be all fine again.

i don’t mind the number of modifiers, but mayhem 4 is absolutely too bullet spongey. i’ve got a level 50 amara who melted anointed on mayhem 3. on mayhem 4 it’s impossible - and by the time i’ve made a dent the guys i killed 5 minutes ago have all respawned. boring: not fun at all.
update: anointed are all but unkillable in mayhem 4. where’s the fun in that?
also: mayhem 3 is now also boring. until either this gets fixed or the level cap gets raised i think i’ll take a break from BL3. i mean, rdr2 is out for PC …

I think the main issue is one of gratification and interest. If before it took me 5 minutes to kill Graveward and then I saw the shower of loot with maybe one or two legendaries that was almost instant gratification that fed on itself.
If it now takes fifteen minutes to take GW down, and I am not getting any more or any more special loot (rng and all), then I will get frustrated because that gratification I was expecting is simply not there. With literally thousands of entertainment options why would 8 go through Graveward again, when I can pick up another game or watch any of the on demand streaming options?
Everyone has different ways they enjoy the game, GBX needs a stable community playing the game because the $60 we pay for a game when new hasn’t increased in six seven years while their costs have. If they are not selling in volume, or dlc/services the games are not profitable. If the state of the game including Mayhem levels are a mess by the time dlc comes around it could be a disaster for GBX. If the majority of regular players are not happy with Mayhem 4 then they will change it.
Let’s not forget all the things that are broken with this patch also. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get another substantial patch prior to the dlc hitting. The hot fixes this Thursday should be substantial.

is it me or are trash mobs with double/tripple health broken?
normal enemies feel harder then bosses! just tried playing slaughterhouse and i couldn’t kill a single guy! my weapons tickled them…
i think i’m through my bullets after the first wave (stayed alive for 15 minuits but eventualy died because i couldn’t dent anything…)
bosses are fine… i killed most of them on M4 and that’s why i came to the conclusion that normal mobs with armor are just impossible to kill… shields no problem, armor just feels broken AF! (tested every corrosive weapon i have and non seem to do any damage)

Yeah I’ve noticed that heh. An armored badass zealot took a lot longer to bring down than the two anointeds I fought in the same run (including the infamous anointed militant aka Mr. Hi-There-I’m-Immune-99%-Of-The-Time.)
As a side note… I’m pretty pleased with Iron Bear’s power now (even though a couple of his buffs are reportedly not actually working). Hopped in Iron Bear, melted an anointed tink with a barrage of rockets in M4 (I always just use dual plain rockets, no augments.) I wasn’t really expecting that, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Anyway, I’m OK with M4. My biggest issue with the other mayhem modes were all the random modifiers, which I’ve never been a real fan of going all the way back to the Underdome in BL1. I mean, once in a while I like that style of adjusting on the fly to some nerf or weird play mechanic, but it’s not something I want to deal with every session I play for sure. I like the mayhem modes in BL3 for the tougher enemies and better rewards, but not the wonky modifiers. So yeah, I’m mostly OK with M4. As has been mentioned, multi-bar mobs seem unusually tough, but I guess we’ll see how things really are once guardian ranks are fixed and all those perks are factored back in overall.

I wonder: why ppl even bother killing Haunt in Mayhem 4? Is it faster? It’s not like Loot Ghosts don’t drop 2-3 BH legendaries already. On New Game not Mayhem whatever.
Thanks for the tips! I had been farming gigamind prior to starting The Outer Worlds and will have to get to BL3 soon, I miss it.
I also need to get more comfortable at Mayhem 2. It’s not that big of a leap from M1 but I can’t imagine how much more difficult the bosses will be in M3 and 4!!
I’ll also check to see if I’ve finished Clap and Zero’s quest, and/or, if I have those weapons. I don’t get rid of any legendaries even if they’re the early level versions.
Ohhhhh, and that trick I’ll be trying tonight, thanks again for that, I won’t tell anyone, hahahahaha!!!

But GBX had the wonderful idea to gate legendaries on M4. Even if I don’t want to play on M4, if a want these legendaries, I have to.
Or pay for these on those pages. What does GBX think about this? The game has no official microtransactions, but it really has.

You can get those legendaries from Maliwan Blacksite on any difficulty.
That run brings up loads of good anointed weapons…IMO.

Thanks. It’s really not exactly an original idea. This is just similar to mechanics that MMOs have used for years in raid encounters. There are probably a lot of ideas from MMO raid mechanics that GB could steal or modify to make way more interesting mayhem modifiers that also don’t diminish guns or builds. I happen to like the one I posted because I think it would work well in the context of B3 gameplay but I’m sure there are plenty of others if the right people were putting forth the effort.

If you’re referring to those big orbs that strafe in the beginning area of MT, those were some of the easier enemies for me to kill on Zane (running the standard cryo build). I’d pull out my shock Damned, with +50% cryo on SNTNL, and freeze them quick. Then they just drop to the ground like a big ice cube and I’d have my way with them.

Yea I was doing it on Fl4k at the time. I’ve since learned you can just skip those

I don’t know which VH you’re running, but Breath of the Dying with +50% cryo on SNTNL for Zane is my “go to” anti-armor weapon, and it just demolishes anything with armor given the double anti-armor elements. You could probably get the same results with a similar anointed + corrosive version of any decent AR, such as the Damned, Kaos, or even Star Helix. YMMV.

This is so bad and lame.
"We need a, more difficult mode than m3. Well just cramp up health of enemies! This is such a groundbreaking and original idea!”
Just shame on you gearbox.
And yeah gameplay wise it just sucks an is annoying. This is just no fun sinking countlees mags into enemies.
Worst part is this reduces build variety heavily. Because you now need to focus on damage output alone. Otherwise you will die of boredom

As a solo player mostly I find m4 a real bitch …
That being said it’s also a bitch for 4 player randoms …
I do feel it’s good n possibly easy as a 4.player premade group who communicate and focus down the same enemies as a team …
Hiding drops behind group content is wrong
But group content being harder should have perks for doing it … But drop rates increase so there is that … But how about creating group use anointments like we had in other Borderlands
So moze may have ammo regen for group,
Amara health regen
Zane sheild regen
Fl4k increased accuracy n weapon handling
Solo players don’t need those … So hide those anointments behind group play content
Add others too so we start to see better cross build synergy

I have been soloing TVHM on M4, and it feels a lot easier than the Maliwan Takedown does on NVHM M1. I have yet to beat MT on any Mayhem mode. I can get to the boss, then I get hammered.
M4 is like BL2 UVHM without the Slag mechanic.
A little bullet-spongy, I agree with. Corrosive shields, I think, are the worst. It’s like the Corrosive element has not been buffed enough to cope. But most other enemies, I have little trouble with.
The anointed; some of which seem to be tripping many people up, I deal with using a Q-System Assault Rifle (from Earl). Jump and Slide like a nutter while firing that thing off, seems to do the trick.
