I actually see the difference in loot between playing NVHM and TVHM in terms of quantity and rarity. TVHM has tougher enemies with increased loot and health if I’m not mistaken… That being said Mayhem mode is just Mayhem mode regardless your playthrough so it works just the same.
So I’d say if you want a more challenge/reward kind of experience go into TVHM, if loot it’s your top priority, then maybe NVHM is just okay, you’ll clear enemies and bosses easier and faster even without wearing the best gear. I personally enjoy more playing in TVHM M3 even though I struggle sometimes with Zane
Here is a screenshot of SS on normal MH3 I did yesterday. Quite a few of those legendaries were anointed, including a lyuda a butcher a godroll zane shield, a godroll techspurt mod amongst a bunch of other good stuff I can’t remember off the top of my head. None of those mentioned were terror anoint.
I honestly cannot find a single difference. I’ve played SS a lot in TVHM not as much in normal, but I noticed no difference in the number of anointed, badasses or anything else.

I didn’t actually determine that. I just believe so based on what I compared (like how NMM also uses elemental damage of TVHM, same enemy health as TMM, enemy attack damage etc). Could be wrong, maybe there are some other differences.

My read of it is, based on what you’ve seen and relayed and based on what I’ve experienced myself, that TVHM is basically “activate random anointed enemies and also activate scaling and element changes”. And that MM in normal basically runs TVHM first, then applies Mayhem.
I would assume any differences noticed otherwise (like loot) are a result of buggy application or confirmation bias (buggy application in the brain!)

Yeah, that’s basically my understanding: that there’s normal mode, then there’s TVHM mode, and then there’s Mayhem which is TVHM + modifiers. If this is true, the main point of TMM would be that you can play story/missions again how often you want in Mayhem.
Loot drop rates can hardly be tested as there’s so much random variation, but NMM spams me with legendaries like there’s no tomorrow already. Haven’t actually played TMM for a long time, just made a few tests for my number crunching.
OK Thanks everyone!
I will most likely finish up the sides in mayhem since if I start a new TVHM game they will all be gone, Also, since I just finished the storyline , figure I will “take a break and do the sides” now that with Mayhem the older side quests are leveled up to me.
IIRC, this is different from BL2, when you finished the side jobs were static at the level they were at when you unlocked them? I think that is the way is was, which makes MM a cool upgrade.
But I guess I will try is at MM3 since it was a pretty cool hologram when I entered the rune-key
