Meaning of exclamation point on maps you (nearly) completed on fast travel

The exclamation point markers are extremely buggy in general. There have been tons of time where I look at a map, see 2-3 exclamation points, then fast travel there and they are all gone.

On top of that, I’ve had multiple instances of exclamation points for missions appearing in a random place on the wrong map. This just happened to me in my last play-through with the exclamation point for the mission “Ratch’d Up” appearing in a random spot on the Meridian Metroplex, despite the quest giver for this mission actually being in Atlas HQ. Sure enough when I loaded into the zone and ran to that spot on the map, the icon was gone.

The missions markers is other story. It’s on every map when the mission giver was before like CL4P-TP in The Droughts. After leaving Pandora he is all the time on the Sanctuary board, but you can see the mission mark on Pandora.
The same is with Ratch’d up mission. Rhys was in Meridian Metroplex map and you can see the mark there, but mission giver is on Atlas HQ (Atlas soldier or Rhys himself).
The game was and still is very buggy. And the fact you can’t check what missions are still available doesn’t help.

I always thought that exclamation marks on the travel menu are there to tell me that “there is still stuff to do here”: quests, Hammerlock hunts, Zero hit targets, Typhon’s obelisks, dead Claptraps, radio towers to be sabotaged etc.

But I never checked to make sure it’s true.

It’s a visual bug. I have them too and I have completed every quest in the game.

I’ve grown numb to exclamation marks in BL3.
It starts with the main menu, there is constantly an exclamation mark by “Mode:” when I switch characters, for example, yes I know some are NVHM and some are TVHM, it didn’t change folks.
Then the planet list. Yellow marks all the time. For some reasons I cannot easily discern.

Oh, then there is my personal favorite, every single time I open my Bank after loading in all the items have exclamation marks.

So so very hugely un-helpful.
