If any microtransactions are just cosmetics I’m a-ok with it. I mean BL2 kinda had those (matter of fact I ended up scarfing 'em all up when they all went on sale on Steam some time back.) Anything else, big solid nope.
Adding microtransactions into Borderlands 3 will only ruin its reputation only further. Alot of people already left due to boneheaded choices (including me, the nonsensical level cap instease did that), and having the plague that are MTs in an already fanbase-dividing game will only make matters worse.
Only reason I even have them is because The Handsome Collection includes them. If they weren’t it would’ve been quite a sore point for me personally since it stil borders on milking the cash out of a fanbase.
if it makes game better sure i would pay extra money
We really enjoyed the Head hunter packs and got a lot of time out of the small price they were in BL2. The holiday themes were fun to come back to each holiday to fit into our christmas/halloween/thanksgiving traditions. It came with a cosmetic reward when finished even if the head was the same for all Vh it was still nice there was a reward at the end. I would definitely buy these for BL3 even if they werent holiday themed but some very small DLC with a cosmetic. I am not a fan of the timed events I would much rather have the small paid DLC.
HOWEVER on top of this I’m not giving them any more money flow until they fix the game and have it polished before they start adding paid extras in there, the game is still rough and Im not spending money on something thats still broken 6 months after release.
Was he not kind of joking in that moment? He said no mtx and there won’t be any. I feel like cosmetics and dlc were always the borderland mtx, but not op gear and loot. I’m under the impression as long as we don’t see gear and loot behind mtx, everything is all good.
Yeah I don’t know about that. To me it sounds like, for now we good but we might need more money later.
Yeah I agree I don’t care if they charge for skins and stuff. That content takes a lot of effort to make and they have to pay the people making them.
I mean he starts smiling big and laughing as he says it, to me it seemed like he was joking. He uses the words ‘as promised’ right before which has strong meaning imo as well. And then the clip cuts off as he talks about how they supported bl2. Considering this game is most likely making more money than bl2 and doing very well from what he’s saying, I don’t think we can expect microtransactions at least in the form of loot boxes, etc.
Well sure he chuckles a bit but it seemed more like nervous laughter to me, a chuckle does not always indicate a joke. With the follow up about how they supported Bl2 for 7 years so who knows what the future holds. It sounds to me like he’s hinting there will be micro-transactions but at a much later date. Consider the fact that if it wasn’t a possibility there is no reason to make the statement in the first place and considering how sensitive people are about it, I can’t see the value in making a joke of it at all.
Regarding micro transactions randy pitchford in a video stated they didn’t know if they could keep affording the content they are implementing so far no transactions but possible in the future after speaking to a few people the opinions are they might implement an op system similar to bl2 to get a little cash out of us which kind of seems viable as they released the lvl cap no mention of a raise for the next dlc
Great point and i feel there is definitely something coming not as in your face as like loot boxes etc but maybe like bl2 the op system maybe?
Can someone define what exactly they mean by micro transactions, especially when they say they are vehemently against it? I’m getting the impression that lines are getting very blurred in this argument. For instance:
- Headhunter packs in BL2. MTX or not? Good, bad, evil?
- Cosmetics packs in BL2?
- OP levels were brought up as an example: these were part of UVHM DLC, IIRC, 4.99 or so?
- Special overpowered item and XP-boosting relic for the low price of 2.99$. This never happened in BL so far - is this the nightmare scenario folks here are afraid of?
In my mind all of these, except the last one, are more like mini DLCs (you are getting new game content, lots of it with OP levels), and cosmetics are just that, these do not have impact on gameplay. If I see value in any of new content, I would pay. Just like with anything in real life.
Buying a gun would give me pause, though. Feels like cheating.
Yah pretty much loot boxes are worst case scenario.
DLC, Content, Cosmetics are all fine with me imo. A company in today’s world is trying to make extra money. So if they provide actual value then I’m happy. Other people feel slightly different, but I think most people have a similarish stance.
What is the Golden Chest, if not a loot box? There’s one in EVERY Borderlands (1,2,TPS,3) game. In both Borderlands 1 GOTY & BL3 they WILL contain legendary gear. What is the difference if I use a gold key & get a legendary Transformer shield at level 15 or you pay $0.99 for one. Who frackin cares! I certainly don’t.
This is being made into some huge crisis/spectacle, honestly no one will make you buy them anyway. Pretty sure there are way more important things to worry about than if your buddy PyroPete buys a frickin legendary weapon!
They might’ve been a bit pricy, but they atleast offer content within the memory limits of gen7 consoles (though I only got 2 of those).
This is where it got a bit iffy for me. Each character got 3 skins and heads, and that would’ve added up if you wanted them all. However, it is nowhere near as bad as Battleborns 12 euro skins, and The Handsome Collection includes them anyway.
Both level cap increases were fine to me as well. The first one gave us pearlescents, the second even more content related to leveling up and whatnot. First one may have been a bit iffy on cost vs content, but atleast it didn’t force use to go into Ultimate unless you bought it.
This would be the worst case scenario in my oppinion, but I’d already draw the line with paid for skins since Battleborn abused that concept. And that game allowed you to buy in game currency too if I recall correctly. So yeah, it is honestly not impossible.
You have a point and it all depends how they go about it. Are drop rates gonna be stealth nerfed simultaneously? There’s a reason why all the loot box games don’t do super well. People don’t like pay to win games, and in this case, when it’s been promised that’s not what we will get.
Also, there wouldn’t be ‘loot boxes’ golden chest style. It would be more like some op legendaries that you have to basically buy. We can just mod any gun in the game, or join trading communities, adding lootboxes for existing loot just wouldn’t work.
Foreal the nerfs are a pain totally agree with that just to elaborate the flakker for example at one point on fl4k was insane for mobbing then got nerfed
Great point but I’m genuinely concerned at randys nervous laugh about possible things being implemented
I really think you’re reading too deep into it. I’m not gonna try to argue that it was a joking laugh or nervous laugh, but either of our speculation is just speculation. No need to be nervous or worried about it right now. They’ve promised no mtx, and personally I trust them on that point.
I get you and you are probably correct just randy isn’t someone i would trust
If this happened HOW would it affect YOU?
1: Binary Cutsman L53, any anoint any element for $1.99
2: 5 New Heads any VH - $4.99
3: New Jakobs Takedown - $6.99
4: 3 New Skins any VH - $2.99
5: Legenday Gear Pack $9.99 (claim at any level)
If all of these happened, it would not affect me AT ALL! There is no leaderboard, no standings, no nothing, it’s a freakin solo game that can be played co-op w/loot.
Psst, there’s websites that sell these items now for more than I listed (well not skins/heads).
PS If ANY MT bothers you, YOU. DON’T. HAVE. TO. BUY. IT.
