Microtransactions in Battleborn

Hey everyone,
A point that I don’t think has been clearly stated to the community that is well covered in this article is microtransactions.
http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/03/10/social-lifes-grim-reaper-has-a-name-incursion-mode-in-battleborn/196858/
This game will apparently never have any. Woot!

Edit: the article has removed all mentions of no microtransactions.

I’d also like to add that: damn this is some super positive press!

We did have a thread about Micotransactions, but it was closed at OP request.

So before anyone mentions such a thread exists, @jjand302 is correct in starting a new one.

Good. I hate micro-transactions. If I’m paying full price for a game, I want the full game, not a game where I have to pay money (in-game currency is fine) to unlock parts of it.

On a note of the article itself, it’s nice to see some positive coverage of Battleborn. Seems like the game is gaining more and more traction every day. That being said, it’s great to know that the game won’t be plagued by microtransactions.

I would like a direct quote from Gearbox and not some magazine and that it includes all payments outside DLC/Skins and that DLC does not contain pay to advance options. I am being pedantic but this did not come from Gearbox, it came from a journalist who did not include references to his sources. I like to be thorough.

Same here the is only one direct interview where they NOT say anything clear about microtransactions and if new characters or maps will cost money.
The part about characters, maps and items is in my opinion much more important then if it is bought with microtranactions or as dlc package.
Anything other than the ability to unlock all these things in game within a reasonable time will split the community and opens the door for “pay to win” criticism.

His reference was being at the press event last weekend. It wasn’t a report or rumor, but an actual news article.

If it was an actual news article then it would contain quote(s) from the source and not some vague message about asked, confirmed, asked again blah blah. Until we have a direct complete contextual quote(s) from the source then nothing is really confirmed. I am so sick and tired of the vagueness of the information being presented and the indirect way information makes its way to the customers who are the fans. So many fans give the benefit of the doubt but in the end they end up getting burned. Gearbox already have a platform they can speak directly from and that is by announcements from their website and if the choose only to provide information obscurely via journalists rather than speak directly to their fans then that sits very uneasy with me and feels like they have something to hide in this matter.

So the difference being that they quote the exact words that gbx told them rather than paraphrase? I’m not sure you understand how the news works. I get that they have a direct news feed, but this is a completely valid and credible source. It’s not some blog discussing rumors or opinions and this isn’t there first time gbx has discussed microtransactions, albeit the first time I’ve seen it so clearly discussed.

No I don’t think you understand how quotes work. You need to supply the conversation in quotes and reference the person who said them. Anything else is hearsay. They need to substantiate the rumor with a direct quote. Professional journalists should know to do this. To me this appears to be an article written by a fanboy. Until I hear a direct quote it is gobbldyduke.

Please take this dispute to polite pms now. Thanks.

Even if DontPanic tells it a little rude he is right, in that form gearbox can always say that article was not from us and all is fine.

I don’t think we should expect to be in a position to dictate gbx’s marketing strategy. We can politely request more info, of course, but slamming gearbox won’t get us anywhere.

I’m also very tired of having to ask people to stop discussing other forum users. Have some kittens, and go and read the forum rules. Anyone with a standing warning on this behavior is now getting some time out.

@JoeKGBX can you give us an answer on this? I really, really hope that magazine article is true in that there will not be any microtransactions. I don’t mind paying for cosmetic DLCs, but I don’t want to be required to pay (other than the asking price) to enjoy the game.

Your wish is my command:

Sorry, I ran out of kittens…they’re just so tasty!

I think that if the article was saying something totally wrong, Gearbox would have told us nearly immediately.
I don’t see why they should say “Yes that’s true.” to one article, because then they’d have to say it for every single thing.

From that point of view you can write whatever you want over whoever you want, as long as the don’t notice it and say no to it is has to be true.
The article is simply one of thousands over Battleborn and not even bigger company’s than gearbox can check if some blogger or game magazine writes ■■■■■■■■.
That’s why the rule stands, if its not official, its not true.

Except it was posted on a Gearbox forum, and they probably saw it the day it was posted here, or even before.
Also, why do you think the journalist would say bullcrap about this? Really?

jjand302 is just a user like You and I, that he/she posted it here gives it not more truth than anything else,
besides the only officials here are the community managers
(except the admins but they have not more insight over the game than we have)
and if one of them write here it will certainly sound like :
“At this point I have no information regarding the payment plans.”

But by that logic you can’t trust any news source, period. Why believe GameSpot was at that press tour? I agree with Benedict , ahem corrsk, that these forums are heavily watched by gbx. So much so that if you post something unofficially endorsed announcements in the news tab, it’s removed or moved (it’s happened to me already). The fact that this is still filed under the news tab alone shows gbx has given it the thumbs up. I do agree that gbx has been super vague, but I feel you have to take what news and announcements we have managed to get from them, even when it’s from sources who went to press tours and are repeating the info they received.
