[MOD] REARM V2 WIP thread

Stealth Bomber function test. Running a LAN game with myself on a single PC double screen setup.
(One is the Stealth Bomber, the other a normal Bomber. This captures the moment they pop up on sensors):

The Stealth Bomber’s sensor detection range is reduced to 50%. We’ll see how right that value is in further gameplay tests or MP sessions.

Now I’m going to find out, whether proximity sensors actually counter the sensor distortion. That would be a rather useful information to have. :slight_smile:

Whatever you wind up learning about sensor distortion is likely to be an asset to everyone in general! It doesn’t seem like a well-understood element of the game… it was never explained in enough detail in the manual or in any kind of thing.

OK the results are not what I thought, let me make a pic for you.

But the TLDR version is that “anti-cloaking” proximity sensors do unmask sensor distortion capable ships. Somewhat. At like 80% range compared to the normal ships…

EDIT: No, I f*cking get it. This will be informative. Hold on.

BTW that’s a new-ish icon for the spy corvette. A Corvette-like box modified into camera pictogram.

Hi @Pouk,

I didn’t understand your diagram.
About the distortion probe sensor:

  1. The effect of the Sensors distortion probe means the effect will take place ONLY in the sensors manager of the other player or will it afffect other stats not related with the sensors managers (like, IDK, weapon accuracy)?
  2. Does the range is 4K?;
  3. The effect is a multiplier effect, meaning the ships within range will be downgraded on something. What are the capabilities that will be downgraded? Depending on how item 1 is answered, it can answer this already;
  4. Does the advanced sensors array adds range over the sensors distortion probe?
  5. Is Anti-cloaking a counter-measure against the sensors distortion probe too?

I’m adding more:
6 - in the first image, it means all ship files have a sensor distortion stat that helps them in the map, when there is a sensor distortion probe in place?
7 - I didn’t understand what you mean with “distortion ship” in the ADV sensor array screenshot

OK. Well the Sensor Distortion Probe has this inside it:

AddShipMultiplier(NewShipType,“SensorDistortion”,“OwnShipsWithinRadius”,“Linear”,0.6,0.6,6000);

Which means that friendly strikecraft ships (not Frigates/Capitals) within the radius of 6km will show up at 60% range they would otherwise do.

So:

  1. the whole point is to reduce the range of sensor detection. There are no other Command Corvette-like mulitpliers, nothing to do with weapons.
  2. The 4K range is only with the Anti-Cloaking Sensors. And they are so much worse at revealing the sensor distortion ships than advanced sensors are. Because if you build Advanced Sensor Array, you double your detection range (for both normal and sensor distorted ships). With these it’s all about the visual range value (you know, visual range, primary sensor range, secondary sensor range, these). Anti-Cloaking Sensors on the Carrier will increase the visual range four times from the standard 1K to 4K. The Proximity Probe has the visual range on 9K, as well as both primary and secondary sensor ranges.
  3. …Its range at which it will pop up on the enemy sensors is decreased.
  4. Advanced Sensors Array is far better counter to the sensor distortion than the Anti-Cloaking Sensors are, as I stated in the picture.
  5. It only upgrades your Carrier’s detection range from like 3K to 4K, while the Advanced Array doubles it.
  6. I take it this is where all your confusion comes from. I stated that there is a standard fighter and a fighter with the sensor distortion ability set to 0.5 -the Stealth Bomber. Its ability is set to cover only the Stealth Bomber itself, not other ships.
    So on that picture, the closer fighter ‘is’ that sensor distortion probe, somewhat. It has the same ability, it just doesn’t have that 6K range to cover surrounding ships, it only masks itself alone.
  7. That’s what I meant by the distortion ship. See the whole context here was that I am working on my Stealth Bomber. The ship with the Sensor Distortion Probe ability, that only covers itself. Distortion ship is that Stealth Bomber from couple posts above. That was its whole point. It’s Stealth, not Cloaked.

So… playing with the Google Deep Dream. Because…

…science?

Somehow reminds me of the inside of Independence Day mothership.

EDIT: Dang, how can I forget!? Thank you so much for your invaluable insight into the actual Sensor Distortion story!

One more, utterly beyond pointless, but cool:

oh now that IS cool… that I could hang on my wall!

A neutral map object. A perimeter sensor post.

There are 4 pics, but they only show up when you click to view full size. Never mind.

You could call it a “listening post”, like a structure in a strategic level within a story.
Btw, not related to your model, I think there was a sketch/concept art of a ship or station called “listening post” …

How big will this be?

@Chimas you are thinking of this:

There are some game files for the listening post if I remember correctly…

It might be called that. I plan more versions of sensor things with different abilities, maybe anti-cloaking sensors or hyperspace sensors. I called it perimeter here, because I plan this to be one of the smaller ones around a bigger sensor station.

Anyone wants to texture it? :smiley: :smiley: (The ultimate Homeworld modding community running joke.)

By chance can we get a ship put next to it for sense of scale?

Now that’s what I like to see some new stations and new neutral objects in Homeworld RM. Good work @Pouk looks lovely.
