Montana Health Regen Tank Build Please?

Could someone help me out and write me up a list of augments (or mutations) and recommended non-Legendary gear for a support / health regen / sentry sniping / thrall killing Montana?

I have him at 14 so I have all his Mutations.

I think ive got it mostly figured out but I’d love to know what you guys think.

Looking for high accuracy, high health, health regen, I think freezing bullets and health regen on cool down (or are fire billets and health regen when heated better? That’s one of the main things im not sure about) and hopefully no weapon overheating.

Thanks very much in advance!

Here’s the build I use for PVP. For PVE, I swap out Bullet Buff for Icy Resolve to get the extra DR.

Gear wise go with attack speed, max health, health regen, and damage reduction. I would highly recommend his legendary because it has AS, max health, and helps with keeping his gun cool (you can’t fire forever, but you can fire longer). Remember that AS gear will increase your rate of heat accumulation, but The Cooler and Barrel Cooling will help offset that. Still, you should fire in bursts as much as possible unless you’re helping a teammate or fleeing from an enemy BB.

Just remember he’s a Defender. Your job is not to pursue enemy BB, it’s to drive them away, help your teammates kill those who are vulnerable, knock enemy BB off of your teammates, kill minions, and build stuff. Don’t expect to have a high kill count, but you should have a respectable assist count. At the start of the match, pick a spot behind the front line with convenient cover you can dash behind when things get too hot. When your team is ready to push, stay in the middle of them and protect your support and snipers. Monty is not a pusher and should never lead the charge unless you have a pocket healer like Miko or a good support like Alani and/or Reyna. If you have a melee or or an Oscar Mike, you should be right behind them shooting over their heads and keeping the enemy from focusing on them. Always be aware of your surroundings so you can dash to safety if need-be and stay away from both Shayne and Aurox and Ghalt because both of them can ruin your day with their fetches. If you’re attacked by a melee character, try to get their backs to a wall and dash them into it and then either finish them off or run depending on the situation (1v1 with most of your health, kill 'em. 2v1 or low health, run unless you have some backup).

Monty is a lot of fun to play in PVP, but you have to be careful because he’s such a big target and can be taken down quickly despite his high health pool if he gets focused.

Hmmm… Well how do you like to Monty as of right now? It might be easier for me to provide counter picks for you(especially since I am working/driving)

I will start by saying that I absolutely take the level 5 mutation over the 2 health regen options as I find health regen on high hp pools kinda bad. That 25 percent accuracy plus his legendary is just sooooooooooo great

I go in with fire bullets, taking damage for overheating, and health regen for higher heat. I can’t last forever, but the health regen almost entire negates the negative effects of the overheating and it means I can almost literally fire forever. Give me a Miko and I’m undefeatable.

Good question, thanks.

Currently im running zero cost shard generator / buuildable reduced cost / reduced cool down time

I have gotten REALLY good at killing Thralls.

Get all Thralls and an elite bot as often as possible.

Buy all turrets at outer sentry.

Support team mate pushers / clear minion waves.

Pick off weakened / straggling / overextended enemies.

Sneak attacks on sentry when it is safe to do so.

That about sums up the playstyle I’ve come to feel comfortable with as Montana.

EDIT: Also, thanks everyone else for the quick and very helpful replies.

Yeah Montana is great at killing thralls. I love being able to solo double thralls in about 10 seconds as it makes me feel invaluable to the team.

So I suppose I got some time to go into some Monty talk…

Level 1 it’s R I would really love the extra dash distance but it’s competing with an AMAZING ability for hailstorm.

Level 2 is a toss up but I really like the middle mutation. Allows you to dash into walls and hit people on the other side which is hilarious and fun.

Level 3 is L for more health

Level 4 is L cause hailstorm is d shiznit and really helps keep your dam at max potential and the slow is sooooooooooo good as opposed to dam over time

Level 5 is middle for me. That accuracy gives you a whole nother range to hit with and allows you to snipe with hailstorm on to an extant.

6 is L for shields

I am murky about the order but I take more hail storm duration(which means more slow AND more dam reduction) and more cool down on dash.

Level 9 is also a bit of a toss but making hailstorm have 55 percent dam reduction on top of your ult is also just incredible.

I like the damage nova on 10 but the reflect damage could also be really good.

I am trying out his legend a shard generator bliss beast skull plate(5.4 dam reduction, I think 4 health regen and another 5.4 dam reduction when taking dam from the front) but I might swap the dam reduction gear not sure how I like it
