Hold on let me look this up… Veil… Manipulator…

…Woah-ho-ho! Okay, that one I’m sold on. It might be tough to get it rolling on OM, tho. Even one Legendary can be really expensive in the last two ops. Thanks, I’ll start hunting for this one.

Back onto the topic, I have a simple request. (Insert Mafia mean looking photo here)

I want the names of the guys who put the Defilers into the Montana dlc.

I also ran it as Melka once.

Really, I only think I made it because it was Alani telling the story at that point…

I love it, dont nerf it! Yes its insane but that’s what keeps it fun. I still usuallly get 90-100 but with epic last stands, desperate revives, and epic skill saves. Dont nerf it!!!

The amount and variety of enemies in this DLC makes it very difficult for certain classes to complete.

You need overwhelming ranged firepower, backed up by survivability.

Guess how many characters have this?

Montana. To a lesser degree, Ghalt.

This is a 30 minute mission, at minimum, and yet somehow it gives the least amount of rewards and a very high rate of failure. The boss is a massive bullet sponge that has multiple forms of soft CCs, followed by invincibility phases, adds spawns where all of them can potentially one-shot, and nearly all the characters (besides the two I mentioned above) have issues dealing with some (if not all) aspects of the boss fight.

Everyone struggles with the one-shots, by the way, which only exacerbates the problem.

And don’t tell me to roll the Alani version, because that means I don’t get a chance at the legendary drop the Demon Bear drops. Her version forfeits additional loot.

This mission needs to give more exp throughout the level, more loot chests (which gives more lives), modify the enemy groups (Disruptor, Defiler, Bonecrusher, Beastmaster, Warlords, coupled with Brutes, Evolved Thralls and Varelsi Scavens and Alphas cannot be in the same group without expecting some sort of crapfest,) reduce the Demon Bear’s health overall so this level doesn’t feel like a hassle.

This is a high risk and next to no reward mission. I despise these, just like how I despise The Archive.

I played this thing 20 times as of writing, and I’m wondering how in the hell can I stomach another 18 runs to get the remaining skins without wanting to gouge my eyes out.

There is nothing exciting when you get one-shotted by 1790 damage. No one’s heart is racing with adrenaline, no feeling of desperation of how fun stuff is, and the instant you get revived you die instantly by the next 1900 damage.

Let this happen one too many times and you know you’re not going to be playing this ever again once you get your skins. Wasn’t the objective of these DLCs to get people to want to replay them? Like I said, the longest Operation so far to complete and there is so little to show for it.

This DLC could have been remarkable, but in the end it serves as another source of annoyance.

I learned how to do this mission at 100 OPs, but even with the knowledge and skill I possess I don’t find the experience any more enjoyable. Reversely, I’ve grown less adverse to DLC3’s challenges despite some of them are still annoying, they are ‘creative’ for the sake of being ‘creative’ without adding any entertainment whatsoever.

I don’t know who thought continuous one-shots are fun and enjoyable where everyone would want more and more of them. I strongly encourage something to be done about this DLC.

This DLC is packed with the most difficult enemies in one place (good for challenge progress farming of the rare enemies). Out of ~30 playthroughs I managed not to die only with Montana (several times), Galilea and some other character. Most of the time I still die once. (Mostly at the boss). But there are lots of times where that big Varelsi starts to throw spikes at you or some random Thrall grenade jumps into your face. Most of my deaths occur after the Library tho.

The funny thing is - it was my 2nd-3rd time when I managed to run out of lives not on Hardcore and solo. It was brutal with El Dragon, but then I changed the loadout with Blissbeast skull plate and the new ops damage reduction legendary with 0 cost shard generator - I just owned everything without a single scratch late in the mission.

But, the good thing about this DLC - it’s easy to get 100 OPS points. Every single time I get it.

Will I play this Op when I’ll get all the 85ops point skins? Nope. Too much random deaths makes this Operation a little bit over the top. Oscar Mike DLC is the best for farming the Commander loot packs.

If this is what we have to look forward to in the next Op then I’m going to wish I’d just set a $20 bill on fire rather than have bought the Season Pass…

Yes it is, 100 super easy
Skullplate? Ahhh, why didn’t I think of that!?? Haha

Gonna try that out myself

I’m curious,
Those who are not having much trouble with the higher ops.
Are most of your runs solo?

I’m far better at PvE than PvP and have done 100 ops on previous OPS many many times, but have encountered a lot of issues with this one.

Thralls seem to use more grenades than usual, the rate which we gain xp compared to the ops difficulty increase seems discimal and the adds with Demon Bear do way too much damage, not to mention they teleport constantly.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the difficulty, but it’s. little extreme imo.

Back to the start, are you playing solo most of the time?
My wife and I play together so I’m rarely in an ops by myself, and when I do them solo they are faaaaaaar more easier.

Just curious?

Yes solo most of the time but I do dual runs with some of the peeps here.
I’ve done each dlc at 100 OPs with every character on two accounts. Yeah, I’m crazy.

My tips on the Montana dlc:

  1. At the start other than the challenge there will be a Bullwark by the gate.
Rushing ahead and spawn him and take him out can help.
Or avoid going near the hill and triggering his spawn until after the challenge.

  2. The area after the gate should get the devs a good beating with wet noodles.
They designed it so you can’t snipe there.
Once the gate opens don’t stand there and fight.
Be aware that bombers and heavy thrall will drop over the walls next to and behind you.
There are bomb runners spawning everywhere on this section. Always be watching your mini map.
Besides any challenge once you activate the 4 spots for Nova three sets of heavys will spawn.
You can easily loose a life here so be ready for them, often it’s two Beast Masters and 2 boss Thrall.

  3. The island area is sick. The devs try hard to kill you here.
Before you jump to the first island look to your left and take out the two fliers.
When you jump to the first island things can get hairy, sometimes a Disruptor, which is probably going to kill you.
Fight if you can or run and get out of there, look for an OPs point on the next island, fight or run from there too.
The next island will have a crowd of enemies, sometimes impossible to pass unless you are Pendles.
There may be an additional 2 fliers, take them out because they throw a lot of bombs.
Run and fight this area, go back down hill if you need, fight and do your best.
On the next island there will be a very nasty Alpha Scaven. Take it out fast because it does a lot of damage.
If you left anything and ran they will come to this area and thru the portal, including the fliers.

  4. Thru the portal, this is thick with very nasty enemies.
Take out the Thrall first and any fast little scaven.
At the lower ledge a Defiler will spawn, get behind it and take it out fast, these things are evil.
I’ve also had 2 Disruptors spawn here, if that happens, just do your best, it’s not going to be pretty.

  5. The lower area with the cage is going to have very heavy armored enemies.
As you fight in this area use the jump-pad and go back up hill to recoop.
You will have another Defiler and two large bosses, maybe even another Disruptor. Poor melee characters.

  6. The Bear fight isn’t Gbox’s best work. You have to damage the bear three times and keep running.
When the Alphas spawn do your best to avoid the bubbles, anywhere, they will kill you.
Many characters can kill the Alphas fast, the problem is getting behind them because they teleport away.
Use the upper area and always keep distance from the Bear, those nova blasts do over 3k damage.
Those while decals on the ground can spawn under you so image a circle around the bear and stay out of it.
If you are a melee character like Attikus do a measure of damage then pounce away fast. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, basically the strategy I’m following more or less.
Grinding out till the boss is tricky but not too bad. Those scavens are terrible with their knock backs, especially in the later areas where there is a cliff every 5 feet.

I’m barely hitting level 7 by the time I get to Demon Bear though, and at 90+ OPS that’s hard to swallow.
Very few crates with extra lives as well.

With Demon Bear the biggest issue like you said is getting corned by the adds and the glowing spheres by the Alphas and downstairs, especially for melees.
If you spawn and drop back in, you immediately get wrecked.

Yup in the last area I’ve repawned into dual Disruptors who immediately went into their blue ground kill.

Story version has a HUGE effect on the difficulty you will encounter!

Montana’s first version, Story 1, and Boldur’s, Story 2, don’t even spawn Alphas. Alphas only start spawning with Story 3, S&A’s first version.

Alani’s version, Story 5, has the easiest “boss fight”, but you lose loot.

Nova’s version, Story 10, is by far the hardest. You get extra spawns in all areas, more Disruptors and Defilers, and more than double the adds during the Bear fight. Also I think Alphas summon Cubs in that version.

If you got extra Disruptors at the Defiler just before the Void Sap Tree near the spawn point, it was probably Nova’s Story, though it might start happening in S&A’s second version, the “Nothing to worry about, everything’s just a normal day” Story.

The point is, Story version can make it a breeze, with fewer and easier spawns, or a nightmare where you’re quickly and constantly overwhelmed, dealing with multiples of the hardest spawns in the game.

I have done it solo once I think, but ive done it 40 times now and most with a friend. Its hard but we’ve never lost. The game tries really hard to give you more lives once you are low.

The one time I lost was just because of an incredibly bad player. He died seven times, and wouldnt wait for revive. Ugh.

Finally got through 100 last night, Duo.
Montana retold story where everyone is questioning whether its true.

Was able to back pedal and stay on track around the bridges upstairs. Tedious, but effective. This seems to be the only viable option to stay alive that I’ve found.

Beatrix is extremely effective in this OPS, being that she can silence, snipe, and has an AoE attack.

Has anyone found a way to level higher before the fight?
Most I’ve gotten to is 8 probably 75% into Demon Bear.
I tend to open every box and smash canister I can find and I still can’t get past 7 before it.

I got to level 10 once.

after I killed the Demon Bear and was in the loot room.

I have completed this Op in it’s entirety, All skins and taunts, all titles and max roll Legendary gear, everything to 100% and I mean this honestly with all my heart, I rather get shot by a minigun at point blank range than to EVER do this Op ever again, the # of times my neighbors had to come to my door step just to let me know that If I keep yelling and raging in the middle of the night they’ll call the cops on me for disturbance of peace is by far the most I hope I’ll get for my entire life, I get that maybe GBX wanted to make a good and challenging op with a rich and fun narrative, By far it’s the best one on story and narrative but I’m never touching this op ever again, I almost broke my only controller because on this Op.

It’s like they decided to put all the strongest PvE adds in one Op, double the quantity, and then Alpha Bears that are all of that combined 100 fold with literally nothing to help you, barely any shards and turrets, no helix points, drones nor extra lives and no RNG luck to get any of these on normal chests, gameplay wise it’s the worst and I hope they get all this feedback and Heart of Ekkunar isn’t as bad as MvsDB, I even consider this mission to be as hard (or even harder) than 5-man Heliophage Advanced Hardcore, and It’s not even hardcore the one i’m talking about, but you know what pisses me off the most? 3/40 was the only time I got the Alani playthrough, every other playthrough was on either mostly on the last, the one before last, Shayne’s Spooky Playtrhough or Aurox’s Chill through which all of those are the hardest of the playthroughs.

And GBX cannot go and tell me they solo played this op with all characters and thought It’s good to ship out, I’m just glad I’m done with this op for good, NEVER AGAIN!!!

This is just on one of my accounts, does this make me certifiable?

I just tried this in a pub with some nicely-leveled folks (lowest level was somewhere in the mid 60s). Seemed like a fun time.

Then we opened the gate. We got ■■■■■■■ REKT with several capital Rs.

Oof, I feel for ya.

Has anyone done a team of 3 on Nova’s Story and won? Just curious if they’re out there.
