Montana, You Magnificent Bastard!

IP and BP are more based on what you’re facing. if you have a team of all or mostly ranged characters, IP is generally the better choice. It will be harder to get them in BP’s AoE for the explosion.

But if you’re dealing with an enemy MVP melee that is standing off your team, BP is the better choice, because it will punish them for daring to get close.

Thanks for all the excellent & informative answers!

It doesn’t. I never pick it because I like having the extra health instead. Anyway, you can always right click to spin up the minigun if you really need to, but it doesn’t take very long to spin up as it is.

Yes he is. Unfortunately he’s also the biggest target.

True, but I stick with chilly Monty for the cooling Hailstorm gives me at level 4. Couple that with barrel cooling and his legendary and I can generally keep firing during most mobs without overheating. In PVP I try to fire in bursts as much as possible unless I’m trying to gun someone or something (minion, thrall, turret) down.

I was saying what if it also increased attack speed

Yeah I agree, sometimes I get Big payback with mostly range enemies and well I feel dumb for my mistake when I do that

I remember trying to explain this to someone and they said that since he’s a big target he’s gonna get owned. Montana is beastly in the right hands and right comp and is a pain in the ass to deal with while fun as ■■■■ when you are on the tanking end.

I think one game I absorbed almost 100k damage for my team with him, only dying 3 times out of the 8 our team suffered. We, however, took out 56, all thanks to me just taking blows and my teams finishing off the attackers.

Nah. I’d still take the extra health and use gear for AS increases.

I take both accuracy buffers. I am not a huge fan of health regen on dudes like Montana but I also prefer him in incursion over meltdown. When I use hailstorm in conjunction with the built up heat I find that his accuracy is just insane. I usually keep him as a mid liner and harass smaller characters and make the lives of bigger characters absolute hell. I save my lumberjack dash(also take the level 2 mutation to add damage distance) to either lock down enemies at choke points, to stun people trying to chase my dying allies(which often means they have to run away at that point) or in self defense when somebody thinks they can just walk up to me and dish damage out. I also do my absolute best to avoid long range characters with cover

Do you have any suggestions for it

I am also finding it difficult to be satisfied with gear load outs for him. AD and AS don’t feel as good to stack on him as most other characters do for me

This guy gets it

Get his legendary. It’s one of the better character legendaries in the game IMO. From my understanding they fixed his bugged lore challenge, so it should be obtainable again :v:

Yeah, pick the extra health. :dukegoof:

Actually, if it increased attack damage, it might be worth it, but the extra health is too good to pass up.

I just wanna say, it’s been a real treat seeing how different people play Montana. I didn’t think anybody hardly played him, much less had opinions on him. You guys have convinced me to give firestorm Montana another go now that I’m more confident with him. I’ll probably post here and let you guys know how it goes!

I gots his legendary  it’s trying to figure out what else I want to take with me that is the challenge. My current setup is his legendary a shard generator and blissbeast skull plate. Before it was his legend a purple sword with 210 health and a syringe with a little dam reduction on it

Yeah I feel like you can run anything with him depending on how you play. I’ve tried damage reduction gear and I don’t really notice much of a difference. I actually run his legendary, 0 cost shard generator, and oath of the sustained with him cuz I feel like it’s utterly broken on anybody lol

I agree about the dam reduction. But man hitting level 9 and basically having a flat 65 percent dam reduction for 5 seconds is amazing. I really would like to know how much dam reduction mansformation does.

Oath seems ok but still not in love with it especially since I don’t take health regen at all

My build btw is:
R (but I have always wanted to try L)
M
L

R (though I have always wanted to try M. R is too good to pass imo)

If GBX does stats in Battleborn the same way they did BL, the damage reduction isn’t additive. And I would guess that after popping mansformation, the damage reduction you get from that will be applied BEFORE the damage reduction from items, giving that item’s stats further diminishing returns. I could be wrong though, as the stat calculation in BL is cryptic as f*ck

Ugh that doesn’t help me feel commuted about my choice of gear… Had wanted to try the Alamo too. Or maybe even the pacifier
