The thing to remember, is that gearbox has always stated that each rarity level is equivalent to +2 levels. So, a level 10 purple should be equally powerful as a level 12 blue and a level 14 green and a level 16 white. In previous games, this usually held up for oranges, too, meaning that a level 10 purple was as good as a level 8 legendary. (It’s not perfect, because the red text gimmick had a big effect on how powerful items were and how you used them, but generally, it worked.) That’s why they seem to hold their worth for so long - you can use a level 8 legendary up to level 14 and it’s still better than the whites and greens you find (and in previous games, those were what you were finding most of the time).
In B3, legendaries are too common, because of the over-reliance on anointments, meaning that you’ll often find new legendaries long before you outlevel the ones you have, when leveling up characters. This means, there’s rarely any need to use any other rarity.
The other problem B3 has, is that the legendary tier no longer holds to this idea of being 2 levels better than purples. The best purples are far better than the worst oranges, and the best oranges are maybe 10 levels better than other oranges. Consider the OPQ and the Carrier, or the NoPewPew and the Pain is Power. Or the Dictator and the Monarch.
B3 needs a higher loot tier, like previous games had, where the best oranges can be, so you know they’re a higher tier and the fact that they’re several levels more powerful makes sense. Or they need to be balanced in line with the rest of the oranges, so all the items in one loot tier feel equally powerful.

I think GBX knows exactly what they are doing. All the “big” streamer names work for them! When many of the big-name streamers of a “major AAA game” like BL3 literally are paid by GBX to play the game, what big public voices are left to criticize the game honestly?

This practice raises a lot of questions for me, namely:

  1. Why does a dev need to pay streamers to play its game? If it’s to get more people playing via spheres of influence, that seems shady to me. If it’s to control the narrative about the game, that seems even shadier.

  2. How much sway does GBX hold over what the streamers say about the game? It’s not my business what this relationship between two strangers (to me) is comprised of, but it does affect me to the extent of knowing how much credence to lend to the streamer’s comments about BL3.

  3. Why would a developer think that putting streamers, who are the people (streamers) who should be the most forthright critics of the developer’s work, on the developer’s payroll would result in a good outcome for the developer and/or NOT look shady?

Sorry I know this post was slightly OT, but this is a big pet peeve of mine. And something that I don’t see anyone talking about nearly enough for how significant of an issue I believe it to be.

Mmm, I just leveled up this character, so maybe

I’ll get a picture of my level 60 m10 later. But I’m almost certain it was at 40k base and 30k elemental.
M10 should also all be annoited gear.

Oh yeah, I’ve got some that are 42k.

Something was off on this one. Weird though.

The one you pictured does seem like pre hotfix Krakatoa. Why it hasn’t been fully implement idk. But coding is finicky at best so it might have some problems when gbx tries to implement full patches.

Interesting - I’d never heard this. How does this work when our levels don’t seem to scale linearly with enemy levels? Like this is probably pretty accurate for one’s first run through NVHM, but as everyone seems bent on playing exclusively at MM10, I’m not sure this is a reliable metric?

Some would say thats how its suppose to be as you go up mayhem levels weaker weapons sure do show just how worthless they are also there are way more guns that are pretty great in mayhem 10 if all you got is the OPQ I highly reccomend farming Killavolt for a monarch and genivi for a reflux those are extremely powerful and worth using also alot of the dlc guns are also pretty great in mayhem 10 as well like the lightshow or the lucky 7.

It’s only level through the action skills. But when these run out, your damage is cut down by about 60-70%

Not sure how it works with the mayhem scaling. In theory, a mayhem 6 orange should feel like a mayhem 8 purple, but I don’t think this works in practice, especially given how wild oranges are in terms of power.
The way weapons scale up with the mayhem levels messes up a lot of things in the game. Guessing this is just one of those things.

The OPQ is over-rated, well for my Amara anyway’s not seeing it’s “OP-ness”

I think i have a video that might prove you to be right here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4xW2VPtpt4 enjoy lol.

Of course most legendaries are useless. How do you fathom they would sell dlcs without putting the only good guns in the game in them? :joy:

Just check which dlc has the best guns currently. It is if course the latest one. The guns from previous dlcs were nerfed to hell or ‘balanced’ because those dlcs have run their course. If anything, each dlc has a gimmick item to make people buy them in case they haven’t already (e.g. seein dead com that is basically a whole class enabler). It’s all a cheap money grab. It’s diablo 3 all over again in case people haven’t noticed already.

@bleerice28 What does this prove me to be correct about?

I agree to some extent with you. I think joltz is the most honest. He states his opinions with no (evident) bias. Recently he spoke his mind about anoinments.
Maybe Moxsy follows close.
The rest seem to be acting as if all is ok with this game. I even got k6 to answer the game is in a great state right now!

@Tegridy_Arg Yeah, I do tend to agree about Joltz, I don’t watch his streams but I do occasionally watch his playthrough and other videos on YT, and he seems to speak his mind pretty openly.

I don’t so much question the streamers themselves as I do the motives of a developer that might believe that paying streamers would help them curry favor or control the narrative about the game. If I were a BL streamer, I absolutely would want to be affiliated with GBX, so I do not blame the streamers for that at all. I really just question the “why” of this from the publisher/developer’s perspective. Maybe this is an extremely common practice nowadays, but I don’t know because I don’t play a ton of other games. BL3 is the first game I have heard of that has paid streamers. Kind of ironic considering the story line of BL3 deals directly with streamer mentality and thought processes.

I feel that it is pretty clear that BL3 is in the best state that it has been since release. It should have been the way it is now, a year ago when BL3 first released. But just because the game is in the best state it has been since release, does not mean that there aren’t still some things that still could be improved. I am just disappointed that the last year has been a beta test to get the game to where it pretty much should have been to start.

The number of players who play now on stats boards show you hit it right on the money. I am one of the statistics who dropped this game after M2.0. Everything going backwards right when people are stuck at home bored from quarantine, and most didn’t even want to load up BL3 from the state that it was in. Along side it, we had vague communication on everything and people just felt burned.

BL3 is very low on active players now. It hovers around 10k players on Steam charts these days, back before M2.0 it was almost at 100k consistently,… so in roughly 5-6 months they lost 90% of players.

Exactly my thoughts. The thing is I got tired of this game and moved on to other stuff in my library. Gonna come back to see dlc 4 and then shelf it permanently unless there are some major changes (like ditching or radically reworking anoinments).
Thanks for your insights

Thats what i fear because they listen to streamers more then us so if alot of them say the game is in such a great state then we wont get the changes the game needs going foward i would agree with them if alot the guns did good damage better drop rates we need a change to modifiers load times on console. but as of right now the game is not in a great state as they claim

I don’t mean to sound despondent, but do we really care what state the game is in right now?

I guess I should care, but I’ll just keep grinding fir the heck of it. GBX will never get the guns up to where they were, so I’ve stopped worrying too much about it.

It’s a weird relationship that GBX has with the streamers. Just weird.
