I loved Gaige but I just couldn’t see Moze through that spectrum, though now I have a way to think about her when I start one soon.

I love my moze and my bear with the dub nukes! Plus whenever I need money I switch to my metric butt ton of cash grenade and make it rain in boss fights…say it with me Samuel L Jackson “UNLIMITED!!!”. Strip the flesh salt the woundddd <3

Without Gaige, BL2 and this series would have been one of those one of purchases I enjoyed but never followed up on. Gaige reinvented how gaming at all felt to me. That’s a lot to put on a single character, sure. But between mechanics and personality, I felt home in her boots.

I noticed this as well recently.

This is just a guess but I think the fact that Moze doesn’t have those definitive superpower class mods, similar to the other classes, leaves room for us to discuss all other ways to make her work well.

I noticed that the Zane forum was a lot more crowded before the Seein’ Dead com was released as well.

Same for Amara at release with a lot of discussion that dropped off after her “Uber gears” dropped.

I love the fact that us Moze mains are constantly innovating to squeeze the last drop of power and efficiency out of her.

I think it’s a mixture of that plus the fact that because there’s the option of those class mods, there’s less incentive and reason in general to further flesh out those characters and explore any hidden nuances they may possess. But there are also rare cases where certain features of characters have had no help whatsoever in the wake of recent updates and changes.

For example, I loved playing Amara as a brawler but her melee side has been disproportionately weaker since Mayhem 4 released and the irony was that even though the Spiritual Driver was broken and buffed more damage types than just gun damage, it actually allowed her melee damage potential to keep up with her guns, not including whatever numbers pop up on the screen with a Face Puncher + White Elephant + crit-swapping Unforgiven combo.

But apart from that accidental glitch, it’s now at a point where there have been no class mods or any new anointments to help out Amara’s melee angle since Mayhem 4 came out. While I still find it personally fun now and then to punch stuff in ways that would make Brick proud, it’s something you’re better off doing below Mayhem 4. Face Puncher builds don’t replicate the same feeling for me either.

Amen to that! I myself am currently working on three different builds and accumulating gear for them. Two of them are different variations of BM/DW allegiance builds. The third you could describe as something I’m ‘innovating’ to a certain degree but for reasons very different from ‘squeezing the last drop of power and efficiency out of her’ than you’d expect. :laughing:

Honestly, Driver Punching was the coolest mechanic in the game for the three days it existed. Running in firing an smg then flying in for a punch was the most real thing ever. They should have made it gun and melee.

Ooooh I am super intrigued. I love a good innovation. That’s what I enjoyed about Zane pre-SD. I had made a really goofy Infiltrator mod setup for bosses where I used a Messy Breakup and made just a bunch of pets from tediore guns, drone, clone, and messy Breakup.

I miss the times when Amara’s fists were strong enough with the Spiritual Driver to kill bosses with literally a single punch :frowning:

The build I have in mind, I wont say what it is exactly just yet, but I’d say is more on the masochistic side than it is powerful so you might either love it or be disappointed, just letting you know that now :laughing: But I am working hard on it to make it viable for Mayhem 4 and it means doing a LOT of research and testing with a whole host of different guns so it could be a while yet.

In a totally separate idea I had a few days ago, I did amuse myself with the theory of running a build with a level 1 Frozen Heart + Bloodletter combo with passive static health regen per second to enable Moze to engage more in close-quarter affairs. But you can apply that same theory to a lot of shields like the Re-Charge Berner or the Black Hole which would be cool seeing as that shield never features in anything, and Moxsy showed that by putting out a video yesterday which revolves around the same idea but with a lvl 1 Rerouter to amp all your shots.

Typing out about the Frozen Heart just now made me randomly think: would the cryo novas apply to those shot from the Shrieking Devil? EDIT: just tested this out, it sadly doesn’t work. Mine’s not anointed, but I don’t think that would stop the SD from sending you into FFYL so much.

My current Slam Amara runs a Black Hole. If I could purposely break it pre slam, that would be awesome, but for now I just constantly let it break and recharge.

I’m not sure the burner would be fun that way cause the damage wouldn’t be that great? What’s the nova on a level 1 berner? Because if it’s not more than 1000, you’re better off with an Ember’s Blaze because it’ll do so much more.

I’m curious about the pet situation you mentioned, but understand if you’re trying to keep it under wraps.

Re: Masochistic Builds… Bust-A-Bear Workshop came out of A bunch accidental discoveries in builds that were either jokes or just messing around. So,.you never know what’s on your hands until you’re there. That Moze started as an electrical burn, then I set her to be acid burn for the Moxxi DLC, then I tried out Bear nades, was searching for a FireStorm but got a Red Queen instead when I found out what happens with it’s crit mechanics :joy:

Gaige was my least played character in BL2, but I had the most fun with her when wearing the Black Hole combined with her Blood-Soaked Shields skill. I’m not usually one to go out of my way to get lvl 1 legendaries, but the idea of a lvl 1 Black Hole + Bloodletter build would be cool to fool around with if it’s capable of replicating the same level of fun.

I tested that just over half an hour ago but it doesn’t work. When I was doing the cistern of slaughter with Fl4k, I was using the Brainstormer and I noticed that even though I wasn’t intentionally shooting my pet, a couple of random bolts of chain lightning would latch onto my skag and then zap me, draining my shields and health. I was wondering if the same thing worked on Auto Bear while wearing a Transformer, but nothing happened.

Yeah, my masochistic build in question doesn’t possess anything like the level of crazy discoveries such as your Bear build lol. I wish it did and who knows, maybe there are one or two I might stumble across but I’m not counting on that happening.

On top of that, I’m also hunting for gear for allegiance builds. I’ve got a Torgue allegiance build revolving around Short Fuse in the works, but I’m also at a point where my yearning for variety is calling out and so I want to experiment with builds that don’t rely on splash damage or the Blast Master so much.

For that I’ve got a Vladof allegiance build coming up but you could apply the same principle behind that build with a few other manufacturers, and I also really want to make an allegiance build specifically for Hyperion shotguns (as they were my favourite weapons in BL2) which is still in its early stages of theorycrafting, but I might use a Mind Sweeper: +1 Redistribution and the fact that Hyperion guns have a hidden 5% multiplicative crit boost in the crit damage formula.

Yeah, Bear does weird self chaining with Capacitive Armature, but it doesn’t damage him or Moze as far as I know. Just uses them as a rod to bounce it.

Gaige was my favorite! I did a Black Hole BSS Shock damage setup for a while before I landed on Make Claws Work plan with the Hide of Terramorphus. If I could get a Black Hole with Roid Damage? That would have been IT though

I have some testing to do as i recently came accross a black hole with the ib nova anointment; if it works anything like it does on the frozen heart it should be fun; or suicidal im unsure

  • will report findings;
    Verdict - no fun at all. Other options for ideas?
