Need a new RPG to play on SNES

Going on guys! Been awhile…

Well, yesterday I finally beat Secret of Mana… Which only took me a year thanks to life and getting my NES RGB modded (WELL WORTH IT!). :acmbotman:

Definitely a great game, despite some combat system quirks and plot development lacking in the second half. Thinking of getting the English translation of Secret of Mana 2 later down the line.

Anyways, with that game over, does anyone have any RPGs that they’d recommend on the SNES? I’ve played Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy II + III, Secret of Mana, and Super Mario RPG so far and I’ve really enjoyed them. Square really took it to the next level on this system, so I hope there’s another master piece from them (and another final boss theme I can’t get out of my head…).

PS: If a mod happens to read this, any chance for someone to change my username to LARamsFan ?

Got you covered!

I can recommend the older “Tales of -” games, “Tales of Phantasia” is for SNES when I remember correctly.

Totally appreciate it Ganjamira!

Never heard of the Tales of games, I’m guessing they’re Super Famicom games? Thank gosh there are carts that have translations…

I remember seeing Lufia as a kid! Guess that was another one I overlooked… Any thoughts on Breath of Fire or Secret of Evermore? Been seeing mixed reviews on Evermore, but since it is a Square game I am a bit curious.

No problem!
“Tales of” is a huge series nowerdays, but half the titles I never heard of. Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Symphonia are great RPGs though, the rest I can´t really judge.

Heard “Bahamut Lagoon” is good, but never played it or saw it…

IIRC that wasn’t released outside of Japan, but I vaguely remember playing a version with fanmade translation. Although it’s more of a strategy game, more comparable to the Fire Emblem Series.

@LARamsFan: Terranigma and Illusion of Time might be worth a look, based on the games you already played.

Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrads was pretty good
Breath of fire 1 and 2 are very good
Does Ogre Battle count ?

Oh wow, new game for the SNES! That takes me back. Finished all the Zelda games?

Breath of Fire and Secret of Evermore are both great games. Robotrek is also a great game. Lagoon was a fun game, granted it didn’t have a save feature. Soul Blazer is another great one.

Totally forgot about Soul Blazer! Isn’t that a prequel to Illusion of Gaia/Time? Robotrek looks pretty interesting, kinda cool that you get to build your robot (at least that’s what wiki says).

Not sure if it’s a prequel.
Yeah you do get to build a robot, 3 actually. They all look the same, but you can change their color and you can outfit them with different equipment: boots, right hand, left hand, and back (bomb or backpack).

Think I’m gonna go with Secret of Evermore and Secret of Mana 2 as my next RPGs on the SNES. Looks like I can grab those for a decent price so why not.

Am trying out Crystalis for the NES while I wait for those and have been enjoying it so far.
