Kelvin has long been the character I’ve been most intimidated to use.

Tried a few times, literally felt completely lost and useless.

I think he gets an extra damage stack every time he bites a minion, Thrall or enemy?

His escape ball can stun but moves in a weird fashion?

How the hell does his R1 work? What are those Bite icons on the screen?

But, I’ve been seeing a LOT of people use him to devastating effectiveness!

Please, enlighten me to the ways of Kelvin!

As always, thanks in advance, kind forum users!

His Chomp will give you extra max HP if you kill an enemy with it. Some enemies can be killed in one hit (minions and primal Thrall), while others need to be worn down a little first. Some of the larger enemies give more max health.

The sublimate only uses one axis to move. You can look around to aim where you are going, but you can only move forwards or back, you can’t move side to side.

Kelvin’s a hard character to play because he’s big, slow, and is easily focused on, like Attikus. However, he has a large health pool that he can increase by chomping enemies to death. As for tips:

  1. Use max health/attack speed/attack damage gear. I use his legendary, a shard gen, and Vow of Zealous Fury.
  2. Sublimate can be used as both an initiator and an escape. In PVP, I’ll use it to stun and damage minion waves so my team has an easier time killing them. I’ll activate it behind a wall, “fly” through the wave, then go back behind the wall before it ends. I’ll also chomp one or two because doing so increases your max health and you keep that health until the match is over.
  3. Chomp minions! Seriously, chomp every minion you can because you’ll need that extra health. Once you get to level three or four, start chomping the Thralls after you’ve beaten them down to ~ 15% health. If you can’t kill them on your first chomp, leave and try again after it’s cooled down.
  4. Your Chomp isn’t just for killing. You can get a helix option where it will heal you based off of the damage you do and another one where you will do more damage the higher your health. It also has a very short cooldown time (~ 5 seconds I think?), so you can lead in with sublimate, chomp, bash some, chomp, then sub out if you need to.
  5. Your Icewall (ult) doesn’t just block enemies, it can also stun them if you place it underneath them. It works great on stopping minion waves right in their tracks as well as doing damage to the Sentry even if Reyna has her shield bubble over it. Learn how to use Kelvin’s Icewall and it can literally save your life.
  6. Don’t take the slow, keep the stun. I’ve pissed off quite a few enemy BB players by staying on them while sublimated and chomping them to death after they’re low enough. There’s nothing more terrifying than seeing that large mouth opened wide and bearing down on you when you have low health and no real means of escape.
  7. Kelvin’s ground pound is an AoE attack that can push most enemies away except for larger ones like Thralls and the Sentry. Use that to your advantage if you’re surrounded or to knock an enemy back towards your teammates. The area isn’t very large, so don’t expect to be able to go toe-to-toe with a ranged enemy unless you’re in melee range.
  8. Any type of hard CC will knock you out of Sublimate, so keep an eye out for Montanas, Ghalt’s traps, and the like. You can stun Rath out of his ult unless he silences you first, so remember to keep an eye on it so you’ll have it for when you really need it. Other CC, like Thorn’s Blight and OM’s grenades will still damage you, so try to avoid him if at all possible.

I hope this all helps because Kelvin is a fun character to play once you get used to him. I would suggest either doing some PVE or private PVP matches against bots until you’re used to how he works before trying him out in public PVP. I’m still working on his gear, so someone else may have some better suggestions.
