New Faction Idea ( BL Characters)

So I was thinking about what kind of character I would add and suddenly my imagination fired up! I hope to get some good feedback of these characters which I came up with off the top of my head.

Faction: Vault Hunters
Background: From a world called Pandora, once controlled by greedy corporations, when Pandora was destroyed, only a handful of the planets inhabitants were able to escape and find their way to Solus where they fit in nicely with the rest of the Battleborn, desperate for bodies to throw at the Varelsi. The Vault hunters are used to being bodies thrown at large groups of enemies and happily accept the challenge!

Lillith
On Pandora, Lillith was imbued with powers from an ancient alien race. These powers allow her to “Phase Walk”, where she can seemingly disappear and traverse the battlefield for a short time, releasing a wave of energy upon returning to this plain of existence. In her right hand, she carries her preferred weapon of choice, the SMG, being able to sneak behind her enemies and dump a lot of lead into their soon to be carcasses. Her off-hand she keeps free for focusing on her other abilities, mainly telekinesis, allowing limited control over her enemies, rendering them helpless while her friends capitalize the enemies sudden helplessness.

Mordecai
Known as Pandora’s premier sniper, Mordecai quickly builds a rivalry with the LLC’s bronze destroyer, Marquis. Noting that Marquis also has apparently been built with a bird, one of Mordecai’s prize gimicks, he feels it’s almost as if the person who created Marquis was copying him in some way, but that would be crazy! Mordecai uses his bird to mark enemies, protect areas, and generally crap on the enemy… literally! With his preferred weapon, the Sniper Rifle, Mordecai is great at covering his teammates’ backs.

Zer0
The group’s assassin, Zer0 employs holographic technology along with light bending technology to throw his enemies off his trail. Able to sneak into and out of combat, he makes a great striker. He wears his numbers on his face, so to speak. As he kills enemies on the battlefield, he builds up stacks which are counted on his face. The higher this number, the faster and stronger he gets.

Gaige
No one is better with creating robots out of salvage than Gaige. She, along with her trusty robot companion, can work together to great effect. If she gets too bogged down with enemies, her wonderful robot friend can trigger a self-destruct, which only saddens her for a second, realizing she gets to now rebuild him! He doesn’t care. he’s a robot…

Krieg
The resident Pscyho, Krieg is a terror on the battlefield! Wielding a buzz-saw axe, this is not a Battleborn you want to catch you in melee range! After enough damage has been dealt, he goes into a frenzy and increases speed and durability drastically for a short burst, just what is needed to gain that extra push. Favoring the sawed off shotgun, he is ready to enter the battlefield and create chaos!

So, I hope you all like my completely made up faction. I think it could fit very well. I was unable to fully flesh them out, but I think you all can see where I was going with this.

I think im the only one that want them to be seperated. But it would be okey if this would happen

I second the “keep them separate” notion. Although it would be cool if they did something like their famous Easter egg stuff, and made Borderlands skins for some of the characters.

  • Like a Gaige and Death-trap skin for Shayne & Aurox
  • Athena skin for Galilea
  • Ect…

This idea of somehow working in the vault hunters from the Borderland franchise is great but not new. I know Gearbox must have considered it at some point but I doubt they’d want to crossover their two IPs like that. I think the main reason for this is because Battleborn still has potential to flop. It won’t, but it still could, even from something as innocent as a major server crashing and wiping people’s data would be an enormous hit to BB’s player base. Why have 1 amazing franchise when you can have 2? Perhaps once BB begins to stand on it’s own legs GBX could throw in a vault symbol or two in a few of the DLC story missions but right now it’s just not a smart thing to do. I bet they want to do it too but if you weigh the pro and cons, it’s not wise. GBX wants to make other things besides Borderlands, and they absolutely want to make BL3. That, and I think they plan on bringing the remaining Vault Hunters back as story NPC’s like they did with BL2. This is the smartest way to do that right now.

That being said Zer0 is my br0 and if he was in Battleborn he’d instantly be my main, even if by some voodoo he was underpowered. And making a separate faction for them is unnecessary. Zer0, Krieg, Gaige, Salvador, Mordecai and Brick belong in the Rogues. Axton belongs with the Peacekeepers and Maya and Lilith would fit right in with the Eldrid. Done.

This idea, which I know others have brought up before, would be done as DLC. There is no reason we can’t assume for the sake of argument that Pandora exists in this universe. Maybe an alternate Pandora, alternate universe kind of thing so it’s not cannon to Borderlands, but there none-the-less. There could even be Pandora Specific DLC which includes a mission to be played by these characters only, the escape from Pandora!

In either case, the character builds would be easily adaptable, the models would require a little work to get them into the same style, but shouldn’t be hard, and the idea that it could be brought in as a faction, it’s like Battleborn was DESIGNED for this!

Definitely not the first DLC, but it HAS to be in the pipeline! Mordecai v Marquis MUST happen!

The Devs (I think it was @Jythri, actually) said in an interview that Battleborn and Borderlands is not in the same universe, as they want it to be his own thing.

That’s not surprising, crossovers ether weaken the integrity of the fictional universe (just like spongebob in gotham city)
or limit the options for sequels if both universes have to fit logically together.

But they DON’T have to fit together logically! Infinite universes, infinite possibilities! The guys at Gearbox are amazing at writing up fun inventive stories. I am sure they could make it work if they wanted. The nature of this universe actually allows for any crossover, just saying this is the end of the universe, but not necessarily the SAME universe as the Bordelands games take place in, just very similar!

Also, Batman worked with Scooby Doo and company MANY times in the comics… As well as many other random characters from different non-DC IPs. It did nothing to weaken either IP.

That’s why marvel and dc have to count their universes with 3 digits, that’s a pretty weakened fabric of space for me.

But in this case it’s admittedly BS to allow the characters over to Battleborn. It works because it’s absurd in it’s own right. Hell, they could be working on something to escape the doomed galaxy with only one star left and they inadvertently pull in the Vault Hunters!

Personally that’s how I’d go about bringing in the Vault Hunters into Battleborn.

What if Tiny Tina were brought in? Would she be in the Rogues?

Sure possible is everything that is imaginable, I’m somehow a purist in that regards even with the cool Borderlands characters. Also I often thing those characters are often recycled to save money on design and modeling but I guess wouldn’t stop playing the game if they add them.

That would be a great way to throw the Lore and Story through the window, in my opinion.

Also, it’s not Borderlands 3: Players versus Players.

I think Gearbox at a very early point in Battleborn’s development said they’d like to make Battleborn it’s own IP. Borderlands character might show up as skins, or we may possibly see some random bandit as a cameo character down the line, but vault hunters? Eh probably not. And even as a way to test your creativity, you should try going beyond vault hunters. Why not try some NPCs and see how they fit into the narrative? Like Moxxi or Scoote-oh wait no, not Scooter. Janey Springs maybe.

Hm, I don’t know how to feel about having Zer0 AND Mordecai. Would rather have Brick or Salvador in there, to include a tank. Deande also plays a lot like Zer0, while Mordecai is very similar to Marquis but you could use his bird in a very different way. Rather than protect areas, having Bloodwing mark enemies or even harass them while they’re hiding behind cover, add in a pretty powerful shield ignoring effect for Mordecai’s rifle somewhere.

Aaah, Salvador could be awesome as a “bruiser” tank, able to take the pain and dish it out, but lacking cc. I could totally get behind him just dual wielding from the start, beginning with pistols, and having augments that are straight up “pick a gun”, for his left then for his right. As somebody that swears by the Rampage tree, I’d be completely behind him having a “double grenade throw” ability too.

If we were to see vault hunters as DLC characters, I’d want them to have nothing to do with the story. There shouldn’t even be a hint to them possibly being in this universe, explicitly only here for the gameplay side of it.

@Corrsk - The nature of Battleborn means you don’t have to throw the lore out the window to add characters from other IPs. It was designed to be open and allow for characters from EVERY planet! So I don’t get the gripe, honestly. No one is saying, “Make this Borderlands 3: PvP”, just suggesting that they incorporate characters from the IP which would fit very well into this game style.

@Great_Gumby - Battleborn can be it’s own IP and still allow crossover. Looking at Soul Calibur 2, adding Link in the Gamecube, Spawn in the Xbox, and Hiatchi in the PS2 version added to the game, not detract. It’s called fan service and it can be done in a tasteful way.

Also, to everyone out there, Battleborn doesn’t take itself seriously. How have you not all gotten this so far? Yeah, there is a story and great lore, but so much of it is absurd! This is why I love the game.

@Tirell - I agree, Zer0 and Mordecai have Battleborn Dopplegangers, but I think they can be made different enough. Maybe just keep Zer0 and make a sniper with a distract. Drop Mordecai for Salvador so you can have a turret placer in combat. That would be great!

Never said it couldn’t. But on the cusp of so many calling for BL3 instead of this, such fan service might get a miced reception.

I can see that. I don’t think it has to happen now. It could happen in conjunction with the Borderlands 3 announcement or even with the release. It can be used as promo for Borderlands 3. I expect this game to be alive and kicking that far down the road.
