New Incursion Map Monuments: No Lessons Learned from Overgrowth then?

I love and hate some things about the new maps.

Hate: Man, as many advantages as range already as, they saw fit to give the MORE. This stage has absolutely ridiculous sightlines, perches, nooks and crannies for any ranged character to just dominate.

Love: On the OTHER hand, there are a lot of spots for melee characters to fight in hallways, come from behind corners, etc.
More importantly, the size of the stage actually allows assassins to do their damn jobs and catch people alone, or in twos. I can actually play Phoebe on Incursion again!

This is moslty true are at least it is VERY hard to if team happens to have keelse or ambra or both. Setting up shop in the middle is very easy and almost safe.

Thing is tho that if that happens there is a way to flank the mid to get to any sup or ranged. Its just harder if the team has a Keelse or Ambra since they are going to be sitting in turrets/sunspots

Alright, my two cents on Monuments:

It WILL be a fantastic map. Right now, everyone’s just playing it…but eventually people are going to see the lines that WILL give melees and pretty much any team on the backfoot, a very solid chance. Monuments isn’t wide open as the OP claims. In fact, it’s a bit NARROWER than Incursion in the middle, and way more so than Echelon.

But, it is STACKED. The main road of the minions, is a sniper’s alley of course, making team fights there extremely dangerous. However, beneath that road, is an underground passage ANY team can use. It’s where the middle thrall team spawns, but even if they’re not there, it is a GREAT back door behind all those high ended sniper positions, which the snipers CAN’T see through. One perch is safe on each side of the map, but one perch is vulnerable. I can already see backdoor attempts being made through that underground tunnel, and being quite effective AT it, once people get away from the easy fights in the upper street.

The minion roadway, is NOT for melees in any form. I don’t care if you’re Shayne with her boomrang, Galilea with her ranged blasts or Deande with her fans. Go in there, to die only. But, that underground passage, is your evil doorway to counter-ganks and opening up the other team’s defenses. And it will force ranged characters to either face you in close on their side of the exit, or brave that tunnel alone.

I’m not liking it so far, it’s garbage for melee folk like myself, I try to just kill minions and I just get murdered by a OM, or anyone with a gun and good aim.

Exactly… I like how all the shane/phoebe/gal try to shoot me, a frigging marquis whom dominates range, from my hidey hole on top. Just go below, go behind and then kill all the minions UNDER me. Then run back. I can’t even do anything unless I jump down and I’ll be in your effective range of melee.

But still, this map is TOO sniper friendly. I’ve went 12-0 on a almost full ranged team (enemy marquis for some reason didn’t play counter sniper) and still dominated. Needless to say I was lvl 8 whereas everyone else was 5 or 6.

Pretty damn ridiculous. Also benedict can steal shards from everywhere now. It’s hilarious.

It was so confusing at first I had to go into private mode to scout it out on my own terms, but once I did that, and I familiarized myself with it, I actually enjoyed it a lot better. It’ll take some time to get used to but right now I like it and I hope people give it a chance

I really like the new map. Two levels, A bunch of different paths to choose from. It feels huge, so different than overgrowth.

It’s ridiculous, frustrating, and pitiful that no one is willing to play Monuments. I’ve been trying for the past 5 matches and it’s just Overgrowth, Overgrowth, Overgrowth. I’m just exiting lobbies at this point in the hopes that I won’t get locked into the match once they see it’s 4/5 but it’s not working so I’m forced to waste my time and sit there until the surrender option is available or until the team is inevitably steamrolled.

I’m sick of this obsession with Overgrowth but I’m more sick of the notion that anything new and challenging get’s written off so easily.

Personnaly, I do like the new map monument, so many way now to push quickly enemis back or backstab them;

That’s my problem, I hate the fact that I have to hide and be sneaky, I’m a friggen demon chick with a sword and shield why would I do coward tactics and hit people from behind.

Because the map is sniper friendly and bad for tanks.

It’s the common saying of ā€œI want to play this way so every other way is brokenā€.

The map is bad for a certain playstyle and instead encourages another type. Don’t like that one playstyle is worst now, try another playstyle. Don’t like that style then don’t play the map.

Not every map should ā€œfitā€ your style. There’s people in this thread saying they like the sneaking around. And you don’t. So it’s just you already. Unless there’s many more people saying the sneaking is bad then there’s something wrong.

I’ve finally gotten a chance to check out this map in person, and I stand by what I thought when I saw it on the stream: this is an FPS-MOBA map, while the other two incursion maps are MOBA maps played in first person.

Edit: and so far I think that’s a good thing.

Actually Monuments made great work of Overgrowth. You have multiple ways of engaging the sentry of yours and opponents (every character in the game can approach the sentry from multiple angles), you have perches that are unreachable for certain characters, you have certain lengths and positions for melee to engage without taking full fire, I mean the stage is really a momument (haha pun) of strategy that this game needed.

I’ll be honest, if you are losing to teams that are back dooring you by this point then you would lose to a team that wouldn’t. Communicate with your team or pay attention to your map and let your ranged players know. It’s not that hard to understand.

With every character in the game having a position to come at the sentry at multiple angles I don’t see the point of complaining about back dooring. The first sentry can be down instantly if the team isn’t working together, which incursion should be about not just camping at your sentry…
