So how do i go about uploading my mod to Moddb
do i upload a copy of my mods in file form or as a .hod?

You want a .big

ehehe :acmaffirmative:

the .Big file is not excepted by Moddb

Rar then with the .big file in it.

^ yup that. or zip it or w/e. But yeah, rar has better compression.

ah ok i was just about to try that XD

That ion turret, I’m presuming the four arms are ion cannons, can the cannons swivel independently or does the whole ship turn to face the one target and then fire all four ion beams?

Whole ship turns and fires…and its more of a frigate cus i forgot to change its movement to single burn and still have the tracking

Nice! Sounds awesome!

OMEGA FLEET
OmegaFleet Update 12

You have a good start with the textures there! Some parts of the map are misaligned but in any case the sphere in the center is certainly well-composed! In future texturing endeavors you will find it easier in general to map and draw on less-curvy surfaces. That’s not to discourage you from having curvy ships, but texturing something like your pulsar corvette that already has more straight edges might be an easy way to gain more XP as a texturer.

LEVEL UP!!!

yes i know what you mean with the texture for my latest ship (ion turret) so what i tryed is just expanding the UV to overlap its self a few times to try and reduce that misaligned…you should have seen it when i hadn’t done all that work to get the texture looking nice XD

Working on updating the models for the Fighter craft and resource collecters

My replacement Resource collector (Resource Probe) in its bland form

Kinda hop i can get like a laser effect on it because it would look a lot more awesome

So far I was the biggest fan of the corvette. You know it wasn’t a cylinder, double semi torus, or a sphere. Whether you see it or not, that simple boxy corvette was your most advanced model to this day. That plus maybe the red Ion beam frigate/destroyer/cruiser in the fourth picture. That should be the road you should explore.

Your corvette, model it, shape it. Shape the engine block, define the cockpit, add more detail to the weapon pod. It would be a decent model, it would be great if you saw that.

Pouk is right to suggest what he has - speaking from personal history mostly, you will learn more about ship making when you start from a cube than a sphere or a cylinder. Perhaps it makes the most sense this way: with a sphere or a cylinder, you already have a zillion faces to work with. Those faces are arranged very particularly and mathematically, and you’re only going to be able to manipulate them a little bit without ending up with a messy shape. A cube is much, much less restrictive, and instead of starting with a complex shape, you get to control the entire progression of the model’s complexity. There’s the texturing consideration too - a shape with hard edges and flat sides will ten times out of ten be simpler to properly map and doodle on.

That isn’t to say you should never work with cylinders - though spheres are generally discouraged; a great modeler once told me he never used spheres even for relatively spherical shapes that he needed, because he could accomplish the sphere look by extruding a cylinder and it gave him better control over the shape and the polygon count to boot. It should be noted that the best cylinder to start with is almost always the simplest - that is, one with only one height segment. You can always extrude or bevel from there.

Another thing you might try - pick some ship you like that’s already out there, and just try to make it. That’s a really good way to gain experience. Especially if you try to make the whole thing out of one shape with no sub-meshes except for moving parts. I used to do that sort of thing all the time, and in fact as I write this, I’m really somewhat tempted to attempt a good model of the Ori ship for the third time, lolol.

Anyway in spite of all this advice, you are owed your due; your extrusion techniques are definitely improving; the faceted round end is shaped very nicely! Really you’re progressing very well; the advice we’re giving is only meant to help you level-up faster and to guide you away from habits that might frustrate you later on, particularly when it comes time to texture.
