These enemies are functioning more or less how Gearbox intends enemies to function over all. It just so happens that in this DLC legendary drop rates seem to be higher then in any where else in the game, possible as a part of the whole love letter to fans idea.
In BL2 most human enemies have a chance to drop the gun they are holding. However it seems most of the time it is just that a chance. So with that in mind an enemy must spawn holding a legendary weapon then they need to drop said weapon. So it’s likely two stage RNG. So considering many New Pandora enemies seem spawn with at minimum purple loot this DLC is the best place to farm for world drop loot. Take in to account that a bunch of those Named mobs spawn with a specific type of weapon (Pistol, Sniper Rifle ECT) to farther narrows the probablythat this mob can world drop a held legendary. Most bandits around Pandora can spawn with multiple weapon types from whites to legendaries making the chance that they both spawn with a legendary and then drop it far less frequent.
Compared to BL1, the chance is abysmal, if there’s any. I don’t see farming better equipped mobs in the new DLC will give better loot, compared to farming the chests or named enemies/bosses since I never really saw a normal mob drop the same exact gun they use in BL2.
It is pretty low but I found that most New Pandora Mobs did drop purples more frequently then when I am just killing bandits.
BL1 definitely dose the whole “enemy drops there weapon” thing more often. But they also had a good handful of named mobs in BL1 that had guarentee drop for there held weapon. Examples being Bone Head, Sledge, Master McCloud.
It seems at least from my perspective that lots of the named mobs where designed apart from the weapons associated with them. So in the end they just had all these enemies spawn with a random assult rifle or a random SMG.
The fact is they are far more likely to spawn with a white gun and then after they spawn with said gun it’s not even a sure thing they will drop it.
Luckily Randy Pitchford did bring up the dropping guns mechanic at the reveal event. It was right after the Mouthpiece boss battle where they use his gun. Then some players like myself noted while watching the demo on Promethia that the bandits where not only using but dropping Maliwan weapons. The game even stated outloud the bandits where using Maliwan guns. This makes me hopeful that this mechanic has been polished for BL3.
I never see this but I guess that’s neat. I only ran through the DLC twice or thrice anyway.
In BL1 you can literally see the weapon they’re holding fall out of their hands to the ground as they die. As far as human enemies go, the game generates a set of gear they’re using upon spawning and they can drop that same gear upon them dying if the game decides to let them drop. Obviously this is a little different with critter enemies, they just drop some random stuff, which is how BL2 handles it for the most part.
It looks like with the new DLC they tried doing it the BL1 way with some enemies but it’s a little buggy: with Lt. Hoffman, he’ll drop what he’s using but it’s screwy: if he has a Hot Mama it will be fine, but if he drops a Droog it’ll be bugged. Angvar will drop his Infinity if he spawns with one but not anything else.
They do not in fact.
On the Gearbox dev blogs they explain why BL2 enemies do not drop what they’re holding, in contrast to BL1.

Salient quote;
In order to achieve combat balance we needed to make different item pools for the weapons enemies could shoot from the pools they dropped as loot. While it’s a bummer we lost this feature, I felt that the benefit of the control over drops and a way to make weapons “age out” as you level was well worth the tradeoff.

Binary Thunderball Fist --I freakin want one!
Awesome screen captures BTW.
sadly, haven’t been able to enjoy any drops worth spit from the BFF mission as they all pretty much sukt albeit the reward has me thinking Z3R0 with a hardcore Bore or somethin…
It took several deaths to take that shot xD
The Amigo Sincero is the best single-use sniper in the game now.
