New Skills for BL3's Vault Hunters: Your Ideas!

It was discussed multiple times that Gearbox is thinking about expanding on the 4 Vault Hunters of Borderlands 3 rather than creating all-new Vault Hunters. And so I thought, why don’t we help them with that?

So, if you have any ideas, post them here and try to use the following form:

Vault Hunter:
Skill Name:
Type:
Placement:
Function:

Here a quick example on how to use the form

Vault Hunter: Fl4k
Skill Name: Obedience Bomb
Type: Action Skill Augment
Placement: Master Skill Tree, Tier 4
Function: Issuing an attack command to your pet while “Gamma Burst” is active let’s it emit a radiation nova, damaging and irradiating all nearby enemies. Also, while “Gamma Burst” is active, your pet gets constant health regeneration of 3% of their max health per second.

And now I want your ideas!

Since I’m playing Amara the only thing to complete her will be.

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Phase ________ (insert name)
Type: Action Skill Augment
Placement: Fist of the Elements, Tier 4
Function: Enemies are no longer grasped and take direct damage based on the action skill element. Grasp immune damage is doubled.

At first this look terrible…however this will allow phaspgrasp to work with Samsara stacks since Phasgrasp by itself doesnt damage enemies. So you’re giving up crowd control for better health regen.

An action skill where you summon another character to play as instead of the base 4.
Like, they could have their own action skills and skill trees you could customize. Your regular character will go back to S3 and hang out there occasionally saying “hi” when you talk to them.

Sass and sarcasm aside, I’d be very frustrated if they gave us an additional skill trees/skills per character instead of giving us a new character entirely which we can love and which has their own personality, skills, lore, etc.

That said…

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Phaseburn/Phasetorch
Type: Action Skill
Placement: 4th Skill Tree Action Skill
Function: Amara wraps her body in Phase energy which scorches the ground on which she treads. While active, nearby enemies are damaged by an elemental aura which surrounds Amara and her bullets deal an additional 5% damage based on her action skill element. In addition, Amara regenerates 2% of her maximum health per second while active. If she is at maximum health this regeneration instead transfers to her shields or any nearby allies. Health has priority and shield regen from this skill is doubled.

Vault Hunter: FL4K
Skill Name: Focus Fire (trying to think of a name which has an “A” in it)
Type: Action Skill
Placement: 4th Skill Tree Action Skill
Function: FL4K has honed their focus to incredible levels. While this skill is active, FL4K gains the ability to pinpoint enemy vulnerabilities and weak spots. Enemies receive a target over their critical hit spots while FL4K also finds it easier to track those targets. They receive a small amount of aim-assist after hitting a enemy critical hit spot. For each successive hit made by FL4K on the target, the enemy takes additional damage from all sources of up to 0.1% per stack. Stacks have no limit and are lost upon deactivation of the skill. This skill recharges over time and can be activated and deactivated at will gaining charge while inactive. Limit of 20 seconds of charge. Charge of 0.2 seconds per second inactive. (might require some reworking)

Vault Hunter: Zane
Skill Name: Collide
Type: Action Skill
Placement: 4th Skill Tree Action Skill
Function: Zane has dealt with and utilized some deadly tech in his day. This miraculous piece of machinery is no exception. Zane tosses out a small glass sphere created by this machine. The glass shatters on contact and releases multiple elemental stars which hone in on enemies and explode into gravity novas sucking in nearby targets and damaging them while they are ensnared. Each nova created deals a random elemental damage type. Larger enemies are not ensnared, but take additional damage from the effect.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: SH1-31D
Type: Action Skill/ Iron Bear Weapon
Placement: 4th Skill Tree Action Skill
Function: An experimental piece of hardware meant to provide extra defense on the battlefield and draw enemy fire away from soft flesh and towards the hearty mechs of the Vladof war machine. This hard-light shield absorbs incoming fire while active and occasionally collects bullets which hit it and can even redirect them back towards the enemy with reduced momentum. The shield can also be used to deliver a devastating bash attack in melee. While active, Iron Bear’s movement speed is reduced, but enemies are more likely to target them.

If Fl4k were to get another skill tree, it would almost certainly come with a new pet. I don’t know what sort of Action Skill would be appropriate, but I could see three varieties of mini crystalisk for the pet.

Vault Hunter : Fl4k
Skill Name : Deep Connection
Type : Passive Skill (1 pointer)
Placement : Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function : When Fl4k gets a Second Wind or is revived, they get +25% weapon damage and + 35% critical hit damage for 15 seconds. Whenever Fl4k revives their pet, the pet instantly restores all it’s health and gets +30% damage for 15 seconds.

Vault Hunter : Fl4k
Skill Name : Thresher aka Terry the 2nd
Type : Pet
Placement : The base-pet of the 4th Skill Tree
Function : Terry is a Thresher that throws dirt at enemies. Issuing an attack command let’s Terry jump into the air, blinding the targeted enemy with his ■■■■ and making them unable to attack for 3 seconds. Terry grants Fl4k + 10% Accuracy.

Vault Hunter : Fl4k
Skill Name : Turf Thresher
Type : Pet Evolution
Placement : Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function : The Thresher evolves into a Turf Thresher that attacks enemies with it’s tentacles. Issuing an attack command let’s the Thresher dig it’s tentacles into the ground to attack the chosen enemy from underground. Grants Fl4k + 10% Accuracy and + 10% Handling.

Vault Hunter : Fl4k
Skill Name : Pyre Thresher
Type : Pet Evolution
Placement : Tier 4 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function : The Thresher evolves into a Pyre Thresher that hits enemies with it’s tentacles. Issuing an attack command let’s the Thresher go underground to then burst up on it’s target emitting a fire nova. This command has a long cooldown. The Pyre Thresher grants Fl4k + 10% Accuracy and + 5% Action Skill Cooldown Rate.

Skills for other characters will come with later posts.

The problem with threshers is that they don’t really work with all terrain.

True, although at least the normal movement should be possible by just letting the Thresher jump around instead of going through the ground. Otherwise we will see how the Spiderant Countess fares as it’s attack command shouldn’t work everywhere either.

Valut Hunter: Zane
Skill Name: Baby Was Born
Type: Kill Skill (1 point)
Placement: Tier 5 skill in Hitman tree
Function: Whenever Zane kills an enemy he gains buff for 8 sec. When Zane marks the target by pressing G while buff is active it cancels the buff and make SNTNL to fire a granade at the target.

note: skill consumes grenades

It’s Amara’s turn!

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Phasebloom
Type: Action Skill
Placement: Base-Action Skill of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Amara emits an aura that deals constant Action Skill elemental damage to enemies nearby. While Phasebloom is active Amara’s guns deal bonus action skill elemental damage. Bonus damage: 25%, Duration: 15 seconds, Cooldown: 60 seconds.

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Phase Rampage
Type: Action Skill
Placement: Tier 5 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Amara emits an aura that deals constant Action Skill elemental damage to enemies in melee-range. While “Phase Rampage” is active, Amara’s “Blitz” melee ability has no Cooldown and her melee attacks cause small Action Skill elemental explosions when hitting an Enemy. Melee-Explosion-Damage: 25% of damage dealt. Duration: 10 seconds, Cooldown: 75 seconds.

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Purity
Type: Action Skill Augment
Placement: Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: All enemies affected by Amara’s acting skill get purified for a few seconds. Purified enemies attack less often and if they inflict damage to Amara, they suffer the same damage, but as damage of Amara’s Action Skill Element. Purity duration: 8 seconds, Enemy Attack frequency: -50%, Damage Reflection: 100%, Action Skill Damage -20%.

Vault Hunter: Amara
Skill Name: Banish their Sins
Type: Passive Skill (5 points)
Placement: Tier 4 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Killing an Enemy reduces Amara’s Action Skill Cooldown by an amount relative to the remaining Cooldown time. This has a short Cooldown and doesn’t work while one of Amara’s Action Skills is active. At 5/5: Reduces Action Cooldown by 20% of the remaining Cooldown time. “Banish their Sins” Cooldown: 5 seconds.

Fist over matter does exactly that

Fist over Matter has a longer cooldown by 14 seconds. If you use that augment Helping Hands doesnt have a 100% uptime unless you spec into mystical assault.

How about a melee based skill tree for Zane with a Grapple hook AS for Zane that allows to zip to grappled enemies? Can keep using it until the duration ends.
Since he’s an operative, I’m thinking he should be a skilled martial artist so he’s “missing” this element for the time being.

That’s a really good idea. And with enough skills that freeze enemies, Zane’s melee attacks could really deal some big damage. But as Zane has his shield tree, he needs a skill that provides roid bonuses, even when his shield is active. Maybe as a game changer?

That can come in as a capstone from the melee tree I suggested. Man if they do use this idea…
imagine having the dome barrier and zipping around cryo-ing mobs.

You like it frosty? You like charming badasses? Zane has got you covered!

Vault Hunter: Zane
Skill Name: Handy Dandy
Type: Action Skill
Placement: Action Skill of the 4th tree
Function: Zane digistructs his newest Gadget, a shoulder-mounted cryo laser that can shoot cryo bolts with moderate cryo efficiency. Tipping or holding the respective Action Skill Button let’s you alternate between single-round fire and fully-automatic fire. Critical hits with your Laser have an increased slowing effect and higher cryo efficiency.
Laser fire rate: 6.0
Laser Damage: 3
Laser Critical Bonuses: +100% critical hit damage, +100% cryo efficiency
Duration: 15 seconds
Cooldown: 40 seconds

Vault Hunter: Zane
Skill Name: Charmsplosion
Type: Capstone
Placement: Capstone of the 4th tree
Function: Whenever Zane kills an enemy there is a chance that he drops a free grenade according to his equipped Grenade Mod. The fewer grenades he has in his stock, the higher the chance. If an enemy is killed by a grenade dropped from Zane or one of his active Action Skills, Zane has a chance to get a grenade refunded into his stock. If he has a full stock of grenades when this would happen, he becomes “Charming” instead, increasing his Gun Damage, Shield Recharge Delay and Shield Recharge Rate for a few seconds.
Chance of free Grenade on Kill: Up to 75% with 0 grenades in stock (minimum chance is 15%).
Grenade refund chance: 25%
Charming Bonuses: Gun Damage + 25%, Shield Recharge Rate +35%, Shield Recharge Delay -45%
Charming Duration: 15 seconds.

Keeping this thread alive for now. Here is a buttload of stuff for Moze:

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Frag-Cannon
Type: Weapon for Iron Bear
Placement: Base Weapon of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Equips Iron Bear with a shotgun-like cannon that shoots out a 9-pellet-spread of ricochetting bullets. Frag-Cannon has a Fire Rate of 1.0, a 3 shot magazine, a 3 seconds reload, and has damage (point-blank) on par of the rocket pod with slightly (20%) less fuel-drain.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Multi-FraGGer
Type: Augment for the Frag-Cannon
Placement: Tier 2 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Increases the Magazine Size of the Frag-Cannon and reduces it’s fuel-drain. Magazine Size + 2, fuel-drain - 20%

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Shell Grenade
Type: Augment for the Frag-Cannon
Placement: Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Whenever the Frag-Cannon gets reloaded, it launches it’s empty Magazine as a shrapnel grenade, dealing splash damage and knock back in a small radius.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: It’s a MONSTERKILL
Type: Augment for the Frag-Cannon
Placement: Tier 4 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: The projectiles of the Frag-Cannon now deal bonus splash damage whenever they hit an enemy, but Frag-Cannon drains more fuel. Additionally, any pellet from the Frag-Cannon that hits an enemy after ricochetting off a surface deals additional damage. Splash damage: 20% of damage dealt. Ricochet-bonus: 50%. Fuel-drain + 30%.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Bio Gun
Type: Weapon for Iron Bear
Placement: Tier 2 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: The Bio Gun fires off green goo projectiles that deal very low damage on direct impact, but stick to surfaces they hit, working like a proximity mine. If an enemy comes close enough to those Goo Mines, they explode, dealing medium damage (0.8 times the V35 damage) to the enemy. The Bio Gun has a Fire Rate of 8, a Magazine Size of 20, a reload time of 2 seconds and drains fuel at around 0.6 times the rate of the V35 Grenade Launcher

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Biomass Multiplication
Type: Augment for the Bio Gun
Placement: Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Increases the damage and explosion radius of the Goo Mines, as well as their detection radius. Goo Mine damage: + 20%. Detection radius: + 50%. Explosion radius: + 100%.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Anti-Shield-Blop
Type: Augment for the Bio Gun
Placement: Tier 4 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Hitting a shielded enemy directly with the Bio Gun causes their shield to collapse instantly. Doesn’t work on (sub) boss tier or stronger enemies.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Bio Ex Machina
Type: Augment for the Bio Gun
Placement: Tier 5 of the 4th skill tree
Function: Doubles the Fuel-drain of the Bio Gun, but massively increases it’s damage when directly hitting an enemy. Additionally, if an enemy dies after getting shot directly, they explode in a Goo Nova, damaging enemies nearby and leaving behind a Goo Mine. Direct hit damage: 1.5 times that of a Goo Mine. Goo Nova damage: 35% of damage dealt.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: The Struggles of War
Type: Kill Skill (5 points)
Placement: Tier 1 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Killing an Enemy grants Moze and Iron Bear various bonuses for weapons with different properties. Weapons with a Magazine size of 40+ get +20% gun damage, splash damage weapons gain +30% fire rate (at 5 points). Kill Skill duration: 8 seconds.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Battlecry
Type: Kill Skill (1 point)
Placement: Tier 3 of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Killing an Enemy grants Moze increased Shield Recharge Rate. Kills by Iron Bear restore a portion of of it’s Armor. Shield Recharge Rate: +30%. Armor restored: 3%. Kill Skill duration: 8 seconds.

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Adrenaline Rush
Type: Kill Skill (1 point)
Placement: Capstone of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Permanently increases Iron Bear’s armor. Killing an enemy grants Moze and Iron Bear a stack of “Adrenaline”. For each stack Moze gains a chance to ignore incoming damage. If Moze is inside Iron Bear she instead gets a chance to overcharge Iron Bear when it’s damaged, massively increasing Iron Bear’s damage output. Iron Bear can only be overcharged once per Action Skill activation. Kill Skill duration: 10 seconds.
Iron Bear Armor: + 20%
Max Adrenaline stacks: 10
Chance to ignore damage: 2% per stack
Chance to overcharge Iron Bear: 3% per stack
Overcharge: Iron Bear damage +100%
Overcharge duration: 10 seconds

I could think of one for an Iron Bear centered Capstone (think there’s room for a Iron Bear Dedicated tech tree):

Vault Hunter: Moze
Skill Name: Venerable Iron Bear
Type: Passive (1 pint)
Placement: Capstone of the 4th Skill Tree
Function: Iron bear gains a 15% chance to ignore damage from any source. Additionally falling below 35% Armor immediately restores the Iron bear back to full Armor and increases its max fuel as well as the damage it can do by 50%, lasting until it is either destroyed or runs out of fuel.

Next Rank:
Iron Bear Ignore Damage Chance: 15%
Restores Iron Bears Armor to 100%
Increases Max Fuel and Damage done by 50%
Venerable Iron Bear Threshold Effect Duration: once per action skill activation
