I don’t particularly agree with OW’s blatant gambling system either lol. But when you get duplicates in your loot boxes, they give you coins. Coins that you can save up to buy specific items. I’ve been playing casually for the last two weeks, and am level 35. In those 35 loot boxes (I haven’t bought any from the ps store either) I have around 750 coins. I’m saving up for a legendary skin, and they cost 1000 coins. It’s random af, but it does still give you in game currency to buy new skins. Battleborn does not.
“Does that principle matter to me” is what I think you mean here, because the principle of it very much matters to me and I’ll stand by my principles with conviction; regardless of whether anyone thinks it doesn’t really matter.
Also, in reference to a point @Misguided made about giving free premium currency to players in f2p titles to encourage buying more. That’s another exemplary thing ESO offered, as you were given 500 crowns when you created your account. I could have paid more and bought a mount for ~1000 crowns, but I chose to grind out the cost in game and buy one from a stable. As it stands, I would have zero issues putting down ~$50 for more content just because of the way they treat their f2p players.
Battleborn, being a full price AAA title, offered nothing. No little bit of platinum for their players (especially those of us who pre ordered with the season pass and supported this game since before it launched). No option to earn the platinum in game. Platinum cost is only slightly cheaper than in game currency for f2p games.
If you don’t have a problem with the mt’s personally, then that’s perfectly ok in my books. Some people have the money to spend, and why shouldn’t they spend their own money? My only concern is when people choose to defend GBX and 2K over these abhorrent decisions
