No Battleplan : 05/11/17

I don’t know where you got that impression because in every patch they’ve ever released it’s always been a combination of new content, bug fixes, and character balance (i.e., reworking kits). Additionally, in the comments @Jythri has made in the last month and in the previous battleplan they were pretty clear that character balancing was going to be a major part of this update. So how you’ve concluded that it’s solely about new content is unclear. But given that you do think that the update is about new content I understand how you’d make a logical leap that it’s hindering bug fixes.

So why does it have to be one or the other? Put the majority of your resources into the update, that’s fine, but completely give up on hotfixes and disregard current balance issues? I have a hard time believing they couldn’t be making adjustments in the interim while we wait for this update. Bola’s Target Finder can be nerfed in a hotfix. Borrowed Timer can be nerfed in a hotfix. They could even deactivate them altogether and it would make the game a lot more fun and balanced than it is now. As far as character fixes go, they can increase the cooldown of Fulminate or reduce the silence duration in a hotfix. I’m well aware that some of the changes can only be done via a full update but putting 100% of their resources into that and neglecting to implement short term solutions to ease the problems is not the right way to handle this if you want to keep people playing the game.

That’s just it, I HAVEN’T CONCLUDED THAT.

Allow me to explain. There are bugs that need to be fixed. About this, even GBX has been clear in Battleplans and otherwise. But, they’ve been clear that these needed bugfixes are going to come in a big patch that will also include the big content (whatever that will be). And, since that big content apparently isn’t ready for whatever reason, neither are the bugfixes that have been needed in some cases since before the last big update (Winter Update).

So I’m not at all saying that these are two separate things, but to my chagrin, they are apparently inseparable as components of the one big yet-to-be-released update.

I really do want to know if it’s still unclear, and in what way, that I can maybe find a better way to communicate my point. This happens often, and it’s very VERY frustrating.

My big TL;DR is, that I want the bugfixes, with or without the content, ASAP. If the content can be delivered quickly alongside the bugfixes (as seems to have been the idea previously, according to the above post by the big guy), then so be it. If the content is holding up delivery of the bugfixes, though, then the bugfixes need to be delivered separately from it and most immediately.

Because it’s all about the relationship between time and resources. First you must accept the following axiom: time spent doing anything is time spent NOT doing something else.

With that out of the way let me give you a contrived example. If a GBX dev is spending 20 minutes adjusting Bola’s Target Finder that means he/she is spending 20 minutes NOT fixing Boldur’s kit. Granted, it’s a contrived example, but not really, because if you read @Jythri’s reddit post it says that the Battleborn dev team is smaller than it used to be. So suddenly that 20 minutes that seems so easy to spend fixing Bola’s Target Finder becomes sooo much more valuable because there is a lot less of it now.

Clearly the argument that I’m making has nothing really to do with Bola’s Target Finder but instead has to do with the fact that in this context people are motivated to perceive something as easy to do vs hard and always neglect to evaluate the time and resource constraints that are always there. And once you’ve included them then the easy thing is suddenly not so easy anymore. So for GBX it’s not about nerfing Bola’s Target Finder or any other perceived low hanging fruit hot fixes, it’s about not having enough resources to address the perceived easy stuff because to do so reduces their ability to address the things that REALLY need attention.

Yassss, that is I. I’ll be on later today on PS4, and it seems a few more PC players are converting as well in the future because they are also tired of waiting in queue from what they tell me.

You are being crystal clear right now and I LOVE it!. But there is a reason why they’ve decided that they are inseparable and I’m confident that you are aware of it so I won’t waste your time nor mine explaining it again. But I’ll just say that I accept their reasoning for making them inseparable though I wish deep in my soul that they weren’t.

The interesting thing to note…is that this next major patch repeatedly has been said by the devs that it would NOT be a content patch, but rather a massive balance patch and nothingmore/nothingless.

It’s been awhile since this was the known upcoming event, but it was. I dunno what happened to it. I mean, is Beatrix OG still going to be Beatrix OG through the fall?

I think we’re on the same page, then. We have had it explained to us. We get why they’re doing it this way. We don’t have to agree with the reasoning, and we can see the result of the unanticipated delays in delivering the big update.

I want the gd dd mr fg bugs fixed. If I never get to see the content that’s so fing exciting, well, whatever. I won’t see it anyway, nor will I see any more of Solus and the Battleborn experience at all, if the bugs aren’t fixed REALLY fing soon.

Much love to you, @studdugie ! You’re okay for a white devil…

In other news. Copy-Paste from PC Gamer’s twitter:

  • Ubisoft delays Rainbow Six Siege season two content so it can focus on fixes and upgrades

Can you feel the difference between GBX’s approach to “bug fixing + content” and this. Just sayin’.

I think they should maybe keep away from what they are doing in the update, as that would probalbly lead to issues, but instead they should tell us what the fantasy goal of certain characters are, why they like this, How that fantasy works in game, and if said character is over/under-preforming said role.

This would generate discussion, and might get some community feedback to help with said performance issues.

I get it. It sucks. But, they’re still working on what I assume is the free to play shift.

I’ve been taking a break from Battleborn, and dabbling across genres, and Battleborn is just soooo much more polished than other free to play offerings, it’s ridiculous. I’m really really confident in the games success, doubly so having seen what other games are like.

I think I ran up on your pre made before. Nice to know guys were from PC though

I’ve played free to play mobas on mobile with better polish, more support, more frequent updates, more new content/characters, better matchmaking, better balance. I’m not sure what you mean by polished because that is not how I would describe BB at all. What free to play games are less polished than BB?

Hi,
I just came from some undisclosed time in the future. I know all you fine folks are unhappy right now, but do not fret! Since it would create a paradox, I can’t say much, but what I will say is that good things DO come to those who wait! (No, seriously!!)

Oh crap! The marketing ninjas from the future have just shown up! They’re significantly more ruthless and quick to act than present day marketing ninjas after what future @Jythri did…RIP, “the legendary lore master who said too much”!

Ok, gotta go!

I got your back, fam.

Haven’t read through others responses yet but I have to say, I’m not entirely surprised. The excuse however, doesn’t make sense. They are busy working on the next big update, but…they can’t form a Battleplan to inform us of said update?..like they have in the past? Doesn’t make sense in the slightest, not to me anyway. Either this update is far bigger than the winter update and there’s a plan to really pull the game off the ground, or this truly is the end.

After now reading the responses, fair enough. Although the tension in the community is at an all time high (tries desperately to ignore the bells that are ringing from Evolve)

You know what did more harm to Gearbox’s reputation with Australians than anything else? Silence. There is a giant topic on this boards (you know the one) dedicated to that silence. And do you remember when the many months of bitter criticism finally took a softer tone? When you brought us bad but honest news.

Communication wouldn’t have retained the Aus playerbase (we needed technical fixes, and we needed them on day one), but it might have softened the reputation hit, which among your Aus fans was pretty intense. And a lot of the frustration I’m seeing here reminds me of that Australian server topic, amplified across your remaining NA playerbase.

It’s your call, and you have the industry expertise, but I feel I ought to note the similarities.
