Non-scripting CTDs?

Is there a reliable way to decipher non-Lua scripting CTDs? For instance here is my log and I have no idea what caused the crash:

Sometimes it just happens with no good reason. Even the game is just started and on main menu. The message says ‘access violation’.

The problem ended up being trying to add a ship that didn’t exist to a map IIRC. But it took some work to figure out.

I wish the errors were more informative.
