There is a story mode, you don’t have to worry about that. You can play it solo or co-op as well. You should check out some of the videos already released on the Battleborn channel on YouTube if you already haven’t.
To be honest: Nothing, really…just had a horrible week and everytime I look on the forums pages I read pretty mean and often flat critiques. Most of these posts came from MOBA-gamers, thats why I lashed out a bit to hard… My brain is a cynical b*tch lately, already thought about flagging my own post for that
Being a pure PvE-player myself I often perceive the PvP-crowd as very elitary while childish group of people and many recent topics nailed that prejudice for me… Only evil stereotypes fed by strange things I saw here, guess I need a long meditation or a vacation -.-
Did you ever get the one you wanted during the stress test?
Also, as someone who had never played a PvP game before the CTT, that wasn’t what I was looking forward to in Battleborn. I found I enjoyed it a lot and was pretty good at it. I still only want to play PvP with it, though. No other PvP has ever held interest for me, personally (to be honest, I never cared about first-person anything, either, until I played Borderlands).
The husband has played everything MOBA under the sun (had a super intense LoL habit of 8-10 hours a day when we met), and he also prefers the Battleborn system, even though we’ve only seen meltdown. In short, for what we’ve seen of the PvP in the CTT, we feel that GBX has done really well in balancing for people that have never touched a MOBA and those that are intimately familiar with them, especially if you’re looking for the signature clever and witty GBX experience. If you’re looking for a well-made, interesting, full gaming experience that has added value of PvP, be like Fry…shut up and let them take your money, however they decide to (but I’m really glad they’re going for the super value packed set price point).
In addition to my last comment.
This game will lose to any dota style games and blizzards new FTP game.
If you mean Overwatch, its not free to play
@smartassx To ad to Derch’s comment: it’ll cost 60 on consoles, 40 on PC.
OT:
Why would you want this game free to play while:
It has a story mode, said to be a lenghty one, that cna be done solo and in co-op, for those who like PvE.
And a PvP portion who likes that part.
Because of this attitude:
I’m glad it’s not free to play because I don’t think this game would do well with that business model.
I just wanted to add my two cents to the conversation. Generally speaking, I prefer full priced games to F2P. You just have a better idea of what you’re getting. Some free to play games will end up taking a lot more from you in cash if you end up really enjoying it and wanting all or most of the content.
As for competition with other games, I guess I just trust GBX to provide something I’m going to enjoy. I’ve played all the borderlands and I paid full price for those. When you look at the time you spend in a game versus what it costs, you are usually getting your money’s worth. I also spend $12 to see a movie which entertains me for like two hours. Think about that. A game might be $50 or $60 and something like battleborn, let’s be honest, you’re going to be at that thing for more than 10 hours.
I have 1887 hours in BL 2 and 286 hours in TPS, so I say I’ve gotten my money’s worth from both games. I don’t know how many hours I have in BL 1 because I bought it pre-Steam, but I’m sure it’s over 1k.
I really don’t understand the attitude of if it’s not free, I’m not getting it. I get the impression that those who feel this way were never taught the value of money or that nothing is really free. While the people at GBX may be passionate about making games they want to play, they still have bills, families, and activities they need money to pay for. If they aren’t getting paid, they wouldn’t be making such great games. So, for me, providing them with some of my money for their finished product is a perfect trade off. They do the hard work of making and testing a game while all I have to do is enjoy it and provide feedback. How that isn’t worth the price of admission I don’t know.
The other reason I have no problems with paying full price is because if this game does well, they’ll be more likely to try new things in the future. While I love the BL series, I wouldn’t mind seeing what else the teams at GBX can put out. Battleborn is definitely something I’ve never seen from them before and I liked the small slice I was able to see. And if this game does well, maybe we’ll see a re-mastered BL 1 hint hint.
FYI, just in case anyone would like to know-- I just got an email that was specifically in regards to GreenManGaming.com running a 20% off sitewide-sale that affects Battleborn preorders. If you sign up for their mailing list (which you can afterwards unsub from), you can get 25% off instead of the 20%. Valid through Monday, but surely there will be other sales as well.
I don’t have much to add-- I’m more on the side of preferring non-F2P games, but I wanted to pass this information along as I’m also on the side of taking advantage of sales.
I am much more than fine as long as the game isn’t a paywalled game and is a one time purchase and the DLC is made AFTER the game’s launch and if the game is popular enough to warrant dlc.
On the point of Battleborn characters, do you by any chance accept ideas for Battleborn characters?
I’ve created about 30 of my own unique characters and I’ve posted them on reddit.
Here’s a link if you want to see for yourself. https://www.reddit.com/r/Battleborn/comments/4a9wd3/i_have_ideas_for_battleborn_characters_what_do/
Please bear in mind that these are only a rough draft of my characters and what they can do, but they definitely have some play styles you probably might have missed. The characters in Battleborn inspired me to make these 25 to further expand the number of possible play styles and character types that could find a place in the game. But be warned, some of them might be a little out there in terms of craziness and ridiculousness. Please enjoy.
You can always post them, and they can’t do anything about it. I guess if they feel like something could fit their universe well, and the proposing person (this time you) agrees to not file any copyright claims, they would gladly take whatever appears. Gearbox doesn’t seem like a company that is afraid to hop over its own shadow to achieve something great.
That said, without looking at your characters, make sure they fit the universe, aren’t product of some sort of complex, and have a logical link between gameplay and lore. The best characters are just enough weird to not look hideous.
Just a personal impression that I got over the years of looking at fictional characters.
Also there’s a thread that’s specifically about fanmade characters
That’s the thing, I’ve done the statistical aspects of the characters like their backgrounds, roles, faction alignments, helix trees, weapons, abilities and augmentation paths. I’m no good when it comes to the art of a character, but I can create a rough idea of the characters. Trust me there are a lot of characters who have crazy aspects so feel free to check out any of them, I’m not going to file any copyright claims, I don’t care if my ideas get used. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and what not.I’d be honored if Gearbox wanted to copy my stuff and decided to put it in a game. So I’ll post more of my stuff up, all of my Battleborn characters so Gearbox can take a look. All I can say is enjoy what you see. In fact I’ll post one right now. Other ones I will post in the fan creations section. I already have two there like a platypus driving a battle tank and a Varelsi who values protecting his allies and creating portals to allow for instantaneous retreats.
Name: Versent Dercril. Versent is a Peacekeeper who has served as a member of an anti-riot unit tasked with breaking up protestors and fighting gang wars on many of the worlds under Peacekeeper protection. When the number of worlds under the Peacekeeper control began to shrink thanks to the Varelsi, Versent followed his commanders to Solus and assisted them in setting up a stronghold in and around Solus. When Ghalt sent out the call for fighting to protect Solus, Versent disobeyed his commanders, defected from the Peacekeepers and signed up to fight to protect the last star.
Role: Defender
Weapons: Tactical Shield and Advanced Magnum. Use the left trigger to raise the tactical shield and the right trigger to fire the magnum.
Passive: Kinetic Amplifier: Damage mitigated by the shield is stored as energy to be used to power your abilities. Once it reaches max capacity, you have 5 seconds before the energy accumulated is lost.
Ability 1: Defensive Mode: Deploys the Tactical Shield to cover the user’s head and upper body, protecting the user from regular and critical damage by 40% from the front for 8 seconds. Kinetic Amplifier increases the damage reduction by an additional 10-20% depending on the amount of damage absorbed. Movement speed is reduced while Defensive Mode is active.
Ability 2: Shield Pulse: Discharges kinetic energy to knockback and damage enemies that are within melee range of the user for 154 damage. Kinetic Amplifier increases the number of pulses by 1-2 which fire off every 2 seconds after the first initial burst.
Ultimate: Kinetic Shockwave: Unleashes a kinetic shockwave in a cone in front of the user dealing 560 damage. Attackers in close range take more damage than those at the edge of the ability’s area of effect. Kinetic Amplifier increases the range of the shockwave by an additional 20-40% depending on the amount of damage absorbed.
Augmentation Paths: Kinetic Sponge or Powerhouse
Kinetic Sponge Level 1: When Defensive Mode expires, you get a reduction to the cooldown of your next ability except Defensive mode. +15% cooldown speed.
Level 2: Replaces magnum ammo with flat tipped bullets which have a 10% chance per bullet to slow down enemies. +2 seconds slowed.
Level 3: A portion of damage absorbed while Defensive Mode is active is reflected back at the attacker while still being absorbed by Kinetic Amplifier. +15% damage reflection.
Level 4: Increase the knockback distance of Shield Pulse. +40% knockback effect.
Level 5: Increase magnum reload speed. +25% reload speed.
Level 6: Teammates near you while Defensive Mode is active get a small amount of damage resistance for the duration of the ability and if they are close. +10% damage reduction to nearby teammates.
Level 7: Increase the amount of time before Kinetic Amplifier automatically dumps stored energy. +5 seconds to duration.
Level 8: Defensive Mode’s damage reductions now affect you when an enemy attacks from behind.
Level 9: Restores 234 shield energy for every pulse which occurs upon activation of Shield Pulse.
Level 10: Gain an overshield when you activate Kinetic Shockwave with energy equal to 50% of the damage inflicted upon all enemies caught in the shockwave’s blast for eight seconds.
Powerhouse Level 1: Increases movement speed by a certain amount while absorbing damage in Defensive mode. Up to 40% depending on level of kinetic energy absorption.
Level 2: Loads the magnum with explosive ammo, but reduces ammo capacity. -2 ammo capacity. +140 damage per shot to each affected enemy in the explosion.
Level 3: Gain a damage boost to your next attack or skill which lasts for 4 seconds after Defensive mode expires or you cancel it early. 25% damage boost.
Level 4: A Shield Pulse fires off when you activate Defensive mode and when it expires, in exchange Shield Pulse no longer benefits from Kinetic Amplifier.
Level 5: Kinetic Amplifier now absorbs a portion of damage even when your tactical shield isn’t active. +20% damage absorption.
Level 6: Kinetic Amplifier now draws additional power from your shields depending on how much damage has been absorbed when activating an ability. Up to 50% of shield energy.
Level 7: There is a chance that a random bullet in each magnum clip that your shields automatically start recharging. 15% per bullet fired.
Level 8: Shield Pulse is no longer an activated skill but automatically activates when your shield or an overshield breaks.
Level 9: Enemies near you when Shield Pulse fires off deal 5% less damage for 5 seconds. -5% damage dealt.
Level 10: Kinetic Shockwave now propels you forward in addition to releasing a shockwave.
You may want to post your ideas in this forum because this thread has pretty much run it’s course and I doubt anybody from GBX is keeping an eye on it.
Aye, Gulfwulf is right. It’s off topic, but deserving of a thread. Go make a thread!
I’ve created a forum for some characters I’ve posted, feel free to have a look if you want.
I created a topic for this, feel free to have a look. I’ve posted about ten of them if you want to take a look.
Why is gearbox expected to GIVE you a game like this? What makes you entitled to a free game?
People like you give me gray hairs, because every time a new game comes out, you just complain about the price. Is the team who made this game not deserving of your support? You don’t want to play it because they would like to be compensated for their hard work?
Or, do you see yourself above buying games at retail price? Its not worth your money to support hard working developers who care about their craft?
Every time I see a post like this I lose a brain cell.
THIS ALSO GOES FOR ANYONE WHO COMPLAINTS ABOUT OVERWATCH NOT BEING FREE.
TL;DR: Shut up and buy the game, or just go away. We don’t need whiney cheapskates in the fan base.

Talk about the game not others and avoid insults please.
